In the post-pandemic era, online learning has become a prevalent mode of education. To ensure effective monitoring of learners' engagement in online courses, this study proposes a novel method for real-time monitoring of learners' learning focus. It is divided into three main components: The first component is eye detection. We utilize Dlib technology and leverage pre-trained facial landmark detection to accurately identify the positions of the eyes. Through image processing and the application of appropriate thresholds (thresholds set above 190), this enables precise outlining of eye contours and recognition of eye movement characteristics, even during rapid eye movements or from varying angles. The second component is gaze estimation. By using adaptive thresholds for pupil segmentation and applying erosion and dilation to reduce image noise and enhance essential features, we can effectively determine pupil positions within images taken under varying photographic resolutions and lighting conditions. Angle calculation is subsequently employed to determine whether learners are concentrating on online learning courses. The third component involves an anti-cheating mechanism. By utilizing pupil-centered corneal reflex (PCCR) technology to address potential cheating behaviors of learners, an anti-cheating mechanism is proposed to detect and counter fraudulent tactics such as photos and makeup. Experimental results demonstrate that this study is capable of effectively monitoring learners' learning status and accurately determining whether learners exhibit appropriate learning attitudes and behaviors. This empowers a comprehensive assessment of learners' learning outcomes during the period of online learning. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper describes a high-speed and a high-accuracy optical position sensor that detects the positions of plural light spots illuminated by various types of light sources, such as light-emitted diode and laser diode. The applications using these systems usually require the measurement performance to be fast, of high accuracy and capable of simultaneously detecting plural points. Moreover, the applications should have some intelligence function, such as the adaptation of the detection procedure to the environment being measured. Here, we designed a new sensor system using an optical 2-D sensor array, an analog parallel scan circuit and a neural network implemented on a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), which satisfied the abovementioned requirements. The experiment results with the prototype sensor system were as follows: (1) The relative error was at most 1.4%;(2) The sampling frequency was about 20kHz;and (3) The sensor system reduced the influence of background light on the position detection by the neural network. © 2009 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

Watkins' Q-learning is the most popular and an e_ective model-free method. However, comparing model-based approach, Q-learning with various exploration strategies require a large number of trial-and- error interactions for _nding an optimal policy. To overcome this draw- back, we propose a new model-based learning method extending Q- learning. This method has separated EI and ER functions for learning exploitation-based and exploration-based model, respectively. EI func- tion based on statistics indicates the best action. The another ER func- tion based on the information of exploration leads the learner to well- unknown region in the global state space by backing up in each step. Then, we introduce a new criterion as the information of exploration. Using combined these function, we can effectively proceed exploitation and exploration strategies and can select an action which considers each strategy simultaneously. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2000.

This paper presents a method of extracting shape information from clipart images, then measuring the similarity between different clipart images using the extracted shape information. To represent the shape of clipart images, the proposed method expresses the convex and concave aspects of an outline using the ratio of a rectangle. The shape outline us then expressed using a rectangle representation and converted into a chain code. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed method is superior in expressing shape information than previous outline-based feature methods. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.

This paper presents a method of extracting shape and color information from clipart images, then measuring the similarity between different clipart images using the extracted shape and color information. To represent the shape of clipart images, the proposed method expresses the convex and concave aspects of an outline using the ratio of a rectangle. The shape outline is then expressed using a rectangle representation and converted into a chain code. Meanwhile, the color is represented by color values quantized into HSV color coordinate, the location information between the color regions, and the size of the color regions. These color information can more appropriate for representing clipart images, which have a smaller number of colors than nature images. Experimental results showed that the proposed method is superior in expressing shape and color information than previous methods. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.

Internet of Vehicle (IoV) is a combined form of Internet of Things (IoT) and Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET). Its fundamental goal is to increase the service quality of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS). The dynamic nature of IoV such as high dynamic topology, high mobility of vehicles, etc. are some of the factors that causes more congestion thus reducing the efficiency of routing. Many algorithms were designed to obtain the shortest path from the source to the destination. Choosing of Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm is one of the best ways to obtain the shortest path. In this paper, an Enhanced Ant Colony Optimization with Dynamic Evaporation rate (EACODE) algorithm is proposed to obtain the congestion-free optimized path which reduces the travel time, travel cost and traffic problems. Instead of fixed evaporation rate, it dynamic predicts the pheromone evaporation rate with the help of run time metrics to avoid the congested paths thus improving the efficiency of the travel. The simulation results show that the proposed EACO-DE algorithm improves the efficiency of the routing compared with primitive Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm and Enhanced Hybrid Ant Colony Optimization Routing Protocol (EHACORP) under various performance metrics. © 2023 IEEE.

Understanding spatial hearing leads to implement efficient and effective auralization rendering algorithms with headphones. Two important aspects contribute to sound localization: (i) acoustic filtering of listener body, and (ii) non-acoustic factors introduced by auditory periphery. Accordingly, head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) describe users acoustics in terms of their spatial filtering. Binaural synthesis through generic HRTFs (commonly a dummy head) is the most simple solution for an auralization framework. In this scenario, a high variability in localization tasks between subjects yields to an unreliable rendering. Listener's acoustic and perceptual characterization require HRTF modeling and auditory models predictions in order to provide an effective auralization on individual basis. Systemic comparisons of HRTF approximations and different user profiles can help to predict listener's performances. We consider a case study on both vertical and horizontal localization with different HRTFs and two probabilistic auditory models. In our analysis, spatial audio rendering with non-individual HRTFs has a special attention for its commercial relevance compared to unpractical and questionable use of individual HRTFs. © 2019 Proceedings of the International Congress on Acoustics. In science learning, cognitive concepts that are distinguished for the complexity of their structure and operation can be understood by using successful metaphors. Conventional instruction is ineffective in dealing with misconceptions. We propose a semantic learning interventions management system that utilizes web services technology. The proposed system aims to be an integrated educational solution that offers interoperable, web service-based, cross-platform learning services. It extends the available educational logic and content by publishing and consuming educational web services. Additionally, the combination of Web Services and Semantic Web offers sophisticated capabilities including automated discovery, composition, invocation, and monitoring.
