Modern automobiles are, among other things, sophisticated local area networks connecting multiple embedded computers. It is not rare for vehicles to be communications hubs with multiple wireless connections. Wireless connections may be with other vehicles, local infrastructure, or corporate servers. Some high profile research into the information security of automotive applications has been done. This research has been piece-meal, looking for vulnerabilities in specific implementations of isolated applications. Although most of this work concentrates on car theft, modern automotive systems are subject to a much wider range of potential abuses. We use the term automotive system to be inclusive, since, in addition to the automobile itself, applications like VANETs (ex. vehicle ad hoc networks), and online services (ex. On-Star, remote diagnostics) are subject to compromise. In this work, we consider the automotive system stakeholders and assets they need to protect. We use this security information to help map the automotive security research literature onto the taxonomy CERT uses to describe on-line security incidents, in order to find which threats are not being adequately addressed. The objective of this paper is to present a graphical-user-interface (GUI) in support of a decision support system (KASER) for machine understanding. In order to provide information between the user and the KASER during the learning process, the approach is to combine information science and cognitive science in the form of several virtual and physical multimedia screens (e.g., a whiteboard running a pen-based OS ensemble, a menu-driven touch-screen, or a multimedia output screen). The touch-screen will also facilitate navigation between virtual screens. An application to homeland security is provided as an example;however the approach has vast applicability to many problems in which a graphical form of learning is required. The integration between human and machine is to be seamless which allows the user to pose questions and retrieve answers through the multimedia system, thus accelerating the learning process.

A novel yield prediction calculation method for individual arrangements of tailored devices in nonideal nanoscale process technologies is presented. Two typical analog application examples based on resistor strings using normal distributed unit resistors (matched pairs, linear data converters) are discussed. An analytic yield-over-tolerance function is determined by mean value, standard deviation and correlation matrix of the used unit resistors. Background mathematics is illustrated and a comparison to corresponding Monte Carlo simulation is given. A 4096-step potentiometer Digital-to-Analog-Converter has been fabricated using a 65nm CMOS process to verify assumed distribution functions and prediction accuracy.

We study the amorphous In-Ga-Zn-0 thin-film transistors (TFTs) properties under monochromatic illumination (λ=420nm) with different intensity. TFT off-state drain current (IDS-off) was found to increase with the light intensity while field effect mobility (μeff) is almost unchanged;only small change was observed for sub-threshold swing (S). Due to photo-generated charge trapping, a negative threshold voltage (Vth) shift is also observed. The photofield-effect analysis suggests a highly efficient UV photocurrent conversion in a-IGZO TFT. Finally, a-IGZO mid-gap density-of-states (DOS) was extracted and is more than an order lower than reported value for a-Si:H, which can explain a good switching properties of the a-IGZO TFTs.

Impedance biosensors detect the binding of a target to an immobilized probe by quantifying changes in the impedance of the electrode-electrolyte interface. The interface's I–V relationship is inherently nonlinear, varying with DC bias, and target binding can alter the degree of nonlinearity. We propose and demonstrate a method to simultaneously measure the nonlinearity and conventional small-signal impedance using intermodulation products from a two-tone input. Intermodulation amplitudes accurately reflect the impedance's manually-measured voltage dependence. We demonstrate that changes in nonlinearity can discriminate protein binding. Our measurements suggest that target binding can alter nonlinearity via the voltage dependence of the ionic double layer.

In many industrial processes, the first order plus time delay (FOPDT) is still being widely used. FOPDT systems are also called “KLT systems (gain, delay, and time constant).” Considering uncertainties in the time delay, this paper attempts to answer this research question: “ Will a fractional order controller help and do better? “ In this paper, we first focus on fractional order proportional and integral controller (FOPI) for varying time-delay systems. Based on our previously proposed FOPI controller tuning rules using fractional M s constrained integral gain optimization (F-MIGO), we tried to simultaneously maximize the jitter margin and ITAE performance (minimize ITAE performance index) for a set of hundred KLT systems having different time-constants and time-delay values. We observed that the optimization results in enlarged jitter margin of all systems at expense of a slight decrease in ITAE performance of delay dominated systems. Further, the F-MIGO optimization based tuning rules were summarized by approximation of optimized gain parameters and fractional orders α of the FOPI controller. Simulation results are presented to verify the proposed new tuning rules for best jitter margin and ITAE performance.

By applying a double layered EB resist containing C 60 , we could form fine vertical shaped rectangular Si wire waveguide on silicon on insurator (SOI) by parallel plate reactive-ion-etching (RIE). The propagation loss of single-mode Si wire waveguide for TE mode was obtained to be 4.5 dB/cm at 1550 nm, which is the lowest value for those fabricated by parallel plate RIE.
