Customers’ satisfaction prediction is a vital process for all business organizations to draw new customers and maintain existing customers. One of the most efficient methods to predict customers' satisfaction is classifying customers' feedback. In the real world, customer’s feedback is ambiguous, confusing and inconsistent. This option can be stated in neutrosophic logic as indeterminacy membership, associated with truth and falsity membership. In this study, a classification model based on neutrosophic sets to handle the inconsistency of customer responses is presented. Also, significant factors that impact customers' satisfaction are defined. In order to show the procedures and the application of the proposed method, a case study to determine the customers' satisfaction while using food order application (Talabat) in Egypt is presented. A comparison between the classical classification models and the proposed model based on neutrosophic sets is presented. The experimental results indicate that the proposed classifying model achieved accuracy results around 95.36% to 99.95%, higher than the classical one that achieve around 90.3% to 93.99%. Next, a sensitivity analysis is performed for reliability validation as to determine the most factors that affect customers’ satisfaction. © 2025, University of New Mexico. All rights reserved.

Forest fires pose significant threats to both the environment and human life, necessitating the development of advanced detection and prevention systems. In this study, we propose an integrated IoT (Internet of Things)-based system for early detection and management of forest fires. The system incorporates a range of sensors including heat, gas, and thermal imaging sensors, along with IoT technology for real-Time monitoring and communication. Utilizing image processing techniques and (ML) Machine Learning algorithms, the system can accurately detect fires, predict their spreading patterns, and analyze environmental conditions. Key features include the deployment of disposable heat sensors for temperature monitoring, IoT sensors for gas detection and weather monitoring, and a centralized processing node for data analysis. Alerts are sent to nearby authorities and residents, while automated firefighting devices are activated to suppress fires until backup arrives. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed system in early detection and prevention of forest fires. © 2025 IEEE.

Fires are becoming one of the major natural hazards that threaten the ecology, economy, human life and even more worldwide. Therefore, early fire detection systems are crucial to prevent fires from spreading out of control and causing destruction. Based on vision sensors, many fire detection techniques have evolved with the recent surge of curiosity in deep learning, which exploits the spatial features of individual images. However, fire can take different forms, scales, and combustion materials can produce different colors, making accurate fire detection from an image challenging. Small fires captured from long-distance cameras lack salient features, further complicating detection. This paper proposes a hybrid structure that uses attention-enhanced convolutional neural networks and vision transformers (CNN-ViT) to detect fire. The proposed CNN-ViT first pays spatial attention to every frame and then aggregates temporal contextual information from neighboring frames to improve detection performance. Due to the limited availability of training fire datasets, the study employs deep transfer learning for feature extraction using pre-trained CNN. We used various metrics to examine the efficacy of the proposed approach. The results showed that the CNN-ViT method outperformed previous models based on spatial-temporal characteristics by achieving a relative improvement in accuracy and F1 score. The satisfactory results on images contaminated with different intensities of noise confirm the robustness of the approach. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

This research proposes a system as a solution for the challenges faced by Sri Lanka's historic railway system, such as scheduling delays, overcrowding, manual ticketing, and management inefficiencies. It proposes a multi-subsystem approach, incorporating GPS tracking, RFID-based e-ticketing, seat reservation, and vision-based people counting. The GPS-based real-time train tracking system performs accurately within 24 meters, with the MQTT protocol showing twice the speed of the HTTP-based system. All subsystems use the MQTT protocol to enhance efficiency, reliability, and passenger experience. The study's data and methodology demonstrate the effectiveness of these innovations in improving scheduling, passenger flow, and overall system performance, offering promising solutions for modernizing Sri Lanka's railway infrastructure. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper introduces Augmented Karuta, an interactive floor projection experience inspired by traditional Japanese playing cards, known as 'Karuta'. Designed to engage users and stimulate interest in local cultures, history, and traditions, the system utilizes three projectors. Two projectors project 46 'grabbing' cards onto the floor screen of 4.1 x 3.7 (m), while the third displays a corresponding 'reading' card on a wall screen. Each matching pair of cards shares a poem or sentence that begins with one of the Japanese phonograms. During a session, users actively engage by stepping onto the projected 'grabbing' card that matches the 'reading' card displayed on the wall, effectively blending physical movement with cognitive skills to find the correct match. By integrating a two-dimensional LiDAR sensor, the system tracks the user's position on the interactive floor. This tracking is vital for the proposed system to immediately respond to the user's actions, ensuring an immersive and seamless interaction with the digital karutas on the floor. We conducted evaluation experiments at two museums, gathering positive feedback from 57 participants. Future work will focus on quantitatively evaluating the system's impact on learning effectiveness. © 2025 IEEE.

Proficiency in mathematics is essential for both academic and professional success, yet many students find the subject difficult, especially when preparing for important exams like Sri Lanka's General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.) Ordinary Level examination. In Sri Lanka, the students show poor pass rates in Ordinary Level mathematics examination. In order to improve mathematics education for O/L students, this research suggests an innovative mobile application that makes use of adaptive learning strategies. This application features components like a comprehensive knowledge bank that is curriculum-mapped, pre-assessment tools for identifying knowledge shortages, a weaknesses based lesson recommendation for personalized lesson suggestions, a custom developed chat assistant to interact with the knowledge bank, interactive 3D visualizations and justifications of complex concepts, and platforms for problem-solving, writing, and time management skill development. The suggested adaptive learning strategy makes use of multimedia tools and datadriven insights to tailor instruction to each student's unique needs, improving math comprehension and readiness for the O/L examination in Sri Lanka. © 2024 IEEE.

Fake news continues to proliferate, posing an increasing threat to public discourse. The paper proposes a framework of a Mixture of Experts, Sentiment Analysis, and Sarcasm Detection experts for improved fake news detection. This approach captures the emotional cues in the text through a Sentiment Analysis expert, which is based on bidirectional encoder representations from Transformers (BERT) models with sentiment vectors generated using SentiWordNet and Integrated Gradients. It combines a sarcasm detection expert based on BERT, recognizing sarcasm and its type to help classify fake news. By fusing these experts through a Mixture of Experts gateway, subtle linguistic cues often found in fake news are more effectively analyzed, leading to improved accuracy in detecting misinformation. Experimental results are presented as 96% for the Sarcasm expert with the BERT base model and 83% for the Sentiment Analysis expert with the distilled version of the BERT (DistilBERT) base model, proving the effectiveness of the proposed approach in beating traditional methods. © 2024 IEEE.

In the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) landscape, where the Cloud-to-Things Continuum (C2TC) paradigm is now a reality, industrial applications need to cope with highly heterogeneous network and computing resources. Moreover, many industrial applications also involve Mobile Nodes (MNs). Efficient allocation of network and computing resources to meet the stringent requirements of such applications is often a very challenging task. In this paper, we propose J-NECORA (Joint NEtwork and COmputing Resource Allocation), a comprehensive analytical framework to derive the optimal joint allocation of network and computing resources in the C2TC, that guarantees the application requirements, even in the presence of MNs. If the optimal allocation does not exist, J-NECORA provides a best-effort allocation that minimizes the delay. The proposed framework is highly modular and flexible, and can be easily customized to different scenarios. We validated its effectiveness through simulation experiments, focusing on a specific use case. For the considered scenarios, the performance predicted by our framework matches quite closely the simulation results. © 2014 IEEE.

We propose a novel visualization system to enhance soccer passing practice by providing potential pass courses and their scores. The proposed system is based on a first-person video footage captured during soccer play and extracts frames for pass-course suggestions using the rate of ground-surface pixels in the frame and dept. estimation. Possible pass courses were scored according to their direction and distance to the closest player. To validate the proposed method's effectiveness, we conducted a series of experiments involving 17 participants, comprising 12 museum visitors and five university students. The estimated score of visualized pass courses using the proposed method was generally successful, whereas some pass courses received lower scores from participants owing to limitations in the system's ability to accurately detect the color of players' uniforms, which affected the overall evaluation of certain passing options. © 2024 IEEE.

We propose a new display method for visualizing flower models using a pseudo-holographic technique known as the Pepper's ghost illusion. This classic optical illusion technique creates the appearance of floating objects by reflecting them off a transparent panel, thereby producing a convincing visual effect that simulates three-dimensionality. In our approach, we utilized this illusion to display six distinct flower models obtained from a comprehensive photogrammetry archive of various plant species. These models were rendered to overlay onto a transparent glass vase, enhancing the realism of quality. To facilitate user interaction with the displayed models, we incorporated a dept. sensor (Intel D415) to track the user's hand position. A user study revealed that participants were notably attracted to the display, indicating successful capture of their attention. Feedback, however, suggested that the system requires enhancements in usability and dept. perception to improve the overall user experience. Our future work includes addressing these limitations by developing a larger display setup that could accommodate more complex interactions and by integrating motion-parallax techniques to enhance the three-dimensional view. This could be implemented using head-tracking technology, further advancing the effectiveness of the pseudo-holographic display. © 2024 IEEE.
