This work presents the study and development of a high-gain hybrid DC-DC converter with switched capacitor for photovoltaic energy applications. Qualitative analyzes and quantitative values of the converter are proposed. The proposed converter is based on the converter boost integrated into switched capacitive cells with the addition of a small inductor resonant. A mathematical modeling of the converter was developed to determine the value of the resonant inductance, where the converter was analyzed for inductance values of 1uH at 2uH. This proposal presented some advantages: such as extended static gain, reduction of voltage stress in semiconductors and reduction of current peaks in switches. A 200 W prototype was developed and its respective results are presented. Maximum efficiency obtained was 97.1% for a voltage gain of 10. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper describes the application of a Parallel Genetic Algorithm that solves the weekly timetable construction problem for elementary schools. Timetable construction is NPcomplete and highly constrained problem, and therefore represents a computationally intensive task. A Parallel Genetic Algorithm (PGA) is proposed with specific methods for chromosome representation and fitness evaluation, and specific recombination and mutation operators. The proposed solution uses a coarse grained PGA, which is suitable for execution on a Beowulf cluster. Experimental results are provided, with a comparison of serial and parallel execution times for the same algorithm. ©2009 IEEE.

In the Model Predictive control (MPC) framework a controller is computed using a finite horizon optimal control cost. When linear constraints are imposed on the system with a quadratic cost function, then the MPC problem can be reformulated as a constrained quadratic programming (QP) problem. In this paper active set methods are used in order to solve the QP problem associated with MPC, and it is shown that it is possible to use information from the previous sample interval in order to provide improved initial conditions for the QP problem which is applied to the subsequent sample interval. Simulations show that when real-time considerations force the used of suboptimal intermediate control values, then improved initial conditions can allow for control values which are closer to the true optimal solution than obtained when using standard initial conditions. These ideas can allow for the implementation of MPC schemes on a greater number of real industrial applications, where standard MPC control cannot be applied due to the excessive CPU time requirements. © 2005 IEEE.

This study develops and implements a SoC-based HW/SW (Hardware-Software) codesign for an intelligent diagnostic system. To improve the efficiency of the VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) design process, the components of the intelligent diagnostic system are designed in the form of SIP (Silicon Intellectual Property) modules. The SIP modules, including the CPU module, the GPIO (General Purpose I/O) module and the NN (Neural Network) module, are then integrated to form the complete intelligent diagnostic system. In constructing the system, an embedded processor is employed to run software programs. In addition to integrating the hardware architecture, this study also develops application software, comprising a bootloader, a UARTcomm module and a main program for human machine interface, to drive the embedded processor. The SoC-based HW/SW codesign method employed in this study increases the efficiency of the system design process and reduces the rebuild time. The results of the experimental trials verify the successful performance of the developed intelligent diagnostic system. © 2010 IEEE.

Most of embedded cross compiler tools are cross-compilers based on glibc and Linux kernel in the form of ARCH-Hnux-*. They are mainly for Linux operating system, depending on specified C language library glibc, and also need the support of MMU. Object mes made by the compHer have more memory space. This paper presents a general method of constructing embedded cross compiler tool with newlib library. It constructs a cross compile toolchain with ARCH-elf-*, which is independent of specific operating system, C language library and the support of MMU. This method allows it to build arm, ppc and mips 64 cross compiler tool with the characteristics of configurat ion more flexibility, higher speed, transplantation more convenience and less memory space. ©2010 IEEE.

We have previously shown that, with the help of peer-assessment and of a finite-domain constraint-based model of the student's decisions, the teacher could have a complete assessment of the answers to open-ended questions, by grading just a subset of the answers (as low as half of the lot) and having the rest of the grading inferred by the supporting system. In this paper we present a probabilistic version of the earlier model, using Bayesian networks instead than constraints. Our aims are both defining the approach and prepare its validation: 1) modeling the peer-assessment activity of a student that evaluates others' answers, 2) using peer-assessment to help the teacher with a faster/shorter assessment process, 3) inferring the student's level of competence and ability to judge, from peer-assessment and from (partial) teacher-assessment, 4) learning the conditional probabilistic tables (CPTs) of the model from student data, and 5) comparing the probability distribution of competences in the class at different course phases. The model is under development and test with real data. We are developing a web-based interface to deliver open-answer and peer-assessment questionnaires and to assist the teacher-assessment. © 2012 IEEE.

In this paper, a novel nonlinear current-limiting controller that maintains the desired power balance in a hybrid microgrid, is proposed for interlinking converters (ICs). The RMS value of the IC current is analytically proven to remain below a desired maximum value at all times using nonlinear ultimate boundedness theory, without limiting separately the d- and q-axis current components and without using adaptive saturation units, as done in conventional approaches. Furthermore, the stability of the closed loop system is investigated through root locus analysis for different values of the controller gain. Finally, the performance of the proposed control scheme is validated through detailed simulation results of an interlinking converter connected to both an AC and a DC subgrid. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents an easily implementable load control strategy aimed at managing shiftable loads in residential buildings, possibly equipped also with centralized storage and generation facilities. The algorithm is compliant with the KNX standard for communication of smart home devices, and ensures the controlled reduction of power peak profiles. Simulation results are discussed in details, comparing the achieved performances with the ones attainable by more complicated benchmark algorithms present in literature, and also giving a first assessment of the return on the investments needed to implement the proposed load control architecture. © 2015 IEEE.

Large-scale variable pitch wind turbine generator (WTG) system usually uses the PID controller to maintain the output power unchanged above the rated wind speed. Because WTG has the characteristic of inertia and delay and the wind speed varies randomly, the simple feedback control method such as PID controller can hardly achieve satisfactory performance. This paper firstly analyzes the shortcomings of PID controller, and then a new pitch control method combined with nonlinear feed forward controller and PID controller is proposed. At high wind speed range, there is nonlinear relationship between pitch angle and wind speed due to the aerodynamic characteristic of the rotor. This paper obtains this relationship with numerical calculation and least square polynomial fit method. Then the nonlinear model is used to design the feed forward controller. Its input is wind speed and the output is the increasing feed forward reference pitch angle. The feed forward controller has achieved the dynamic feed forward compensation and improved the rapidness of control system. With the simulation of a 300kW wind turbine generator at different wind speed, the new pitch control strategy can effectively reduce system's overshoot and regulation time, and has a satisfactory control performance. © 2010 IEEE.

This paper presents two modern modulation techniques applied to three phase inverters from a hardware implementation point of view. The considered techniques are the sinusoidal pulse width modulation with zero sequence injection and the space vector modulation. Both these techniques conduct to the same result regarding supply voltage usage efficiency and harmonic content of the resulted signals. The implementation was developed in Matlab-Simulink using the System Generator software, and validated through simulation. Both the modulation algorithms were implemented in hardware on a low cost FPGA, and the resulted designs are compared for resource usage efficiency, obtained speed and easiness of integration within a complex AC drive control system. © 2013 IEEE.
