With the advancement in technology, digital images can easily be transmitted and stored over the internet. Encryption is used to avoid illegal interception of digital images. Encrypting large-sized colour images in their original dimension generally results in low encryption/decryption speed along with exerting a burden on the limited bandwidth of the transmission channel. To address the aforementioned issues, a new encryption scheme for colour images employing convolutional autoencoder, DNA and chaos is presented in this paper. The proposed scheme has two main modules, the dimensionality conversion module using the proposed convolutional autoencoder, and the encryption/decryption module using DNA and chaos. The dimension of the input colour image is first reduced from N × M × 3 toP × Q gray-scale image using the encoder. Encryption and decryption are then performed in the reduced dimension space. The decrypted gray-scale image is upsampled to obtain the original colour image having dimension N × M × 3. The training and validation accuracy of the proposed autoencoder is 97% and 95%, respectively. Once the autoencoder is trained, it can be used to reduce and subsequently increase the dimension of any arbitrary input colour image. The efficacy of the designed autoencoder has been demonstrated by the successful reconstruction of the compressed image into the original colour image with negligible perceptual distortion. The second major contribution presented in this paper is an image encryption scheme using DNA along with multiple chaotic sequences and substitution boxes. The security of the proposed image encryption algorithm has been gauged using several evaluation parameters, such as histogram of the cipher image, entropy, NPCR, UACI, key sensitivity, contrast, etc. The experimental results of the proposed scheme demonstrate its effectiveness to perform colour image encryption. © 2022, CC BY.

Multi-scale approach representing image objects at various levels-of-details has been applied to various computer vision tasks. Existing image classification approaches place more emphasis on multi-scale convolution kernels, and overlook multi-scale feature maps. As such, some shallower information of the network will not be fully utilized. In this paper, we propose the Multi-Scale Residual (MSR) module that integrates multi-scale feature maps of the underlying information to the last layer of Convolutional Neural Network. Our proposed method significantly enhances the characteristics of the information in the final classification. Extensive experiments conducted on CIFAR100, Tiny-ImageNet and large-scale CalTech-256 datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method compared with Res-Family.

A new spectrum sensing detector is proposed and analytically studied, when it operates under generalized noise channels. Particularly, the McLeish distribution is used to model the underlying noise, which is suitable for both non-Gaussian (impulsive) as well as classical Gaussian noise modeling. The introduced detector adopts a moment-based approach, whereas it is not required to know the transmit signal and channel fading statistics (i.e., blind detection). Important performance metrics are presented in closed forms, such as the false-alarm probability, detection probability and decision threshold. Analytical and simulation results are cross-compared validating the accuracy of the proposed approach. Finally, it is demonstrated that the proposed approach outperforms the conventional energy detector in the practical case of noise uncertainty, yet introducing a comparable computational complexity. Generalized energy detection (GED) is analytically studied when operates under fast-faded channels and in the presence of generalized noise. For the first time, the McLeish distribution is used to model the underlying noise, which is suitable for both non-Gaussian (impulsive) as well as classical Gaussian noise channels. Important performance metrics are presented in closed forms, such as the false-alarm and detection probabilities as well as the decision threshold. Analytical and simulation results are cross-compared validating the accuracy of the proposed approach in the entire signal-to-noise ratio regime. Finally, useful outcomes are extracted with respect to GED system settings under versatile noise environments and when noise uncertainty is present. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. internet has taken a giant leap ahead from 'ICT' to 'internet of Things', making it possible to connect devices and transfer data with or without human intervention. IoT pillars such as devices, people, processes and data are connected with one another in a way that they can communicate with each other over internet. An attempt has been made to explain the potential impact of IoT on academic libraries and identify library areas where it can be implemented effectively. This paper outlines an initiative to develop an internet of Things environment in academic library to support library space management such as study room occupancy service using IoT applications. This would enable a growing hands-on experience with the internet of Things, using the security parameter of - face recognition" as face is a non-intrusive strong biometric for user identification within library management. This proposed solution is a step towards a smart library. The results and analysis show that the proposed IoT solution will accelerate the library rooms' availability process without librarians' intervention. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

As data explosion grows, data quality issues become more and more concerned. Data timeliness as an important data quality property plays a key role in data mining. In the absence of timestamps, based on chronological order Association rules can better repair data, while conditional function dependence is a semantic complement to function dependencies, and it is widely used in database consistency repair. The general algorithm framework for timeliness and consistency repair in data quality is studied. Firstly, the definition of state timeliness rules and the mining algorithm of conditional function dependence are clarified. Then, based on the state type timeliness rules, the data is missing and error repaired in the case of timestamp missing, and then the conditional function is used to repair the data consistency. Finally, the algorithm is performed. The implementation and verification of the algorithm-related parameters on the real data set, the test success rate is tested and verified. The repair results have higher success rate and significant effect, and have application value in timeliness and consistency repair.

In this paper, a novel 3D cellular model consisting of aerial base stations (aBSs) and aerial user equipments (aUEs) is proposed, by integrating the coordinated multi-point (CoMP) transmission technique with the theory of stochastic geometry. For this new 3D architecture, a tractable model for aBSs' deployment based on binomial Delaunay-tetrahedralization is developed, which ensures seamless coverage for a given space. In addition, a versatile and practical frequency allocation scheme is designed to eliminate the inter-cell interference effectively. Based on this model, performance metrics including the ergodic data rate and coverage probability are derived for two types of aUEs: i) general aUE (i.e., an aUE having distinct distances from its serving aBSs) and ii) the worst-case aUE (i.e., an aUE having equal distances from its serving aBSs). Simulation and numerical results demonstrate that the proposed approach emphatically outperforms the conventional binomial-Voronoi tessellation without CoMP. Insightfully, it provides a similar performance as to the binomial-Voronoi tessellation which utilizes the conventional CoMP scheme;yet, introducing a considerably reduced computational complexity and backhaul/signaling overhead. It is a matter of fact that Europe is facing more and more crucial challenges regarding health and social care due to the demographic change and the current economic context. The recent COVID-19 pandemic has stressed this situation even further, thus highlighting the need for taking action. Active and Assisted Living (AAL) technologies come as a viable approach to help facing these challenges, thanks to the high potential they have in enabling remote care and support. Broadly speaking, AAL can be referred to as the use of innovative and advanced Information and Communication Technologies to create supportive, inclusive and empowering applications and environments that enable older, impaired or frail people to live independently and stay active longer in society. AAL capitalizes on the growing pervasiveness and effectiveness of sensing and computing facilities to supply the persons in need with smart assistance, by responding to their necessities of autonomy, independence, comfort, security and safety. The application scenarios addressed by AAL are complex, due to the inherent heterogeneity of the end-user population, their living arrangements, and their physical conditions or impairment. Despite aiming at diverse goals, AAL systems should share some common characteristics. They are designed to provide support in daily life in an invisible, unobtrusive and user-friendly manner. Moreover, they are conceived to be intelligent, to be able to learn and adapt to the requirements and requests of the assisted people, and to synchronise with their specific needs. Nevertheless, to ensure the uptake of AAL in society, potential users must be willing to use AAL applications and to integrate them in their daily environments and lives. In this respect, video- and audio-based AAL applications have several advantages, in terms of unobtrusiveness and information richness. Industry 4.0 advocates an intensive use of information and communication technologies in manufacturing facilities for achieving sustainability and success in a market with exigent and informed consumers willing personalized products and services. Three main concepts of the Industry 4.0 paradigm are addressed: cyber-physical systems, the internet of Things, and virtualization. A Petri net model of a smart factory regarding the Industry 4.0 paradigm is proposed as virtualization for decision making support. Enhanced computing and communication capabilities of machines and products allow implementing the approach of mass customization. Any product is associated to a sequence of services, being able to request them to the appropriate machines. The formalism of the object Petri nets has been chosen, where a token net is associated to the product and a system net to the facility. The resulting model can be considered for analysis, performance evaluation, and decision making support. © 2018

Metasurface-coated devices: A new paradigm for energy-efficient and secure 6G communications

The sixth-generation (6G) era comes with the challenge of offering highly energy-efficient and autonomous communications securely. In this direction, we report energy efficiency (EE), energy harvesting (EH), and secure performance by employing power-collecting metasurface-coated devices capable of supporting ultra-low-power (ULP) transmissions. Contrary to reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), where the reflected signal can be combined at the receiver by being treated as transmitted from a relay, the proposed metasurface claddings can be deployed at either or both the transmitter and receiver. The passive metasurface-coated devices can achieve ultra-high EE and EH besides the signal detection, combined with an enhanced secrecy rate at the legitimate user and/or improved spying capabilities of the eavesdroppers under ULP transmission. To quantify their efficiency, we provide a holistic model for the utilization of the metasurface shells. Building upon the aforementioned model, preliminary results are presented that reveal the unprecedented superiority of the proposed concept compared to the RIS paradigm. Additionally, we enumerate the main advantages of the new concept and define its role in the 6G era. Finally, possible research directions are discussed. Copyright © 2020, The Authors.
