Due to the growing number of cloud users working on various cloud apps on specific infrastructure, resource allocation in cloud computing is implicitly difficult. Most resource allocation strategies currently in use focused on delivering efficiency determined by the workload of applications across many domains, such as business and scientific. Cloud service brokers compete strongly with one another to provide quality of service improvements based on the need, demand and the rapid growth of the services that are offered. Such conflict makes it difficult and complex to provide simple service selection and composition services in the cloud, this needs to be addressed to lighten the load on local resources. Because cloud-based services are too sophisticated and scalable, it is preferable to use an optimization strategy to choose the services that will meet the needs of the clients. To do this, a hybrid algorithm Modified Ant Colony System Cloud Services Composition (MACSCSC) is proposed to employ Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) incorporated with Genetic Algorithm (GA) to smoothly increase cloud-based services. When allocating cloud resources these meta-heuristic algorithms can achieve significantly better performance, lower costs and instances, better utilization of resources, and increased energy efficiency. The empirical findings on different real datasets have been demonstrated to show the improvements of the suggested method to overcome the drawbacks such as allocation of resources and high power consumption. © 2024 IEEE.

The proposed work employs ns-3, SUMO, and NetAnim to create geographical routing in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs). The research attempts to assess the performance of three well-known protocols AODV, DSDV, and OLSR in VANET settings. Utilizing SUMO's realistic mobility models and NS3's simulation capabilities, the project simulates node communication, protocol behaviour, and vehicle movement. The main purpose is to know how well various routing techniques work in dynamic vehicular situations. © 2024 IEEE.

Green Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) are gaining significance in smart mobility because of growing concerns about the environment. The research introduces a novel method for managing traffic in such networks by combining ant-inspired routing methods with local search optimization approaches. The solution, which draws inspiration from the efficient path-finding abilities of ants, facilitates decentralized communication and sharing of traffic data among cars. It allows rapid adaptation to changing traffic circumstances and environmental elements. Local search optimization enhances routing decisions by considering the near vicinity of each vehicle. Extensive simulations demonstrate notable enhancements in traffic efficiency, decreased congestion, and improved energy conservation as compared to conventional routing methods. The suggested solutions also enhance the development of environmentally friendly and enduring transportation networks. © 2024 IEEE.

The rapid growth of digital technology implies the progress of industry, by utilizing Industrial Internet of Things and Digital Twins, in collecting data through sensors and digitally monitoring and testing a product, with a view to improving its features, before the production of the physical product, in real world. At the same time, industrial carbon emissions are a major issue to be confronted. Since, Digital Twin is a connection between the physical and digital world, transferring data bidirectionally and providing insights into the lifecycle of a production process, it also can be utilized for the reduction of industrial carbon emissions. In this paper, we implement a method for the reduction of carbon emissions, by applying the Industrial Internet of Things to collect past data from manufacturing factors and a Digital Twin architecture to monitor present data, compose a model and predict its future behavior, considering renewable energy resources and less carbon emissions. This method contributes in improved decision making regarding the manufacturing process and energy efficient industrial operation. © 2022 IEEE.

Among image descriptors, texture is one of the most used features to represent the visual content of images. According to several studies, texture could be seen differently based on the selected scale of interest (SoI), which raises a serious problem of finding the appropriate SoI. To tackle this issue, a new scheme based on mathematical morphology and artificial neural networks (ANN) has been introduced. Firstly, the image is subjected to a series of morphological operations to extract the different SoIs. From each SoI, a set of color features are extracted and fed to two successive ANNs in order to categorize the textures. The present scheme maintains the extraction of both color and multi-scale texture information. A comprehensive experimental comparison has been conducted where the present scheme has outperformed other widely known texture and CNN-based descriptors. © 2022 IEEE.

Expanding autocritiquers to other languages requires the difficult task of obtaining and representing antipat-terns. Under the current framework, each language requires a unique Abstract Syntax Tree (AST) and error solution such that both the resulting AST and error summaries can be searched and presented to students. Often similar antipatterns arise that have to be rewritten in each language's own context. This paper proposes the creation of a generalized AST structure for an auto-critiquer under development, that can unify common code structures across similar languages while capturing differences in the languages. This work also proposes a standard for error message representation that can capture similar errors across language specific error messages. There are two motivations to standardizing AST and error message formats. Firstly, our solution allows for a standardized User Interface (UI) and easy integration of new languages with an identical on-boarding process for both professors and students. Secondly, reuse of antipatterns will allow us to skip the time-consuming step of constructing near-identical structural and logical antipattern queries as well as unifying novice based error feedback. © 2023 IEEE.

Open-ended question responses are an unstructured data source that contains extremely useful information. The idea of obtaining information using open-ended questions is particularly popular and frequently employed in various schools and digital platforms. In the field of education, universities collect and generate vast amounts of data daily, left unused or not analysed. This demonstrates the need to develop different models to promote the use of text-based data analysis techniques. In this study, surveys with open-ended questions were used to draw out analytical insights from student views on automated personalised feedback assessments. Opened-ended questions present questions that require answers that use natural language. The human language data described in text documents is made possible by the use of various Natural Language Processing (NLP) approaches. These approaches include the Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) and Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) that analyse open ended questions and surveys data. In this study, LDA is used for modelling topics to analyse students' sentiments on the feedback assessment given to them regarding their performance on the module. Providing automated personalised feedback to large student groups has many challenges, such as the type of communication delivery mode and the language used for feedback about their progress. This study offers an application of NLP in an education environment to provide meaningful and useful student feedback. The paper presents the steps, algorithm and findings so that practitioners can apply this model to their education setting. The findings reveal 87% of students have positive sentiments, 7% are neutral, 5% are confused by the personalised feedback forms. This informs practitioners about the value of the feedback but also areas for future work when offering feedback to students. © 2023 IEEE.

Cybercrimes have significantly increased due to the rapid adoption of software and technology in almost every aspect of our lives. The main memory or RAM of a computing machine is often used to provide critical information about the recent system activities, including the running processes, network connections, used passwords, and encryption keys. Moreover, RAM may contain information about the contents of recently used documents and digital files. Therefore, this paper is focused on studying the RAM-based digital artifacts of different sizes of computer documents. It evaluates the amount of document-based digital artifacts that are recovered from the RAM of a confiscated machine. Our methodology analyzes various memory dumps and learns about the digital artifacts in relation to the contents of a document that might be related to a criminal investigation. Two different usage scenarios are assumed: The first assumes that the RAM dump is created while the document is being opened and viewed whereas the second one assumes the RAM dump is created shortly after the document is being closed. Experiments show that the recovered contents are significantly affected by the used document size;the amount of recovered volatile artifacts of a used document is impacted by the original document size. Results show that the ratio of the recovered contents is very close for various document sizes during the same usage scenario. Additionally, closing the document will reduce the amount of recovered content, but still allow for a significant ratio to be considered as evidence of the actual use of the document on the confiscated machine. © 2023 IEEE.

A Digital Twin offers a revolutionary approach to analyzing scalable networks. By creating high-fidelity, fine-grained digital replicas of the network environment at a low cost, it facilitates comprehensive and safe analysis of network behavior in controlled settings. Numerous digital twin platforms are available online, each with distinct focuses and limitations. This study systematically investigates open-source digital twin platforms for computer networks by establishing a comprehensive set of criteria to evaluate their features and limitations. Subsequently, the chosen platforms undergo a rigorous evaluation using a large-scale distributed computing test case. This testing enables a detailed analysis of resource utilization metrics, offering valuable insights into the performance characteristics of these platforms.

Formal methods are crucial for ensuring higher integrity levels for safety-critical systems. However, teaching these methods can be quite challenging. Students often show low motivation and are primarily focused on passing formal methods courses with minimal effort. Performance in compulsory formal methods courses is usually below average, with students perceiving the subject as overly mathematical and lacking practical relevance. To address these challenges and enrich the learning experience, we have integrated mandatory group homework assignments into our teaching framework. Students are required to work collaboratively on case studies and present their solutions during class. This work-in-progress paper provides an experience report on enhancing the learning possibilities of master’s students in a model checking course at the Frankfurt University of applied sciences (FRA-UAS).
