This paper presents a preprocessing method to solve the security-constrained unit commitment with AC power flows (SCUC-ACPF), which is a large scale mixed-integer non-convex, nonlinear optimization problem. We introduce clustering algorithms and local search to reduce problem complexity, and obtain local optimal solutions within limited solving time and computational capacity. The clustering algorithms group buses into manageable clusters centered around core buses, creating smaller sub-grids for efficient optimization. The local search algorithms iteratively explore and improve solution quality. Our method ensures balanced clusters that respect physical and operational constraints, significantly enhancing optimization efficiency and contributing to more effective grid management and operation. © 2025 IEEE.

In the past few decades, Seizure Detection has been a vital cornerstone in biomedical research. Both hardware and software implementations have been explored to improve algorithms, detection performance and resources. In this paper, three handcrafted features composed of Coastline Function, Hurst Exponent and Fractal Dimension are used as training data for supervised learning models to build an efficient and sensitive seizure detector. Random Forest classifier exhibits the best accuracy at 98%. Hardware efficiency, too, is exploited through a modified Feature Extractor that combines the aforementioned features. The features are adjusted to reduce their hardware resources on Virtex-7 FPGA. The area utilization is improved by 10%, power utilization is improved by 20% and latency decreased by 32%. © 2024 IEEE.

Floods are one of the most common and adverse disasters that the world faces. In India, floods are seemed as the disaster that happens often and pose extreme risk to lives and belongings. Forecasting floods can greatly reduce the risk and effect of the forthcoming flood. A large quantity of parameters is answerable for flood occurrence. The amount of rainfall and temperature are the most vital parameters for inflicting floods. Hence rainfall and temperature are used as determinants inside the look at. Machine learning model such as logistic regression, Naive bayes, k-Nearest neighbours, support vector machines (SVM) and random forests generally generate a model or computation method to label the results. Further, in latest days, hybridization techniques are expected to yield better results, wherein multiple models are combined to provide a new model. The proposed work is to develop a hybrid model called HMM-ML which includes Hidden Markov model with the above cited ML models. as a result, HMM acts as a first-class-tuner to stimulate the model. The developed model is validated against the region Kozhikode located in the State of Kerala, India which gets the maximum amount of rainfall during the period between June - August. © 2023 IEEE.

We propose a low-complexity downlink channel covariance matrix estimation for massive multiple-input multiple-output systems in which the base station (BS) is equipped with a uniform rectangular antenna array (URA). This scheme can be expressed in the form of an affine transformation which depends only on the uplink and downlink carrier frequencies, and the BS array configurations. An upper bound on the estimation error is derived, which shows that the accuracy of the proposed scheme increases with the number of URA antennas and the compactness and differentiability class of the periodic extension of a non-linearly transformed version of the angular power spread. The performance superiority of the proposed scheme over its existing counterparts is confirmed through simulations. © 2023 IEEE.

Internet services are now accessible everywhere in the world due to the rapid advancement of networks and technology in recent decades. The development of information security solutions that can recognize novel threats is now critical due to the surge in piracy and the compromising of many modern systems. An intrusion detection system (IDS) is one of the most important information security technologies. It uses machine learning and deep learning algorithms to locate anomalies in the network. The main goal of this paper is to identify the unknown assault package by utilizing a novel intrusion detection method that offers excellent network performance. In this model, two techniques-binary classification and multiclass classification-that make use of a deep neural network algorithm are used to detect attacks. This paper employs machine learning techniques to combat the escalating threat of phishing attacks in the digital realm. The research builds a predictive model capable of differentiating between phishing and legitimate websites by examining a broad range of information retrieved from website URLs, including address bar-based properties, domain characteristics, and webpage content. To ascertain their effectiveness in this task, six well-known machine learning algorithms-Decision Tree, Random Forest, XGBoost, Deep Learning, Autoencoder Neural Network, and Support Vector Machines-are rigorously investigated. Notably, the Multilayer Perceptrons algorithm emerges as the standout performer, achieving an 86.4% accuracy in identifying phishing websites. This endeavor not only advances the field of cybersecurity but also empowers individuals to proactively safeguard themselves against the pervasive threat of phishing attacks in an increasingly interconnected digital landscape. © 2023 IEEE.

Proficiency in mathematics is essential for both academic and professional success, yet many students find the subject difficult, especially when preparing for important exams like Sri Lanka's General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.) Ordinary Level examination. In Sri Lanka, the students show poor pass rates in Ordinary Level mathematics examination. In order to improve mathematics education for O/L students, this research suggests an innovative mobile application that makes use of adaptive learning strategies. This application features components like a comprehensive knowledge bank that is curriculum-mapped, pre-assessment tools for identifying knowledge shortages, a weaknesses based lesson recommendation for personalized lesson suggestions, a custom developed chat assistant to interact with the knowledge bank, interactive 3D visualizations and justifications of complex concepts, and platforms for problem-solving, writing, and time management skill development. The suggested adaptive learning strategy makes use of multimedia tools and datadriven insights to tailor instruction to each student's unique needs, improving math comprehension and readiness for the O/L examination in Sri Lanka. © 2024 IEEE.

Most of the recent works on Human Gesture Recognition (HGR) using motion data rely on gathering a dataset, that faces two major challenges: a) the datasets are originally stored on the smart devices at the end-users, and gathering them in one place is not feasible due to communication limitations, and b) clients are reluctant to share their private data with a central server due to privacy concerns. In this paper, we address these issues and propose a privacy-preserving framework based on Federated Learning (FL) for HGR using motion data. Furthermore, we consider data heterogeneity which have destructive effects on the performance of the global model. Accordingly, we propose a communication and computation-efficient client selection method, mitigating the impact of data heterogeneity in the FL process. In the proposed framework, clients are not requested to share sensitive information about their local datasets with the edge server. Simulation results show that the proposed MoFLeuR algorithm improves the performance of the global model in the presence of different degrees of data heterogeneity, and it outperforms the baseline algorithms in terms of different metrics, namely accuracy, convergence speed, and communication and computation efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

Rapid proliferation of aberrant neurons in brain tumors significantly damages organ function or causes death, endangering adult health. These tumors vary widely in terms of their locations, sizes, and textures. Finding malignant tumors requires the use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). However, physically diagnosing brain tumors is a timeconsuming and potentially unpredictable technique. Cropping and resizing to fixed dimensions ensures consistency before submitting brain MRI images for analysis using deep learning models such as modified ResNet-50. This study uses the modified ResNet-50 model, a deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) renowned for its accuracy and resilience in image recognition tasks, to provide an efficient method for brain tumor diagnosis. Initially trained on Image Net, the modified ResNet-50 model further improved using transfer learning on many annotated brain MRI scan datasets. By adding variation to the dataset, data augmentation makes the model more robust and helps it to generalize. Deeper networks are trained without sacrificing performance to the model's architecture, which addresses the vanishing gradient problem. This work classification model implemented using Python software, which facilitated the development, training, and evaluation processes, allowing for an analysis of their performance. The optimized model outperformed conventional Machine Learning (ML) techniques, demonstrating over 94% accuracy in tumor identification and classification tests. With the potential to enhance patient outcomes and diagnostic efficiency, the integration of modified ResNet-50 in brain tumor identification offers a significant development towards accurate and dependable automated diagnostic systems. The accuracy of the modified Resnet-50 is 94%, and the specificity comparison of the modified ResNet-50 is 93.5%, respectively. © 2024 IEEE.
