This paper deals with the design of an Android mobile application and visualization of the measured values of particulate matter and meteorological factors from the measurement stations. The application can in principle be effectively used in any field of data visualization. The architecture of the mobile application, the security, the use of AWS services to access the data in the InfluxDB databases, as well as the user interface and graphical visualizations of the measured data are described and illustrated. The application is user tested and the paper documents their first experiences using the mobile application. © 2023 IEEE.

A decision tree is an easy-to-understand tool that has been widely used for classification tasks. On the one hand, due to privacy concerns, there has been an urgent need to create privacy-preserving classifiers that conceal the user's input from the classifier. On the other hand, with the rise of cloud computing, data owners are keen to reduce risk by outsourcing their model, but want security guarantees that third parties cannot steal their decision tree model. To address these issues, Joye and Salehi introduced a theoretical protocol that efficiently evaluates decision trees while maintaining privacy by leveraging their comparison protocol that is resistant to timing attacks. However, their approach was not only inefficient but also prone to side-channel attacks. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new decision tree inference protocol in which the model is shared and evaluated among multiple entities. We partition our decision tree model by each level to be stored in a new entity we refer to as a "level-site."Utilizing this approach, we were able to gain improved average run time for classifier evaluation for a non-complete tree, while also having strong mitigations against side-channel attacks. © 2024 IEEE.

U-shaped architecture have gain popularity in the image segmentation task, especially for biomedical image. Regardless of its good performance, U-shaped architecture generally has huge number of parameters. Considering the resource constraint in actual medical environment, the needs lightweight model is essential. In order to overcome this problem, we propose Channel Attention HalfU-Net. The proposed method implement the existing medical image segmentation model named HalfU-Net. HalfU-Net can reduce the computational cost by simplify the decoder part of the UNet. Channel attention is assigned between ghost model for every stage in encoder part to capture more relevant feature. This leads to performance improvement in skin lesion segmentation problem. Despite that our model achieve state-ofthe-arts performance by surpassing U-Net in aspects of DSC and IoU metrics by 0.86% and 3.48% respectively, the number of parameter of our proposed method is more than 200 times less then U-Net. © 2023 IEEE.

Land valuations are used by buyers, sellers, regulators, and authorities to assess fair value. Urbanization demands a modern and efficient land valuation system. An alternative method that integrates geographic information systems and machine learning can produce more reliable, repeatable, and accurate valuations. The land’s value can vary significantly based on the parcel’s neighborhood and context. Geospatial analytics, remote sensing and vector information were integrated to predict land values in Springfield, Missouri, USA. A point geodatabase was assembled using calculated proximities, accessibility, and various index measures. Supervised machine learning models were trained using government-provided appraised land values as ground truth. The database approach integrated spatial context and socioeconomic data. Slight differences in performance between random forest (98%, 0.13) and gradient boosting (98%, 0.15) algorithms were found (Adj. R 2 , STD).

In this paper, multiple relay selection (MRS) schemes for untrusted unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled networks are proposed. In this context, various machine learning (ML) models are employed to improve secrecy performance by optimally selecting multiple aerial relays from the available ones, all of which are regarded as untrusted. Notably, these ML models can cope with the quickly changing and random positioning of the aerial relays, effectively decoupling the intricate coupling relationship between the secrecy rate, channel coefficients, and inter-node distances. The results indicate that the ML-based MRS schemes obtain sufficient accuracy and better decoupling than a respective exhaustive searching (ES) approach, while also maintaining a lower computational complexity.

Text classification (TC) is widely used for organizing digital documents. The issues in TC are numerous characteristics and high-element dimensions. Many pattern classification issues require feature selection (FS), which is pertinent. FS removes unneeded and redundant data from the dataset. The Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) and Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) for FS are the main topics of our thorough assessment of the literature on the Swarm Intelligence (SI) algorithm. Furthermore, it illustrates how the hybrid SI technique is used in FS across various sectors. The hybrid SI technique uses applicable data from various FS methods to find feature subsets with smaller sizes and better classification performance than those found by regular FS algorithms. © 2022 IEEE.

The Greek School Network (GSN) provides support to students, teachers, and school units in secondary education across Greece. Handling numerous user queries manually can be challenging, necessitating the development of an automated system for accurate categorization of these queries. This paper presents a comparative study of various transformer-based models for multi-class text categorization of Greek language queries submitted to the GSN helpdesk. We introduce a new experimental balanced dataset and extract vector representations from eleven transformer-based models. These representations are evaluated using ten classic machine learning classifiers. Our findings highlight the superior performance of the Multilingual E5 Text Embeddings model, particularly when paired with the extreme gradient-boosting classifier. This combination demonstrates a clear advantage in accurately categorizing user queries, paving the way for more efficient automated helpdesk systems.

Based on one of the fundamental principles of the educational model of the European Higher Education Area concerning the development of the capacity to achieve lifelong learning, this project has been developed in which a set of active teaching activities have been implemented for the acquisition of key competences in the challenge of achieving one of the most important goals that any educational system must provide: lifelong learning, thereby facilitating the incorporation of new university graduates into the world of work. However, to facilitate the transfer to other subjects, the catalogue of active teaching activities is sufficiently varied to make it easy to extrapolate and use in other subjects, thanks to the fact that teachers have a wide variety of activities to choose from the set. In this work, we demonstrate the impact of an unconventional convolutional photonic accelerator, based on an optical spectrum slicing (OSS) [1], on the classification accuracy of objects, generated through a high-frame rate neuromorphic event-based camera [2]. The experimental setup is depicted in Fig.1a. Ιt consists of a 5 mW-632 nm-LED source, two objective lenses with NA=0.65 that concentrate the light beam into a 100 μmX100 μm channel. In our experiments, the targeted objects consist of test spheres, of different diameters (12, 16, and 20 μm), used in aqua solutions. A pump regulated the sphere's speed to 0.8 m/s. The objects were recorded by a 10 kframe/s capable neuromorphic camera, with a temporal resolution of 1 μs. The camera detects pixel's contrast changes (events), similar to biological systems [2]. The recorded events were exported into 1 kframes/sec videos through a synthetic frame generator software, resulting to 2988 images per particle [2]. Images were post-processed using only noise reduction by frame subtraction and image cropping so as to reduce data volume to 100 x 100 pixels. © 2023 IEEE.

Electricity Consumption by ICT: Facts, trends, and measurements

This paper considers key issues surrounding energy consumption by information and communication technologies (ICT), which has been steadily growing and is now attaining approximately 10% of the worldwide electricity consumption with a significant impact on greenhouse gas emissions. The perimeter of ICT systems is discussed, and the role of the subsystems that compose ICT is considered. Data from recent years is used to understand how each of these sub-systems contribute to ICT's energy consumption. The quantitatively demonstrated positive correlation between the penetration of ICT in the world's different economies and the same economies' contributions to undesirable greenhouse gas emissions is also discussed. The paper also examines how emerging technologies such as 5G, AI, edge computing, and cryptocurrencies are contributing to the worldwide increase in electricity consumption by ICT, despite the increases in ICT efficiency, in terms of energy consumed per bit processed, stored, or transmitted. The measurement of specific ICT systems' electricity consumption is also addressed, and the manner in which this consumption can be minimized in a specific edge computing context is discussed.
