Techniques for optimal control of hybrid systems have to consider the complex interaction of continuous and discrete dynamics and are required to limit the computational complexity arising from the corresponding search spaces. This contribution proposes an approach to computing hybrid optimal control trajectories based on an iterative model-abstraction and refinement scheme. The hybrid automaton is mapped to an abstract representation which is enriched by cost information gained from graph. Candidate solutions are computed on the abstract level and are mapped back to the level of the hybrid model, where they are validated. A refinement step guides the search for (sub-) optimal hybrid control trajectories. The proposed approach is implemented for the optimization of the start-up procedure for a chemical reactor.

This paper shows how control techniques, such as PID or generalized predictive control, can improve the performance of TCP/IP networks when dealing with congestion. Drop tail, or more sophisticated AQM techniques such as RED, perform worse than process control techniques. A comparison between the different methods in different working scenarios is analyzed. Two different GPC controllers are evaluated. One considers the model resulting from on-line identification and the other is the linearization of the non-linear model.

This contribution addresses the problem of computing the probability that a linear system with uncertain inputs reaches an unsafe region in the state space. The probability of reaching unsafe states is bounded by an upper limit, by intersecting enclosing hulls of the probability density function for time intervals with the specified unsafe regions. Disturbances are modeled as white Gaussian noise, whose mean is modeled as uncertain within specified sets. This allows to consider white non-Gaussian noise in an over-approximative manner. The presented approach is efficient in the sense that high-dimensional systems can be handled.

This paper proposes a smart video surveillance system with real-time moving object (primarily human) detection and identification for solving the problem of excessive power consumption in indoor public places. The proposed detection system is able to handle several known constraints such as changing illumination conditions, occlusion, clutter or even irrelevant extraneous motion. The Picture Archiving and Communication System(PACS)was introduced for computerization of the medical system and telediagnosis between the hospital. It is becoming possible to create, store, and transmit medical images via PACS. There has been a growing interest in protecting medical images with an enormous amount of information. To improve transmission speed among the hospitals, the medical image should be compression JPEG 2000 by high compression ratio. This paper proposes an algorithM that utilizes both JPEG 2000 and robust watermarking for protection and compression of the medical image. With the proposed algorithm, it takes considerably less time to do JPEG 2000 and watermarking than when they are done separately. Based on the experiment results, it takes 0.72 second for the proposed algorithm and 1.11 second when they are done separately. We confirmed that the proposed algorithM was faster than when they are done separately.
