Fish-eye lenses are common in several computer vision applications, such as four-camera surround view driver assistance, where a very wide angle (e.g., 180 degrees) of view is available. Nevertheless, their applicability is usually limited by the lack of an accurate and easy-to-use calibration procedure. In this paper, we present a camera calibration method for fish-eye lenses and a panoramic image stitching framework for calibrated surround images. To achieve the calibration of fish-eye captured images, it only requires to observe a reference planar pattern (e.g., chessboard), followed by offline estimating extrinsic and intrinsic parameters and save the related parameters. Each fish-eye distorted image can then be efficiently online corrected. Then, each calibrated image is transformed to its top-down view (or bird's-eye view) via the perspective transformation based on the estimated homography matrix. As a result, these surround bird'seye view images can be stitched to generate the final panoramic image. It is expected that the proposed framework would be applicable to AVM (around view monitoring) system or ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) of vehicles in the future.

The performance of contention-based access mechanism mainly depends on the resource allocation. This paper presents a generalized resource allocation scheme to support access prioritization in a multichannel slotted ALOHA system. The proposed scheme has great usability as it can be implemented in any similar mechanism such as OFDMA, which is used in LTE and beyond. We simulate its access-success probability and access delay in a one-shot random access attempt. The result demonstrates that the scheme can be used to represent any resource allocation schemes, such as dedicated, shared, partially-shared, as well as arbitrary resource allocation.

This paper presents a vision-based fingertip writing digits detection and recognition system using a CMOS camera and FPGA implementation. It is a real-time signature detector, since the image process algorithms are all executed in Verilog code. The experimental results show that the system can successfully recognize fingertip-numeral-writing with a accuracy rate of 95.8%.

Global warming and the depletion of natural resources are two of the most difficult problems we have ever faced. To address this problem, people have begun paying more attention to carbon emission reduction and energy saving. For the residential electricity use, many studies have demonstrated that feedbacks, such as energy consumption of each appliance in the home, can help consumers reduce electricity consumption usage. In this article, we propose a novel framework for the disaggregation of energy consumption, which is looking forward to reaching reducing the number of smart meters installed and providing usage statistics as a feedback for consumers to decrease their energy cost. In our proposed framework, we have a chief meter which measures total energy consumption, and install smart meters at few key appliances. Based the energy consumption from these meters, we proposed a clustered regression models for energy disaggregation. More specifically, we first cluster appliances by the correlation between the using behavior of appliances, and select one of them as the key appliance in each cluster. By using the appliance with installed meter, we apply regression model to estimate the energy consumption for other appliances within each cluster. Our experimental results confirmed our proposed framework can achieve high accuracy for energy disaggregation while reducing the number of smart meters.

For wireless packet transmissions, preambles are essential to make packet synchronization function. Impulsive interference not only distorts datum, but also degrades link reliability. To deal with such distortions, a peak-to-average ratio (PAPR) detection is adopted to search impulsive positions and the convolution with the estimated time-domain response is used to recovery the distorted preambles. Simulations of a 2x2 MIMO-OFDM system with RF impairments in frequency-selective fading indicate that the SNR loss is about 2.5 dB sim;4.6 dB to ensure synchronization working at a signal-to-impulse ratio (SIR) of -10 dB. © 2012 IEEE.

There has been an enormous development in online social networks all over the world in current times. Represented by Twitter and Facebook, the wave of online social networking is bringing broad impact and changing people's lives increasingly. At the same time, the online social networks are experiencing a rapid development in china. In this paper, we analyze the user's behavior on the SINA Weibo, pointing out the impact of information dissemination in four key factors: the user's authority, the user's activity, the user's preferences and the user's social relations. By empirical methods, we give each factor the impact of user behavior through the likelihood. We find that the user's preferences and activity have greater impact on user behavior, while the authority of the user's social relations and values of the user's behavior also has some impact. On this basis, we present an idea with machine learning to predict the behavior of users, and use pattern classification methods to solve the prediction problem. At last, we further analyze the information dissemination mechanisms on the SINA Weibo and the dynamic analysis is given. To the best of our knowledge this work is the first quantitative study on user behavior analysis and the information dissemination on SINA Weibo. © 2012 IEEE.

The paper analyzed and model of a fault tolerant electromechanical controlled worm gear driven fuel shut off valve for aerospace application. The analysis is mainly on design a reduced order fractional controller. This is for controlling the velocity of worm gear so that the friction torque due to uneven rotational speed can be avoided. Because with the friction and stiction and backlash the valve system performance is reduced and more and more unstable this leads the system to failure. The proposed controller can provide robustness against the uncertain loading torque and system parameter. © 2011 IEEE.

IEEE 802.16e standard for mobile Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), defines the implementation of hard handover. The standard covers the physical and MAC layer. To apply the layer 3 (L3) handover protocol over the existing IEEE 802.16e layer 2 (L2) handover scheme, the fast mobile IPv6 was used by many researches, but long latency is main challenge for real-time applications. In this paper, to solve latency problem, an integrated scheme is proposed that it combines cross layer design and cross function optimization. The integrated scheme, bases on a pre-establish tunnels concept is dealt both, L2 handover in 802.16e and L3 handover in fast mobile IPv6 to effectively blend the relative messages of L2 and L3. The proposed scheme is compare with the scheme what standardized in IETF network working group (RFC5270). Analytic results prove that the proposed scheme can reduce not only handover latency but also packet losses.
