Kidney disorders are a major public health issue affecting millions worldwide. Renal calculi and cancer are prevalent, causing chronic kidney disease(CKD). Artificial intelligence can assist in the precise diagnosis of kidney *** developed an end-to-end system using a custom CNN model to extract informative features from kidney images. Multiple ML classifiers provide complementary perspectives. A High-Performance Filter(HPF) selects the top classifiers for an ensemble model. The interactive web interface enables real-time prediction. Our approach achieves excellent performance metrics with an accuracy of 99.98%. Overall, We demonstrate an automated system combining deep learning and ensembling for the accurate characterization of diverse kidney abnormalities, which can aid in the early detection and treatment of CKD. © 2024 IEEE.

Study on Lithium-ion Battery SOH Estimation Based on Incremental Capacity Analysis and Deep Learning

Lithium-ion batteries are being utilized as energy sources for electric vehicles due to their advantages such as high energy density, long life, and high efficiency. In order to ensure the safe condition of lithium-ion batteries under various driving conditions of electric vehicles, it is necessary to analyze the degradation status and causes of lithium-ion batteries and accurately estimate their state of health (SOH). Therefore, this paper proposes a method for estimating the SOH of lithium-ion batteries using incremental capacity analysis and deep learning. Incremental capacity analysis is a technique that analyzes the electrochemical state inside a lithium-ion battery and can identify the degradation state of the battery. Through this method, parameters related to degradation were extracted, and their usefulness as characteristic parameters for SOH estimation was verified by correlation analysis. The characteristic parameters validated through correlation analysis were used as inputs to deep learning algorithms for SOH estimation to compare the accuracy of SOH estimation by different estimation algorithms. © 2024 Korean Institute of electrical Engineers. A Study on Operation Method of Protection Coordination in Community Micro-Grid System Considering Self Energy Supply Rate

Recently, while the installations of renewable energy sources and MG system to solve global environment issues are actively being performed, demonstration projects on community MG system to secure self-energy supply rate are being carried out in Jeollanam-do province in Korea. Where, the community MG system can be operated as a type of grid-connected or off-grid MG systems depending on the self-energy supply rate, and the power outage region may be expanded in the 3-phase short circuit or single line ground fault if proper time intervals of protection coordination between forward and backup protection devices is not secured. Therefore, this paper proposes operation method of protection coordination to secure the minimum time intervals of protection coordination not only between protection devices(CB, recloser) in primary feeder and MG customer relay in the grid-connected MG system, but also between MG customer relay in CVCF inverter(diesel generator) and other MG customer relay in the off-grid MG system. Furthermore, this paper performs the modeling of grid-connected and off-grid community MG systems, which is composed of distribution system, ESS, PV system and geothermal generator, using PSCAD/EMTDC S/W in order to analyze the fault current characteristics in the case of 3-phase short circuit and single line ground faults. From the simulation results based on the fault current characteristics and Off-DAS S/W of protection coordination analysis program, it is confirmed that the proposed operation method is useful tool to operate community MG system because the time intervals of protection coordination between forward and backup protection devices are properly secured in all contingency scenarios. A Study on Scalar Control of a Synchronous Motor Considering Stator Resistance

In conventional constant V/f control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor, it is well known that maximum torque at a given frequency remains constant in spite of change of frequency. However, maximum torque at a given frequency does not remain constant as frequency varies since stator resistance is neglected. This paper shows that the maximum torque of conventional constant V/f control decreases as frequency decreases. In the proposed method, a voltage for scalar control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor considering stator resistance is presented and it is shown that maximum torque at a given frequency remains constant in spite of change of frequency. In simulation results, it is shown that speed control under load is not achieved by constant V/f control because of the decrease of torque level as frequency decreases. In addition, it is shown that motor starting is achieved under load and speed is regulated with the change of load torque in the proposed method. Further, it is also seen that speed reversal operation is achieved in the proposed method. Copyright © The Korean Institute of electrical Engineers.

Safety Evaluation Method Considering Operation Environments and Applications in ESS

Recently, fire accidents in ESS installed for various applications have been occurred constantly and particularly those of long time operated ESS have been increased. Accordingly, researches are actively conducted on risk factor evaluations considering safety standards in ESS, and operation environments and applications of ESS are evaluated as major causes of fires and potential battery safety. Therefore, this paper proposes a risk priority number evaluation method composed of severity, occurrence and detection degrees, to estimate the safety level of ESS considering operation environments and applications. Where, the severity degree is quantitatively calculated by fault cases impact of applications, magnitude of fault current and building type of ESS, and the occurrence is determined by accident rates, operation environments and degradation rates, and also the detection is estimated with engineering technology of safety devices and battery capacity. This paper also performs the modeling of the fault analysis in ESS, which is composed of distribution system, customer load, fault devices and ESS in order to evaluate fault cases based on ESS applications. From the simulation results based on the proposed safety evaluation method, it is confirmed that frequency regulation and renewable energy applications in ESS mainly installed in mountain and coast areas is adversely affected by environment factors such as dust and humidity, and detailed measures related with continuous monitoring for operation environments are strongly required to ensure the safety in ESS. This paper proposes a 7th order interdigital band-pass filter using LTCC technology to achieve miniaturization and S-band pass characteristics. To eliminate harmonics, the proposed structure includes vias placed at 1mm intervals around the edges, which not only suppress harmonic components but also improve frequency selectivity. The proposed filter implements a broadband filter with a center frequency of 3GHz and a bandwidth of 2GHz. The implemented filter has an insertion loss of -0.79dB and a return loss of -29.42dB in the specified frequency band, and it is miniaturized to a size of 13.5 × 7 × 1.45 [mm3]. © The Korean Institute of electrical Engineers.

During the pandemic, we must maintain our body's immunity at best. Outdoor activities have been closed;therefore, there are limitations to activities that can be done. A solution to staying healthy during the pandemic is indoor exercise. One type of indoor exercise is regularly riding stationary bikes. We maintain the body's fitness and burn calories by riding stationary bikes. However, some stationary bikes could not show accurate calories burned;they calculated it only based on speed, resistance, and duration, so people with different weights seem to burn the same amount of calories. Therefore, this paper proposed an additional parameter essential in calorie burning: body weight. We used the human body pose estimator to detect the activity of riding the stationary bike and calculated it by adding the person's weight. The result shows a difference between the estimated calorie burned and the data directly from the stationary bike. The difference is between 0.0225 to 2.8775. The heavier the person, the more differences in the calories burned. The proposed method helped prove that a person's weight affects the calories burned while doing an activity, especially riding a stationary bike. © 2023 IEEE.

Real-world images often encompass embedded texts that adhere to disparate disciplines like business, education, and amusement, to name a few. Such images are graphically rich in terms of font attributes, color distribution, foreground-background similarity, and component organization. This aggravates the difficulty of recognizing texts from these images. Such characteristics are very prominent in the case of movie posters. One of the first pieces of information on movie posters is the title. Automatic recognition of movie titles from images can aid in efficient indexing as well as information conveyance. However, it is accompanied by other texts like the names of actors, producers, taglines, dates, etc. Though the organization of components is somewhat similar across different film industries like Tollywood (West Bengal), Bollywood (Mumbai), and Hollywood (Los Angeles), the graffiti patterns differ in multifarious instances. To address the problem of movie title understanding, we propose a dataset named MOvie POsters-Hollywood Bollywood Tollywood (MOPO-HBT) that encompasses movie posters from the aforementioned industries. The entire dataset is publicly available (http://***/11564) for research purposes. The baseline results of title identification and recognition were obtained with a CNN-based (Convolutional Neural Network) approach, wherein the titles were extracted using the M-EAST (Modified-Efficient and Accurate Scene Text) detector model. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2023.

An Evaluation Algorithm of Transient Grounding Impedance with Grounding Types in Distribution System

Recently, the researches on lightning and surge protection system are being actively conducted due to development of the information technology and large scale interconnection of renewable energy sources in power distribution system. Because the exsiting methods have dealt with prevention of human electric shock and equipment protection only considering reference frequency when the faults such as grounding and short-circuit are occurred, operation method of grounding impedance considering both reference and transient frequencies is being required. Therefore, this paper presents a calculation method of transient grounding impedance in rods and mesh grounding types to evaluate the transient grounding impedance in high frequency bandwidth, and proposes an evaluation algorithm to reduce the transient grounding impedance. Where, the proposed algorithm calculates grounding impedance in both reference and transient frequencies, and designs proper configuration of rods and mesh grounding types in order to meet the code of KEC. And also, this paper performs the modeling which is composed of distribution system, PV system and detecting device of transient grounding impedance using PSCAD/EMTDC S/W. From the simulation results based on the evaluation algorithm and modeling, it is confirmed that the proposed algorithm is useful tool to maintain the transient impedance and surge current within the allowable limit in KEC code. The new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which triggered the COVID-19 pandemic, has had an unparalleled effect on economies, cultures, and world health. In response to the critical need for strict COVID-19 screening systems in public areas, this study presents a creative Secured Entry Control system. Detecting and controlling possible COVID-19 carriers attempting to enter the country is made possible by this system, which makes use of deep learning algorithms and IoT technology. The mask detection algorithm, MobileNetV2 model, has an exceptional validation accuracy of 98.96\%. The model's reliability is supported by performance evaluations using ROC curves, confusion matrix analysis, and an AUC value of 98.96\%, which is close to the optimal AUC score of 100\%. Because MobileNetV2 is well-suited for low-processing devices, it is easy to deploy it on Raspberry Pi, which helps to create an affordable system. Furthermore, by spotting increased body temperatures, a contactless temperature sensor improves the system's ability to identify possible COVID-19 carriers. The functioning of the system is confirmed by the working prototype that is presented in the Experimental Results section. The main goal of this research is to create an autonomous system that is affordable and selectively allows access to people who are less likely to transmit COVID-19 in public areas. To achieve the overall objective of reducing the spread of COVID-19 in public spaces, this research highlights the successful integration of mask identification algorithms and IoT. © 2024 IEEE.
