Rapid expansion in the manufacture and use of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has introduced significant challenges in ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards. To protect user data and privacy, all organizations providing IoT devices must adhere to complex guidelines such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology Inter agency Report (NIST IR) 8259, which defines essential cybersecurity guidelines for IoT manufacturers. However, interpreting and applying these rules from these guidelines and the privacy policies remains a significant challenge for companies. Thus, this project presents a novel approach to extract knowledge from NIST 8259 for creating semantically rich ontology mappings. Our ontology captures key compliance rules, which are stored in a knowledge graph (KG) that allows organizations to crosscheck and update privacy policy documents with ease. The KG also enables real-time querying using SPARQL and offers a transparent view of regulatory adherence for IoT manufacturers and users. By automating the process of verifying cybersecurity compliance, the framework ensures that companies remain aligned with NIST standards, eliminating manual checks and reducing the risk of non-compliance. We also demonstrate that compared to the baseline Large Language Models (LLMs), our proposed framework has more compliance accuracy, and is more efficient and scalable. © 2024 IEEE.

Early diagnosis of the brain condition known as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) could significantly reduce the high healthcare costs typically involved with treating ASD. Autism's fiscal toll emphasizes the importance of developing easy and effective detection instruments. Therefore, a quick ASD evaluation is essential to helping healthcare professionals and letting people know if they should seek a formal clinical diagnosis. Currently, there are very few autism datasets related to screening accessible, most of which are based on genetics. To expose critical information about autism screening, this work suggests applying a novel machine learning framework that contains vital characteristics and performing predictive analysis utilising a Support vector machine, logistic regression, K-nearest neighbour, and random forest. The main objective of this study is to develop a system for the early detection of children at risk for autism spectrum disorders (ASD). © 2023 IEEE.

Testing is essential for successful delivery of software solutions and is not always performed by specialist testers. In earlier studies, we noted a wide diversity in the backgrounds of the testers participating in these studies, prompting our research question: Who is Testing? We conducted a qualitative study of over 70 industry testers, covering testers from multiple countries and domains, with information about their backgrounds, hobbies, roles and characteristics. We show testers are from a wide range of backgrounds, with differing needs, characteristics, and problem-solving preferences. Their roles in software projects are multi-faceted, requiring a high cognitive skill level. We discuss how to break stereotyping and best support diversity in testers’ backgrounds and characteristics. We consider whether software testers are different from other software practitioners, and how understanding tester personas helps support of testers and testing. © Evans et al.

This study aims to analyze the impact of user interface (UI) design on customer satisfaction and loyalty in SaaS e-commerce applications, using a quantitative approach to measure the perceptions of SaaS e-commerce application users and determine how visual aspects and interface functionality contribute to the user experience, with data analysis conducted using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation modeling (PLS-SEM) method, indicating that an intuitive and responsive interface design significantly influences increased customer satisfaction, which in turn strengthens their loyalty to the application;the study seeks to provide insights that developing an effective user interface is crucial for building long-term relationships with customers and reaffirms the importance of integrating good interface design in e-commerce application development strategies, and further suggests that incorporating user-centered design principles and continuously collecting user feedback can enhance the user experience, thereby allowing developers to create interfaces that not only attract users but also retain them, essential for e-commerce businesses aiming to improve user engagement and loyalty in a highly competitive market. © 2024 IEEE.

Contrast is very important in analyzing medical images, and some contrast enhances the methods that could be very helpful when the image contrast is not good. The enhancement of Deep Super-Resolution (EDSR) is the deep learning (DL) technique that improves the quality and resolution of low-resolution images. Within this study, a transfer learning method grounded in a convolutional neural network (EDSR-Modified) is leveraged for enhancing contrast in cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR). The study conducts experiments at the S7 ISP and ACDC datasets, utilizing the S7 ISP dataset for training and the ACDC dataset for testing the assessment enhancement. This study aims to combine EDSR-Modified with transfer learning to improve CMR image quality, which is used to diagnose cardiovascular diseases. Qualitative comparisons are performed using mean squared error (MSE), peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and SSIM evaluation metrics. It is observed that the proposed technique outperforms the other techniques. © 2024 IEEE.

We propose a novel visualization system to enhance soccer passing practice by providing potential pass courses and their scores. The proposed system is based on a first-person video footage captured during soccer play and extracts frames for pass-course suggestions using the rate of ground-surface pixels in the frame and dept. estimation. Possible pass courses were scored according to their direction and distance to the closest player. To validate the proposed method's effectiveness, we conducted a series of experiments involving 17 participants, comprising 12 museum visitors and five university students. The estimated score of visualized pass courses using the proposed method was generally successful, whereas some pass courses received lower scores from participants owing to limitations in the system's ability to accurately detect the color of players' uniforms, which affected the overall evaluation of certain passing options. © 2024 IEEE.

We propose a new display method for visualizing flower models using a pseudo-holographic technique known as the Pepper's ghost illusion. This classic optical illusion technique creates the appearance of floating objects by reflecting them off a transparent panel, thereby producing a convincing visual effect that simulates three-dimensionality. In our approach, we utilized this illusion to display six distinct flower models obtained from a comprehensive photogrammetry archive of various plant species. These models were rendered to overlay onto a transparent glass vase, enhancing the realism of quality. To facilitate user interaction with the displayed models, we incorporated a dept. sensor (Intel D415) to track the user's hand position. A user study revealed that participants were notably attracted to the display, indicating successful capture of their attention. Feedback, however, suggested that the system requires enhancements in usability and dept. perception to improve the overall user experience. Our future work includes addressing these limitations by developing a larger display setup that could accommodate more complex interactions and by integrating motion-parallax techniques to enhance the three-dimensional view. This could be implemented using head-tracking technology, further advancing the effectiveness of the pseudo-holographic display. © 2024 IEEE.

We propose an interactive information kiosk for tracking and visualizing visitor activities in museums. Each visitor is assigned a sheet of paper with one's own QR code and recocnized by presenting the code before interacting with our kiosks and other exhibits. The proposed kiosk has a 32 inch LCD built into a wooden stand and a inexpensive two-dimensional LiDAR sensor mounted at the top to detect visitor interactions of hand gestures towards the display surface. We implemented a four-choice quiz with 40 questions, an personal review of visitor activity, and a museum floor guide which can be scrolled using hand gestures. A server system has been also developed to collect information from kiosks and summarize it. A series of experiments was conducted in a local science museum for two days to evaluate the proposed system to track and visualize visitor activities. Our future work includes improving the system with various sensors and larger-scale experiments with more kiosks with multiple types of content. © 2024 IEEE.

We propose an interactive projection system that uses two projectors and a two-dimensional LiDAR sensor. A mirror was used to reflect a portion of the scanning plane of the sensor to detect the location of the user on the floor and that of the touch. Three-dimensional colored models of small creatures, such as frogs and mantis, were displayed on the floor screen, whereas the front screen on the wall was used to provide mini quizzes and information about the creature. User experiments were conducted at a science museum to evaluate the proposed system. Seventeen participants rated our system at 4.23 on a scale of 1 to 5 in terms of interest, usability, and helpfulness. © 2024 IEEE.

Sri Lanka faces significant air pollution challenges, primarily from vehicular emissions, posing serious public health risks and impacting the quality of life. To address this, we developed a real-time air quality monitoring system that visualizes pollution data through an interactive heatmap. Our system integrates gas sensors that measure methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and particulate matter (PM.), connected to an ESP32 board and Wi-Fi module, and strategically deployed around smart buildings. The collected data is transmitted to a central hub using IoT technology and visualized on a mobile app developed with Flutter, featuring a color-coded scheme to represent pollution levels. This allows users to easily identify high-risk areas and select cleaner routes for travel. In testing, we focused on predicting PM. concentrations in Colombo using machine learning models, including Random Forest, XGBoost, and Prophet. Random Forest excelled in PM. prediction, while Prophet was highly effective for CO, demonstrating machine learning's potential in air quality forecasting. The system also includes a MIMI Air device that collects, processes, and transmits air quality data every 30 seconds, alerting users in real-time when pollutants exceed WHO thresholds, providing a cost-effective, reliable solution for public health. © 2024 IEEE.
