This paper presents a method for analyzing irregular shaped power distribution networks both in the frequency and time domain for mixed signal applications. Using a two dimensional array of distributed RLCG circuits, the impedances of a power/ground plane pair are computed. For the efficient computation of the power distribution impedances at specific points in the network, a multiinput and multi-output transmission matrix method has been used. This method is 7X-13X faster than SPICE and saves memory requirements.

We present the design and modeling of an intelligent modular switching architecture, designated MSA, for packet transport over next-generation ultra-dense wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) networks. The proposed architecture reduces the electronic processing overhead in sending the packets from source to destination. This is achieved by sending routing/forwarding information on a dedicated control channel. The control packets are processed electronically by a control processor at each intermediate node. The processing of control packets ensures that the data packets propagate from source to destination in photonic form (that is, without any processing by intermediate nodes). Due to the flexible nature of the proposed architecture it can be applied to support opaque optical networks to all-optical networks and can be used to transport IP/MPLS and ATM traffic. The performance evaluation of the proposed switching architecture shows that it drastically reduces the electronic processing overhead. Saving in the processing overhead can leverage bandwidth utilization without increasing the hardware gear cost. Furthermore, a large saving in terms of electrical-to-optical (E/O) and optical-to-electrical (O/E) converters cost per node can also be achieved.

For some important network management applications, e.g., MIB browsing, there is a need to traverse portions of an MIB tree, especially tables, in both directions. While the GetNext request defined by the SNMP standard allows an easy and fast access to the next columnar object instance or the next scalar object, there is no corresponding operator in the SNMP framework for retrieving the previous MIB object instance. This allows an efficient MIB traversal only in one direction and makes the search in the reverse direction problematic. This paper presents SNMP GetPrev a tool that substantially optimizes retrieval of the previous instances of a columnar objects or scalar MIB objects. Our GetPrev application uses only standard SNMP GetNext and Get requests to carry on a fast and bandwidth efficient search for the required object instance. As we show, our application is two orders of magnitude faster and two to three orders of magnitude less bandwidth consuming when compared to the more traditional approaches.

This paper proposes a self-organizing control strategy of a signal network for urban traffic flows. The signal network is described using a system of nonlinear oscillators with the nearest neighborhood coupling. The natural frequency, split and coupling constants of the signals are adjusted dynamically according to local information of traffic flows so that the desired network offset patterns are self-organized through mutual entrainment. We provide a preliminary analysis of the coupled oscillator system. Numerical simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method under dynamical environmental changes.

Although fuzzy systems demonstrated their ability to solve different kinds of problems in various applications, there is an increasing interest on augmenting them with learning capabilities. Two of the most successful approaches to hybridise fuzzy systems with adaptation methods have been made in the realm of soft computing: neuro-fuzzy systems and genetic fuzzy systems hybridise the approximate reasoning method of fuzzy systems with the learning capabilities of neural networks and evolutionary algorithms.
