The project of E-Simulator is under way at Hyogo Earthquake Engineering Research Center (E-Defense) of National Research Institute of Earth Science and Disaster Prevention (NIED), Japan, which facilitates the world's largest shaking table. The E-Simulator uses the parallel finite element (FE) analysis software package called ADVENTYRECluster (ADVC) as a platform. In this study, we report the results of high-precision FE-analysis for simulation of collapse behavior of the 4-story steel building frame that is the specimen of the full-scale total collapse shaking-table test conducted in September 2007 at E-Defense. It is shown that elastoplastic dynamic responses can be estimated with good accuracy using a high-precision FE-analysis without resort to macro models such as plastic hinge and composite beam effect.

This paper presents the results of 44 well known memory tests applied to 1896 1M*4 DRAM chips, using up to 96 different stress combinations with each test. The results show the importance of selecting the right stress combination, and that the theoretically better tests (i.e. those covering different functional faults) also have a higher fault coverage. However the currently used fault models still leave much to be explained; e.g., the used data backgrounds and address orders show an unexplainable large variation in fault coverage.

A multstatic frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar system is under development for use in the control system of autonomous vehicles. The aim of the system, named Colarado, is the 3D location of obstacles in the surrounding environment. In this paper a laboratory prototype system version, the demonstrator, is described and current results are presented.

Modeling and Simulation (M&S) is one of the most multifaceted topics present today in both industry and academia. However, we are involved in a new M&S paradigm. systems are becoming more complex and new simulation needs arise and have to be studied. As a consequence, the way in which we perform M&S must be adapted, providing new ideas and tools. In this paper, we propose a rule-based constraints evaluator, which facilitate the validation and verification of complex models in a transparent manner. For this, constraints are defined. The constraints definition process is completely independent of the model development process because (a) the set of constraints is defined once the model has been developed, and (b) constraints are validated at simulation time. The proposed Constraint M&S architecture has been built using the Discrete Event System Specification (DEVS) formalism and has been tested on a validated data center simulation model.

Bayesian inference comprises of parameter estimation and model selection/comparison. A common approach to solving both of these problems has been to use statistical sampling techniques that are inherently non‐Bayesian. This paper presents new Bayesian sampling method that solves both problems by changing the focus of Bayesian inference to the model selection problem first. In the papers [N. Xiang and P. M. Goggins, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 110, 1415–1424 (2001); 113, 2685–2697 (2003)], the authors developed a model for the decay times and decay modes of acoustically coupled rooms in terms of measured Schroeder’s decay functions. This paper shows how the Bayesian sampling method can be used to evaluate the ‘‘Bayesian evidence’’ term used in model selection as well as determining the decay times along with error estimates.
This paper applies the methods of Bayesian inference to the estimation of decay times in coupled rooms. Previous papers [N. Xiang and P. M. Goggans, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 110, 1415–1424 (2001); 113, 2685–2697 (2003)] ...

This paper extends the previous work by using statistical sampling methods to efficiently determine the decay times along with error estimates and evaluate the ‘‘Bayesian evidence’’ term used in determining the number of decay modes. This paper discusses the implemented methods together with the previous work to solve the problem of decay time estimation as well as determining the number of decay modes in acoustically coupled rooms.

Capturing users' spatio-temporal context by recognizing their interests, locations, history and activities, and thereafter providing context-aware services is a challenging task. In this paper, we propose a spatio-temporal zoning model that takes different context dimensions into account and try to recommend necessary services to users in a personalized way. First, we propose a generic zoning model with unrestricted set of contexts where both spatial and temporal dimensions are relaxed, followed by two semi-restricted zoning models in which either spatial or temporal dimension is relaxed, while the other one is restricted. Finally, we show the model requiring restricted spatio-temporal zoning that applies to the scenario where millions of users need to perform some activities that have to be performed in a certain location and at a certain temporal period. We use the above zoning model for Hajj and Umrah events to define pilgrim's spatio-temporal contexts by capturing their real-time and historic activities through their smartphones' sensory data. This allows to intelligently recommend a set of necessary services to the users. We present a few of the implementations introduced in our proposed system.
