Development of Logical ERD for Automation of Performance Evaluation Data in Railway Facilities

A performance evaluation system for railroad facilities is being implemented to strengthen safety management and prepare for the continuous aging ofrailroad facilities. By developing a logical ERD (Entity Relationship Diagram) for the implementation of automated railroad facility performance evaluation, we aim to establish an efficient system to predict future performance changes and demands of railroad facilities, enabling timely maintenance and reinforcement of the infrastructure in an efficient manner. The logical ERD is structured with a detailed design applying evaluation method metrics. The evaluation results are calculated by multiplying the evaluation values and the weights of the evaluation items. The system allows for immediate evaluations for all equipment and sections of railway facilities, as well as for evaluation items without modifying the source, and it is designed to easily change the weights to facilitate evaluations. © 2023 Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers. This paper presents a RFID readout portable system aimed at sensing applications. The device is able to read chipless tags based on LC tanks, whose resonance frequency is modified due to a capacitance change caused by the parameter to be measured. A new approach in the reading process is presented based on a PLL which allows higher precision measurements. To test the performance of the designed device a printed and flexible tag has been used, which opens the door to a wide variety of applications where reading printed antennas is a need. © 2023 University of Split, FESB.

We demonstrate a management system that lets a service provider achieve end-to-end management objectives under varying load for applications on a service mesh based on the Istio and Kubernetes platforms. The management objectives for the demonstration include end-to-end delay bounds on service requests, throughput objectives, and service differentiation. Our method for finding effective control policies includes a simulator and a control module. The simulator is instantiated with traces from a testbed, and the control module trains a reinforcement learning (RL) agent to efficiently learn effective control policies on the simulator. The learned policies are then transfered to the testbed to perform dynamic control actions based on monitored system metrics. We show that the learned policies dynamically meet management objectives on the testbed and can be changed on the fly. © 2023 IEEE.

In the economy where trade and finance are closely linked it is essential to accurately identify and authenticate various currencies, especially in industries such, as banking, tourism and retail. Conventional methods, for identifying coins typically require inspections or simple automated processes, which might take up a lot of time and are susceptible, to mistakes. The advancements, in machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) technologies, over the years have revolutionized currency detection providing efficient solutions. This article discusses the evaluation of machine learning and deep learning approaches to identify types of coins. It explores how algorithms, like MobileNetV2, Support Vector Machines (SVM), Random Forest, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN) perform in distinguishing and classifying coin denominations across currencies. The results of experiments conducted on data sets show how these methods compare in terms of accuracy, effectiveness, and reliability. Furthermore, we examine the advantages and constraints of each approach while suggesting directions for advancing research, in the realm of identifying cryptocurrency. © 2024 IEEE.

Prediction of lane-changing maneuvers of surrounding vehicles is important for autonomous vehicles to understand the scene properly. This research proposes a vision-based technique that only requires a single in-car RGB camera. The surrounding vehicles' maneuvers are classified as right/left lane-change or no lane change conforming to most lane change detection studies in the literature. The usual practice in previous studies is feeding individual video frames into CNN to extract features and afterward using an LSTM to classify the sequence of features. Differently, in our study, we exploit the power of ensembling the prediction results of two methods. The first one uses a small feature vector containing the image coordinates of the target vehicle and classifies it with an LSTM. The second method works with a simplified scene representation video (only the target vehicle and ego-lane highlighted) and it is based on a self-supervised contrastive video representation learning scheme. Since maneuver labeling is not required in the self-supervised learning step this enables the use of a relatively large dataset. After the self-supervised training, the model is fine-tuned with a labeled dataset. Our experimental study on a well-known lane change detection dataset reveals that both of the mentioned methods by themselves achieve state-of-the-art results and ensembling them increases the classification accuracy even more. © 2023 IEEE.

Deepfakes, powered by generative adversarial networks (GANs), automate the creation of deceptive videos. To combat this menace, the study assembles an advanced model that fuses ResNeXt, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), and ResNet architectures, renowned for their efficacy in handling visual and temporal aspects, for the detection of deepfakes in audio and video content. Pre-processing, facilitated by a Multi-Task Cascaded-Convolutional Neural Network (MTCNN), accurately extracts facial regions. The model undergoes rigorous evaluation across three key datasets which are, FaceForensics++(FF-DF), Celeb-DF, and Facebook Deepfake Detection Challenge (DFDC), affirming its real-world readiness and exceptional accuracy. The combined models consistently deliver highly precise results, maintaining their robustness against evolving deepfake technologies. © 2023 IEEE.

To improve productivity in small and medium-sized manufacturing businesses, it is necessary to use digital systems. Therefore, we built a system that can detect the shortage of bearing grease. We designed a sensor device that requires no additional work to install to old-type ball screws and an algorithm that can divide collected data into cycle waveforms. Those components allow for analyzing torque difference among cycles. The experiment showed that the proposed system could detect the torque difference between bearing with grease and without grease. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we focus on a deep learning super-resolution method that can apply clear and natural digital zooming to captured images. We considered that a conventional ideal bicubic down-sampling dataset would be limited in the degradation space that could be handled, so we created a dataset by aligning images taken with different magnification lenses, eliminating pair images those were inappropriate for training, and changing the loss function. By using SwinIR in the super-resolution network as a magnification method, we succeeded in generating images those were more natural and sharper than conventional images. © 2023 ACM.

Social media has revolutionized global communication, business contracts, and the diffusion of ideas. However, there are several potential drawbacks to this, including the spread of false information, data breaches, identity fraud, effective content monitoring, and digital piracy. Using blockchain protocols and Web3 philosophies, it is possible to protect data privacy, data security, and fraudulent identities. By replacing traditional email/name-password authentication with Metamask authentication, user privacy is strengthened. Storing application media on the Ethereum blockchain, a proof-of-concept for application data can be established, thereby preventing data breaches. According to our research results, blockchain technology has the potential to provide tamper resistance, traceability, and transparency. As a result, this proposed research provides a social media platform that is truly decentralized and built on a network, enhancing its users' privacy. © 2023 IEEE.

Industry 4.0 is expanding in manufacturing. With digital technology, manufacturing lines are expected to become more efficient. This research aims to collect the activity status of Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs) on the production line and compare it with simulation results by FlexSim. We analyzed the activity status of the AGVs by attaching beacons to the AGV and the parts carrier vehicles AGV carry and collecting their positions of them. As a result, we confirmed that the activity status is similar to the simulation results and demonstrated that our proposal benefits AGVs tracking. © 2023 IEEE.
