The identification of cosmic objects emitting high energy neutrinos provides new insights about the Universe and its active sources. The existence of cosmic neutrinos has been proven by the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, but the big question of which sources these neutrinos originate from remains largely unanswered. The KM3NeT detector for Astroparticle Research with Cosmics in the Abyss (ARCA), is currently being built in the Mediterranean Sea. It will have an instrumented volume of a cubic kilometre, and excel at identifying cosmic neutrino sources due to its unprecedented angular resolution ( 100 TeV). KM3NeT has a view of the sky complementary to IceCube, and is sensitive to neutrinos across a wide range of energies. Currently KM3NeT/ARCA is taking data with 21 detector lines. A search for point-like and extended sources of cosmic neutrinos using data collected by the ANTARES and IceCube neutrino telescopes is presented. The data set consists of all the track-like and shower-like events pointing in the direction of the Southern Sky included in the nine-year ANTARES point-source analysis, combined with the through-going track-like events used in the seven-year IceCube point-source search. The advantageous field of view of ANTARES and the large size of IceCube are exploited to improve the sensitivity in the Southern Sky by a factor ∼2 compared to both individual analyses. In this work, the Southern Sky is scanned for possible excesses of spatial clustering, and the positions of preselected candidate sources are investigated. In addition, special focus is given to the region around the Galactic Centre, whereby a dedicated search at the location of SgrA* is performed, and to the location of the supernova remnant RXJ 1713.7-3946. No significant evidence for cosmic neutrino sources is found and upper limits on the flux from the various searches are presented. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The Southern Wide-field Gamma-ray Observatory (SWGO) is the next-generation gamma-ray observatory, currently in an R&D phase. The experiment is expected to have a large array of water Cherenkov detectors (WCD) placed at a high elevation (> 4.4 km a.s.l.) in South America. Here we present a WCD concept with reduced surface area and height of stations comprising four PMTs at the bottom. We show that it is possible to reach an excellent gamma/hadron discrimination by analysing the data gathered by this station with machine learning techniques. Such performance can be achieved by analysing the shower patterns at the ground or through the PMTs signal time structure to tag muons. Moreover, it is shown that the station's performance does not depend on the array configuration (dense or sparse) nor on the shower inclination (θ◦). Such a concept reduces the cost associated with the transport of massive amounts of water to high elevation sites while keeping a high physics performance. Therefore, it could be a good candidate station for SWGO, enabling to reach good sensitivities from low energies (∼ 100 GeV) up to the PeV region, covering large ground surface areas (few square km). © 2022 Sissa Medialab Srl. Due to an increase of timing requirements in many actual and future applications, improvements are needed in current synchronization protocols. New scenarios as the Internet of Things or the next generation of 5G Mobile telecommunication networks, where a large number of devices must be interconnected, will stand in need of a better synchronization accuracy and a highly scalable protocol. White Rabbit (WR) is a multi-collaborative open project aiming at the distribution of timing with sub-nanosecond accuracy to thousand of nodes connected within an Ethernet network. It is built as an extension of the Precision Time Protocol (PTP). In order to improve the PTP's accuracy, WR incorporates some enhancements such as a precise link delay model, fine delay phase measurement and clock syntonization over the physical layer. In this paper we focus on the scalability analysis of the WR solution with networks of more than 15 hops connected in a daisy-chain configuration, using the WR Light Embedded Node (WR-LEN) which includes the White Rabbit PTP Core Dual Port. The study evaluates the scalability of the WR extensions to PTPv2 for the achievement of ultra-accurate time transfer in networks with linear topology. The contribution results are relevant for applications where the scalability of the timing solution is a fundamental ingredient for addressing novel applications and markets.

The massive amount of tourists, citizens and traffic in big cities usually collapse busy areas causing transport inefficiency, unbalanced economic growth, crime, and nuisance among citizens and visitors. Therefore, the Smart City strategies such as Smart Mobility and Smart Governance naturally arise as means to improve mobility in urban areas. In this paper we propose a novel mobility management platform and business model that can attract numerous actors and still be orchestrated by the city government. The proposed platform integrates mobility data from various sources such as Open Data, mobile applications, sensors and government data, allowing for its visualisation and analysis while making it actionable through associated third party mobile applications. We propose to inject the city mobility policies to the third party mobile applications which provide services related to the city resources. In this way we form a value chain which connects different actors (city governments, mobile application providers, POI owners, companies that require logistics in cities, and final users) who both take a part in improving the mobility in urban areas, and benefit from the way mobility policies being executed. In this paper we discuss the business model and logical architecture of the proposed platform which has been already deployed in the city of Barcelona.

The measurement of the flux of muons produced in cosmic ray air showers is essential for the study of primary cosmic rays. Such measurements are important in extensive air shower detectors to assess the energy spectrum and the chemical composition of the cosmic ray flux, complementary to the information provided by fluorescence detectors. Detailed simulations of the cosmic ray air showers are carried out, using codes such as CORSIKA, to estimate the muon flux at sea level. These simulations are based on the choice of hadronic interaction models, for which improvements have been implemented in the post-LHC era. In this work, a deficit in simulations that use state-of-the-art QCD models with respect to the measurement deep underwater with the KM3NeT neutrino detectors is reported. The KM3NeT/ARCA and KM3NeT/ORCA neutrino telescopes are sensitive to TeV muons originating mostly from primary cosmic rays with energies around 10 TeV. The predictions of state-of-the-art QCD models show that the deficit with respect to the data is constant in zenith angle;no dependency on the water overburden is observed. The observed deficit at a dept. of several kilometres is compatible with the deficit seen in the comparison of the simulations and measurements at sea level. © 2024, CC BY.

KM3NeT/ARCA is a Cherenkov neutrino telescope under construction in the Mediterranean sea, optimised for the detection of astrophysical neutrinos with energies above ∼1 TeV. In this work, using Monte Carlo simulations including all-flavour neutrinos, the integrated and differential sensitivities for KM3NeT/ARCA are presented considering the case of a diffuse neutrino flux as well as extended and point-like neutrino sources. This analysis is applied to Starburst Galaxies demonstrating that the detector has the capability of tracing TeV neutrinos from these sources. Remarkably, after eight years, a hard power-law spectrum from the nearby Small Magellanic Cloud can be constrained. The sensitivity and discovery potential for NGC 1068 is also evaluated showing that KM3NeT/ARCA will discriminate between different astrophysical components of the measured neutrino flux after 3 years of data taking. © 2024, CC BY.

We present the results of the first combined dark matter search targeting the Galactic Centre using the ANTARES and IceCube neutrino telescopes. For dark matter particles with masses from 50 to 1000 GeV, the sensitivities on the self-annihilation cross section set by ANTARES and IceCube are comparable, making this mass range particularly interesting for a joint analysis. Dark matter self-annihilation through the τ+τ−, µ+µ−, b¯b and W+W− channels is considered for both the Navarro-Frenk-White and Burkert halo profiles. In the combination of 2,101.6 days of ANTARES data and 1,007 days of IceCube data, no excess over the expected background is observed. Limits on the thermally-averaged dark matter annihilation cross section hσAυi are set. These limits present an improvement of up to a factor of two in the studied dark matter mass range with respect to the individual limits published by both collaborations. When considering dark matter particles with a mass of 200 GeV annihilating through the τ+τ− channel, the value obtained for the limit is 7.44 ×10−24cm3s−1 for the Navarro-Frenk-White halo profile. For the purpose of this joint analysis, the model parameters and the likelihood are unified, providing a benchmark for forthcoming dark matter searches performed by neutrino telescopes. Inside a "Bring Your Own Device" environment, the employees can freely use their devices. This allows them mix their personal and work life, but at the same time, if the users are not aware of a risky situation, or that situation is not covered by a company security policy or rule, this environment can become very insecure. The aim of this paper is defining a novel system architecture able to self-adapt itself, in the sense that it will learn from past, non secure situations, and therefore will be able to determine whether a new situation is risky or not. This Paper proposes the use of a variety of techniques, from Data Mining of big amounts of recorded data to Evolutionary Algorithms for refining a set of existing policies, maybe creating new ones. A preliminary method that automatically extracts rules to avoid or deny URL connections helps to demonstrate that, by performing a good preprocessing of the data, useful conclusions can be extracted from new - unknown - situations. Therefore, it is possible to successfully extend a set of rules, usually laid out by the company, for covering new, and potentially dangerous, situations. © 2015 ACM.

Power dissipation is a major issue with testing of designs having full scan architectures. The proposed scan technique minimizes toggle activity while scanning in test patterns. The method uses bit inversion technique to avoid toggles in scan flip-flops. The setup is dynamically configurable to one among the logic reversal structure and traditional scan while shift-in/shift-out of test patterns. Experimental results indicate that the average toggle activity is minimized substantially compared to California Scan architecture. It has features of full diagnosability of single stuck-at faults along the scan chain path.
