In this article, as one of the basic studies to promote the use of GLB(Glued Laminated Bamboo), we report on the examination of material strength using the GLB. Recently, it is concerned about wood shortage to increase the wooden, sustainable resources, construction. To satisfy those requirements, bamboo which is left and not managed, was adopted as structural materials, were verified characteristic value;bending, compression (parallel or vertical to fiber), and shearing strength (small or real scale), by experiments. © 2024 Architectural Institute of Japan. In this study, a method was developed to assess the results of bond strength tests with the aim of mitigating the degradation of long-term performance in post-installed anchors. This degradation can occur due to the absence of an upper limit on maximum displacement at bond strength and the allowance for significant creep deformation. The study confirmed that utilizing a judgment equation based on linear approximation and tri-linear curves can evaluate the test results that are allowed, necessary to reassess, potentially suitable for use, and requiring disposal. © 2024 Architectural Institute of Japan. This work focuses on compressing vast amounts of time series data from IoT sensors while achieving low reconstruction error, at a low compression ratio (ratio of output data size to input data size), for efficient storage and transmission. We investigate two lossy compression techniques: Adaptive Piecewise Linear Approximation (APLA) and Sparse Encoding (SE). APLA reduces data volume by leveraging the temporal correlation in time series data, while SE captures small, complex variations that APLA might miss. We identify a signal characteristic parameter, denoted by σd, which is used to derive error bounds for SE using σd, the dictionary used, and the input compression parameters. We also introduce APLASE, a novel compression technique that combines the two techniques by applying SE to the reconstruction error generated by APLA. We evaluate APLA, SE and APLASE using data from the NASA flight data recorder database consisting of recordings from 116 sensors. Our results show that APLASE consistently outperforms both APLA and SE individually, as well as the recent QoZ algorithm, particularly at lower compression ratios. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper discusses the implementation of atomic instructions in a dual-core 64-bit out-of-order superscalar processors based on the open-source RISC-V instruction set architecture. Leveraging the advantage of RISC-V's modularization characteristics, each core implements RV64IMAFDC extension and optional supervisor and user mode privilege levels. In this paper, we focus on the A-extension, the atomic instruction set extension. This extension introduces instructions that provide atomic memory operations, enabling synchronization across multiple RISC-V harts within the same memory space. Our goal is to present an efficient execution flow of atomic memory operation instructions and Load-Reserved/Store-Conditional instructions for a dual-core system-on-Chip. We subsequently verify the synchronization capabilities through the execution of a standalone game application on SoC implemented on a Xilinx Kintex UltraScale KU085 FPGA-based board. © 2024 IEEE.

Marine accidents often result from errors in situation awareness (SA) among navigators. Despite the ongoing unmanned ship projects worldwide, the implementation of unmanned systems on many ships is expected to take a considerable amount of time. Therefore, the support technology for shipboard navigators and maritime autonomous surface ship's operators will continue to be crucial in the future. Additionally, to address the challenges posed by the shortage and aging of seafarers, supporting the SA of beginner navigators is essential. In this study, we propose a support system for enhancing the SA of beginner navigators using voice information. This system aims to encourage the gathering of information on target ships and, if necessary, prompt actions against target ships. The results of simulator experiments with cadets, using the Situation Awareness Global Assessment Technique demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed support system in enhancing SA and decision-making among beginner navigators through voice information. However, to enhance the practicality of the system, it is essential to adjust the timing, contents, and frequency of the voice information according to the skill levels of beginner navigators. © 2024 IEEE.

To evaluate Q–Δ resonance, which is a torsional resonance phenomenon caused by geometric non-linearity, we proposed a simplified model for an n-story non-eccentric building model with a shear-type structure. We designed and fabricated a four-story small-scale specimen assuming a non-eccentric steel structure with a height of 324 m, and conducted shaking table tests. As a result, the occurrence of Q–Δ resonance was confirmed as predicted by the simplified model. In addition, the simplified model reproduced the resonance amplitude in a finite element model of the specimen with the out-of-plane rotation of slabs constrained and its validity was confirmed. © 2023 Authors. Lignin, a byproduct of the pulping process, is an eco-friendly material that can potentially replace petroleum-based polymers and can be fabricated into nanocomposite fibers through electrospinning. This study explored the electrospinning of lignin/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) blends using two different lignin sources: softwood kraft lignin (SL) and bamboo organosolv lignin (BL). The effects of PEO content (3–6 wt%) and lignin type on solution properties and fiber formation were investigated. The viscosity of the spinning solutions increased with higher PEO content, and BL solutions exhibited higher viscosity than SL solutions under the same conditions. The fiber diameter increased with the PEO content, regardless of the lignin type, with diameters ranging from 320 to 878 nm. At the same PEO concentration, BL-based fibers exhibited larger diameters than SL-based fibers. Furthermore, when the PEO content exceeded 5 wt%, uniform, and bead-free nanofibers were successfully formed. These research findings demonstrate the potential for lignin-based nanofiber production. When utilizing bamboo organosolv lignin, it is expected that the amount of PEO additive can be reduced compared to softwood kraft lignin. © 2025 Korean Technical Assoc. of the Pulp and Paper Industry. This paper presents a comprehensive methodology for applying FMECA(Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis) to railway vehicle braking systems, guided by international and national standards. In this paper, through the analysis of related regulations and requirements, the primary failure modes were identified, and an FMECA method was developed based on these results. By comparing and analyzing the proposed FMECA methodology with actual field data and confirming its effectiveness, it was possible to confirm the utility of the proposed analysis method as a means of verification for RAMS related conformity assessment. We have successfully demonstrated a diaphragm-type pneumatic valve capable of amplifying electrostatic actuation and attenuating air pressure applied onto the diaphragm. When a high voltage is applied between the flexible electrode coated on top of the diaphragm and an underneath ground electrode, the electrostatic attraction induces a zipping motion of the diaphragm. The actuation of the pneumatic valve can seal an air chamber and maintain its internal pressure at a high level, which drives a circular elastomer membrane to form a bump and stimulate the skin. If the applied voltage falls below a certain threshold, air bypasses the diaphragm to the atmosphere and causes a sharp drop of the inter pressure, whose magnitude is controlled by a dedicated fluidic resistor located upstream. By manipulating pressure, the electrically-driven valve can control the movement of the membrane and the stimulation to the skin. In the prototype demonstration, structures are 3D manufactured, selectively coated with silver electrodes, and integrated to realize the proposed actuator with 1 cm3 in volume. The fabricated circular elastomer membrane of 3 mm in diameter and 0.1 mm in thickness forms a bump of 0.5 mm in height under an air pressure of 10 kPa, which requires a voltage of >472 V for the valve to maintain. While the voltage is lower than 472 V, the pressure drops and the membrane moves down. Once a voltage of >814 V is applied, it seals the chamber and forms the bump again. Therefore, haptic actuation can be generated as desired. © 2024 SPIE.

In this study, we fabricated 12 nm-thick Hf0.5Zr0.5O2(HZO)/HfO2-ZrO2 superlattice (SL-HZO) ferroelectric FinFET (Fe-FinFET) with SiO2/AlON interfacial layers (IL) for comparison. Compared to conventional HZO, SL-HZO Fe-FinFET shows a larger memory window (MW). Meanwhile, the AION-based device owns lower operation voltage due to a more significant voltage drop across the FE layer. Overall, SL-HZO Fe-FinFET with AION IL unleashes the potential of FeFET memory, enabling both low power consumption and a large MW. © 2023 JSAP.
