Most places in the world have seen rapid increases in the need for power. It is essential to look for alternatives and energy-saving technologies because traditional fossil fuel power plants emit pollution in addition to the electricity they produce. This work considers a multi-generational heating system with the hybrid Electric/Solar Water Heaters (ESWHs) to replace electric water heaters (EWH)by combining the ESWH with an Aluminum reflector. This work experimental discusses the performance of the ESWH and the influence of placing a reflector plate underneath the evacuated tubes in Baghdad-Iraq. A test procedure to heat the water to a specified heating temperature over the whole day period was conducted to analyze the daily power consumption profile of the system. Four operational scenarios have been conducted including the mode;the ESWH as a solar water heater, ESWH as an electric water heater, ESWH without a reflector, and ESWH with a reflector plate. The experimental analysis confirmed that the presented multi-generational heating configuration could contribute to energy sustainably. The developed multi-generational heating system achieved an improvement in annual energy consumption of 15.4% over the hybrid electric/solar water heater and 46.2% over the traditional electrical water heater. © 2023, The Authors. This paper presents an innovative approach to DevOps security education, addressing the dynamic landscape of cybersecurity threats. We propose a student-centered learning methodology by developing comprehensive hands-on learning modules. Specifically, we introduce labware modules designed to automate static security analysis, empowering learners to identify known vulnerabilities efficiently. These modules offer a structured learning experience with pre-lab, hands-on, and post-lab sections, guiding students through DevOps concepts and security challenges. In this paper, we introduce hands-on learning modules that familiarize students with recognizing known security flaws through the application of Git Hooks. Through prac-tical exercises with real-world code examples containing security flaws, students gain proficiency in detecting vulnerabilities using relevant tools. Initial evaluations conducted across educational institutions indicate that these hands-on modules foster student interest in software security and cybersecurity and equip them with practical skills to address DevOps security vulnerabilities.

Extreme weather events have posed tremendous challenges to the operation of distribution networks. In this paper, we propose a decision-dependent chance-constrained model for the optimal planning of diesel generators, renewable distributed generations (RDGs), energy storage systems, and switches under contingency. A promising moment-based ambiguity set that incorporates the information of decision variables is employed to depict the uncertainty arising from RDGs. By leveraging effective approximation methods such as the Bonferroni approximation method to handle the considered joint chance constraints, the proposed model is transformed into a tractable mixed-integer second-order conic programming problem, which means it can easily be implemented. Numerical experiments are put forward on the IEEE 33-bus test system to validate the effectiveness of the developed approach.

Addressing water scarcity challenges in arid regions is a pressing concern and demands innovative solutions for accurate groundwater potential mapping (GPM). This study presents a comprehensive evaluation of advanced modeling techniques to enhance the precision of GPM. This study, conducted in the Zayandeh Rood watershed, Iran, employed a spatial database comprising 16 influential factors on groundwater potential and data from 175 wells. This study introduced an innovative approach to GPM by enhancing the Random Forest (RF) algorithm. This enhancement involved integrating three metaheuristic algorithms inspired by human behavior: ICA (Imperialist Competitive Algorithm), TLBO (Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization), and SBO (Student Psychology Based Optimization). The modeling process used 70% training data and 30% evaluation data. Data preprocessing was performed using the multicollinearity test method and frequency ratio (FR) technique to refine the dataset. Subsequently, the GPM was generated using four distinct models, demonstrating the combined power of machine learning and human-inspired metaheuristic algorithms. The performance of the models was systematically assessed through extensive statistical analyses, including root mean squared error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), area under the curve (AUC) for the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC), Friedman tests, chi-squared tests, and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. RF-ICA and RF-SPBO emerged as frontrunners, displaying statistically comparable accuracy and significantly outperforming RF-TLBO and the non-optimized RF model. The results of the GPM revealed the exceptional accuracy of RF-ICA, which exhibited a commanding AUC score of 0.865, underscoring its superiority in discriminating between different groundwater potential classes. We present efforts to encourage the adoption of modules for teaching heterogeneous parallel computing through a faculty development workshop. The workshop was held remotely using a novel format to exploit the advantages of a virtual format and mitigate its disadvantages. Adoption at a wide variety of institutions showed module effectiveness and also gathered feedback leading to several module improvements. We also report on the adoptions themselves, which show the importance of supporting adaptation of the modules for diverse settings.

This work reports results of laser beam profile measurements, performed for earlier on designed and successfully fabricated silica few-mode microstructured optical fiber (MOF) with hollow-GeO2-doped-ring core (HRC). We compared two drawn from the same preform HRC MOF samples without and with induced during the drawing process twisting of 790 revolutions per meter. Researched silica HRC MOF with outer diameter 65 µm contains hollow ring-core inner diameter of 30.5 µm with wall thickness of 1.7 µm and refractive index difference Δn = 0.03;90 air holes, placed over typical hexagonal geometry in the periphery domain from the outside HRC at the distance 14 µm, with hole averaged diameter 2.5 µm and pitch 7.5 µm. According to simulation results (mode analysis, performed by rigorous finite element method via commercially available software COMSOL Multiphysics®), it supports two guided LP-modes (fundamental LP01 and the first higher-order LP11) or 4 HE/EH odd and even eigenmodes – HE11/EH11 and HE21/EH21, respectively. We present some results of laser beam profile measurements, performed under various launching conditions (different laser sources as well as excited optical fibers (both commercially available singlemode optical fiber of ITU-T Rec. G.652 and multimode optical fiber 50/125 of ISO/IEC Cat. OM2+/OM3)) at the output ends of researched HRC MOF twisted and untwisted samples as well as at the output end of large core multimode optical fiber 100/125, aligned with excited HRC MOF. © 2024 SPIE.

In multi-capacity ridesharing, multiple requests (e.g., customers, food items, parcels) with different origin and destination pairs travel in one resource. In recent years, online multi-capacity ridesharing services (i.e., where assignments are made online) like Uber-pool, foodpanda, and on-demand shuttles have become hugely popular in transportation, food delivery, logistics and other domains. This is because multi-capacity ridesharing services benefit all parties involved - the customers (due to lower costs), the drivers (due to higher revenues) and the matching platforms (due to higher revenues per vehicle/resource). Most importantly these services can also help reduce carbon emissions (due to fewer vehicles on roads). Online multi-capacity ridesharing is extremely challenging as the underlying matching graph is no longer bipartite (as in the unit-capacity case) but a tripartite graph with resources (e.g., taxis, cars), requests and request groups (combinations of requests that can travel together). The desired matching between resources and request groups is constrained by the edges between requests and request groups in this tripartite graph (i.e., a request can be part of at most one request group in the final assignment). While there have been myopic heuristic approaches employed for solving the online multi-capacity ridesharing problem, they do not provide any guarantees on the solution quality. To that end, this paper presents the first approach with bounds on the competitive ratio for online multi-capacity ridesharing (when resources rejoin the system at their initial location/depot after serving a group of requests). The competitive ratio is: (i) 0.31767 for capacity 2;and (ii) γ for any general capacity κ, where γ is a solution to the equation γ = (1 − γ )κ+1 © 2020 International Foundation for Autonomous.

One major goal of digital twin technology applied in the Architecture, engineering, and Construction (AEC) Industry is the mapping of roads and road environments with their associated information. Such digital twins can support cost-effective testing, simulations, and the production of mapping backgrounds for automated vehicles and generally for Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) developments. The efficient workflow that leads from data acquisition to finished products depends on a number of requirements and knowledge sets. The main contribution of the paper is a general methodology of creating HD-map from point cloud and image data set. Accordingly, the most widely used survey techniques are presented and the requirements for the objects to be derived are summarized. The paper then outlines a general implementation procedure as an expert knowledge through a real-life example, where the results obtained for the ZalaZONE Automotive Proving Ground are demonstrated.

Accurate assessment of the power generation capacity of the wind farm is the key basis for incorporating it into power system scheduling and other optimizing operation activities. Traditional evaluation methods, such as benchmarking wind turbine method, have higher requirements for input data, but many wind farms in operation for many years are difficult to meet such data conditions. A new power generation capacity evaluation method based on correlation analysis of adjacent wind farms is proposed in this paper. Meteorological data and power of adjacent wind farms are used as replaced input data based on correlation analysis between the target farm with its adjacent farms. First, anticipate wind speed data and then construct the wind power curve with three different neural networks to evaluate power generation capacity. Afterwards, adjacent wind farms are used as data sources to fit the power data of the target wind farm with the application of influence radius method, inverse square distance method and bilinear interpolation method. Finally, combined with data in the actual case, investigate the advantages and disadvantages of different methods in the evaluation of power generation capacity. © 2021 IEEE.
