Common practice in industrial design of discrete controllers as well as in most synthesis procedures advocated for discrete control in academia is to create the control logic and to transfer it into a PLC language before process start-up. Changes in the operational constraints of the controlled process (e.g. of available resources, nominal set-points, occurrences of failures) have to be accounted for by dedicated alternative routines, i.e. dependability is restricted to variations which are envisaged during design. In contrast, the approach proposed in this paper operates online on a model of the uncontrolled process to compute a control strategy that is adapted to the current set of constraints. By using algebraic computations largely resembling techniques for discrete-time continuous-valued controllers, perceived process variations (including newly defined control-goals) are first assessed with respect to the existence of a feasible successful control strategy, before such a dependable and optimal strategy is computed. © 2013 IFAC.

The rising data volumes force significant bottlenecks on the 6G for IoT (6G-IoT) network management functions, which limits the control, flexibility, and interoperability among devices, protocols, and end applications. Solutions like software-defined networking (SDN), and network function virtualization (NFV) are proposed with 6G, but the core management operations are still manual. Thus, to automatically upscale these 6G-IoT networks at reduced cost orchestration complexity, zero-touch networks (ZTN) are proposed. ZTN in 6G-IoT allows a high degree of automation and seamless integration of services. The article proposes a scheme, Zero-Load, that integrates ZTN at the core routing functionality of the 6G-IoT applications. We present a load balancing and traffic classification scheme through the ZTN networking stack for core routers. The ZTN router configuration fabric connects applications with the core services. Further, we present a Gaussian kernel-based support vector machine (SVM) classifier at the ZTN automation layer, which classifies the normal traffic and attack traffic. The proposed work is compared for parameters like mean time to response (MTTR), and resolution latency against baseline SDN and NFV schemes. Using ZTN, an average improvement of 32.45% is obtained in MTTR, and 87.89% in resolution latency (against a query). Using the Gaussian RBF kernel, an accuracy of 0.9914 is reported. These results indicate that ZTN-based management paves the way toward a more dense and intelligent 6G-IoT network. © 2023 IEEE.

There is a significant increase of cloud and networking-enabled applications, leading to an exponential growth of network traffic. Monitoring all these applications and their generated traffic is a challenging and complex task, especially in regard to anonymous networks used to access the Dark Web or darknet. Manual investigation of the network traffic to determine patterns of malicious activity is a very difficult task and the results might not be satisfactory. The usage of machine learning is the most viable approach for the classification of the traffic as normal or malign activity. This paper analyzes CIC-Darknet 2020 dataset to classify the benign and darknet traffic. Before applying any classifiers to our dataset, we have balanced it using Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE). We have applied PCA to reduce dimensionality, furthermore, ensemble techniques, logistic classifiers, tree-classifiers, and Naive Bayes have been compared and evaluated thoroughly with various evaluation metrics Accuracy, Precision, Recall, F1-Score, and Mathew's Correlation Coefficient (MCC). © 2021 IEEE.

Microgrid control becomes more and more developed with the application of this concept on a larger scale. This paper defines the modern microgrid concept and evaluates the possible architectures and control hierarchy. A small scale microgrid architecture is proposed. The components of the system are a wind turbine, a photovoltaic panel and a household. The model was implemented in Matlab/Simulink and a decision table control was proposed. The proposed decisions and actions are defined for both on and off grid operation, in order to benefit most of the local resources. The results of this study are promising in terms of microgrid off grid operation for single dwellings, considering that the house is grid supplied for a period of only 4 hours of the day. © 2018 Politechnica University of Bucharest. Artery intima-media thickness (IMT) is a useful marker for diagnosis of atherosclerosis. In this paper, we have proposed a new scheme for detection and measurement of the IMT in medical ultrasound images, in which the image empirical mode decomposition (IEMD) is used as the detection part as well as adaptive gray stretching, and watershed segmentation for extracting boundary of intima. To measure the IMT, a new method combing with regional positioning and boundary fitting is adopted. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme can yield a good measurement result, and the calculation time can satisfy the practical requirement. Moreover, our method needs less manual input than others. © 2010 IEEE.

the paper analyzes the existing Linux virtual server (LVS) cluster load balancing algorithm and its inadequacies that not real-time dynamic full makes an appraisal to the load on the each server node, designs a new Dynamic Feedback Equalization Algorithm for Minimum Weight. The algorithm considers real-time load and response capacity of each server node, makes pre-load rate of the server combined with response time, dynamic generates server node weights by real-time feedback and conducts adjust to the load balancing of server cluster by using Minimum weight balancing algorithm. This algorithm has done a comparison with the Weighted Least Connections, theory analysis and experimental results show that the improved dynamic load balancing algorithm is more effective than Weighted Least Connections. © 2010 IEEE.

This article introduces some results obtained in monitoring of long pipelines employed in oil and gas transportation. A mobile unit for signals acquisition, processing, identification and diagnosis (MUSAPID), based on wireless sensors networks (WSN) technology was employed. The MUSAPID architecture was adapted to match the configuration of monitoring system, inspired by the national energy dispatcher. Thus, the system includes four hierarchical levels assigned to: the central dispatcher, the zonal dispatcher, the local dispatcher and the sensor nodes. The sensors are acquiring the flow and temperature of oil from the monitored pipeline. Sensors distribution along the pipeline is of in-line type. Nevertheless, a cross-link schema between sensor nodes is proposed, in order to increase the exploitation safety and to reduce false alarms sending. Two independent monitoring approaches based on comparison between values of sensors in pairs of successive nodes allow controlling the occurrence of rifts and leaks in the pipeline network. One of the approaches is unconventional and uses inter-correlation between the data acquired from two successive sensor nodes, as well as auto-correlation of temperature data. A simple logic to avoid sending false alarms was also implemented. © 2012 IFAC.

It is well known that the complex system operation requires the use of new scientific tools and computer simulation. This paper presents a modular approach for modeling and analysis of the complex systems (in communication or transport systems area) using Hybrid Petri nets. The performance evaluation of the hybrid model is made by a simulation methodology that allows building up various functioning scenarios. A Decision Support System based on the above mentioned methodologies of modeling and analysis will be designed for performance evaluation and time optimization of large scale communication and/or transport systems. This paper proposes a robust algorithm for detecting interest points based on the NonsubSampled Contourlet Transform (NSCT). The NSCT provides multiscale decomposition with directional filters at each scale. Furthermore, NSCT is very efficient in extracting the geometric information of images and therefore it has very good feature localization. The NSCT-based point detector is compared to the widely used Harris and Difference of Gaussian (DoG) interest point detectors. The experimental results reveal the robustness of the proposed algorithm to rotation, scale and viewpoint changes.

We have previously shown that, with the help of peer-assessment and of a finite-domain constraint-based model of the student's decisions, the teacher could have a complete assessment of the answers to open-ended questions, by grading just a subset of the answers (as low as half of the lot) and having the rest of the grading inferred by the supporting system. In this paper we present a probabilistic version of the earlier model, using Bayesian networks instead than constraints. Our aims are both defining the approach and prepare its validation: 1) modeling the peer-assessment activity of a student that evaluates others' answers, 2) using peer-assessment to help the teacher with a faster/shorter assessment process, 3) inferring the student's level of competence and ability to judge, from peer-assessment and from (partial) teacher-assessment, 4) learning the conditional probabilistic tables (CPTs) of the model from student data, and 5) comparing the probability distribution of competences in the class at different course phases. The model is under development and test with real data. We are developing a web-based interface to deliver open-answer and peer-assessment questionnaires and to assist the teacher-assessment. © 2012 IEEE.
