Ad hoc networks are characterized by dynamic topology caused by node mobility, multihop wireless connectivity and channel non-deterministic behavior (interference, multipath, hidden and exposed node problem make the wireless channel very difficult to predict). The behavior of ad hoc networks must be analyzed in detail as a result of the pairing of the selected MAC and routing protocols. We focus our studies in the routing layer while closely observing the developments in MAC layer. We present and examine the characteristics of a new hybrid adaptive routing protocol based on the ZRP protocol.

The superconducting magnetic levitation (maglev) system under development in Japan uses a linear synchronous motor (LSM) with armature coils on the ground. The power converter driving the LSM should be able to generate power of variable voltage and frequency according to the speed and thrust of the train. Therefore, we adopted a pulse width modulation (PWM) inverter on the Yamanashi Maglev Test .Line. For power conversion the maglev system requires highly efficient large-scale PWM inverters. In addition, manufacturing costs had to be reduced, so we developed several control methods to enhance the output voltages of the inverter without changing its circuit configuration. This paper describes the characteristics and some results from experiments involving these control methods.

The transport of quantum dots (QDs) in a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) nano-wire transistors at lower temperature was investigated. The transistor was fabricated on a boron-doped separation-by-implanted oxygen SOI wafer. SOI film was patterned by electron beam and reactive ion etching to define a narrow channel. The independent branching of Coulomb oscillations and overlapping Coulomb diamonds suggested that there were two parallel active QDs. The transport at low temperature showed typical characteristics of two parallel QDs. The spectrum of dID/dVDS of the QDs evidenced the tunneling through the tunnel junction between the two QDS.

Effective training is essential for human teleoperators to deliver satisfactory performance in actual tasks. Teleoperation is naturally a very difficult task due to the absence of naked-eye vision that cripples the cognitive behavior of the remote operator. Camera vision somehow is not a satisfactory substitution. However, training with naked-eye vision feedback may help human teleoperators to learn how to deliver satisfactory performance when they actually interact with camera vision. This study was carried out to further investigate this hypothesis, and to quantitatively supplement it with experimental proofs. For this cause, the recently built telerobotic test-bed between KAIST (Korea) and Saga University(Japan) was reshaped to a telerobotic mini-golf system, which is the trial experiment in this study. The performance of the players with and without naked-eye training was compared and quantitatively evaluated. The effectiveness of training with naked-eye vision was verified as an essential part in training human teleoperators.

In this paper, we propose a new method for active net model. The active net is a lattice network model that is based on minimizing energy to extract the region of a target object. In a conventional method, only one target is detected by one net. Therefore, assuming that the image can be divided into some parts, the proposed method uses many nets and applies them to each divided image. Some simulation results are presented obtained by applying the proposed method to images. In the proposed method, since the size of a net becomes small, the processing time to one net can be shortened. Furthermore, since the distance between lattice points is short in the initial net, the target at the end of an image becomes detectable. That is, it means that the target detection performance has improved.
