How to impose essential and natural boundary conditions has been the key issue of mesh-free methods because the nodes are not located along a boundary in arbitrary geometry in general unlike conventional finite element method(FEM). The extended finite element method(X-FEM), one of the mesh-free methods is suitable to deal with geometric discontinuity inside an element in fixed mesh such as crack or hole, but has the same problem. In this paper we introduce a method of constructing nodal constraint equations and distributing loading into element nodes for essential or natural boundary conditions imposed along boundaries in the X-FEM problems.

Recently, study on individuality of humans' subjectivity has been emphasized in the field of Kansei engineering. This paper presents a stratification method for Semantic Differential (SD) evaluation data considering subjects' individuality. This paper defines two indexes for classification of subjects based on their SD data with individuality. These indexes are quantified by the residuals and the amount of transformation in applying the Orthogonal Procrustes Analysis between the averaged SD evaluation data and the individual ones. This paper employs images of laptop computers as the objects of the evaluation by SD method. This paper shows that the proposed method is effective in classification of SD evaluation data for the stratified analysis.

Fuzzy theory has attracted many researchers/engineers as a method that introduces human subjectivity into science. Recently, the importance of user's subjective view has been re-emphasized in the field of Chance Discovery. This paper proposes a method that visualizes a user's subjective view on multi-dimensional data. This method reduces the multi-dimensional space into a visual one utilizing the user's subjective view. The proposed method employs the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) or Multiple Discriminant Analysis (MDA) for identifying the projection axes that reflects his/her subjective view. Through the visualized data, the user can observe his/her own subjective view on the data, and other people can know and discuss the personal view. This paper applies the proposed method to a data set of decathlon in the Sydney Olympic Games. In this experiment, the user's subjective view of data is visualized. This paper shows that the proposed method succeeds in providing the user with a new interpretation of the data different from the conventional multivariable analyses. This paper also shows that the visualization of the data using subjective variable selection can yield meaningful results different from those of the PCA applied to all the combinations from ten variables, and that of factor analysis.
