The paper describes an investigation of model reference adaptive backstepping based direct torque control (DTC) for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. The analysis of PMSMs drive model provide the basis for the designing the controller using the adaptive backstepping technique. A linear reference model is introduced in order to achieve high performance speed tracking. The proposed controller is robust to the uncertainties and load torque disturbance. It is proven that the control variables are globally asymptotically stable by applying Lyapunov theory. The performance of the proposed drive is investigated in simulation at different operating conditions. It is also demonstrated that the new system has a much better speed tracking performance while keeping a good dynamic performance, even for large uncertainties and disturbances.

In this paper, authors are proposed drive system for BLDCM using motor drivers based on LabVIEW. Most researchers generally use Matlab/Simulink program as computer simulation tool for their control system design. These control system must be coded to the motor drivers using program language such as C for its verification. We developed drive system using LabVIEW, it is able to complete whole process from control system design to verification of control system without program coding. Sampled data provided by a process are usually corrupted by various noises. Although data are required to be denoised before applying any further processing, the corrupting noises could encode a part of desired information. A partial denoising is suitable in this case, as part of pre-processing procedure. Another requirement frequently used in data pre-processing is to compress the useful information in a smaller number of data. Partial denoising and compression are gathered in the concept of "signal compaction". The paper introduces an original method for providing compacted preliminary data, relied on the concept of "verisimilitude" and requiring no synchronization signal accompanying the acquired data.

Structures with inverse model represent one of the successful solutions for the real-time control of the nonlinear processes. The use of these structures imposes solving some specific problems, like determination of static characteristic of the process, construction of inverse model or robust control law design. The paper proposes a structure and the correspondent original methodology of designing and physically implementation based on inverse model command. The applicability of the structure is proved using a real-time structure with an RST control algorithm. In the end, its software implementation and the obtained results are also shown.

The major efforts regarding this analysis, on algorithmic development, and on computations deal with the flow and temperature control and their optimization. This study treats the steady state in order to avoid the unsteady problems. The paper's analyses, i.e. the numerical analyses, and computations have addressed two important types of controls which are the air flow and the temperature. The principal object of this paper is to control several important characteristics of a chemical process by using an automatic device for optimization and system identification;in each case one intends to control the temperature degrees and the air pressure values in the same time, starting from a mechanical apparatus connected at a computer where there are installed the respective control software;this apparatus gives the possibility to set the temperature values at a specified pressure which can produce cold air.

This paper deals with liquid tanks management faced from an automaticcontrol point of view;the motivation for the study is the need for an automated management strategy for two liquid tanks. The problem that is addressed in this paper is the control of liquid level on each tank by using the PD controller [2]. We encountered with an important problem that is the resulting disturbance from the intersection between these two tanks and the second tank drain, this disturbance has a negative effect in our system. We use in both tanks two valves that are controlled by two DC motors for adjusting the inflow of the liquid for each tank. As far as we know, such performance specifications are unattainable with the old existing methods [1].

The paper presents an optimization based algorithm for stabilizing retarded systems using a state derivative feedback controller. It is shown that an application of such a controller results in neutral dynamics of the closed loop system if small feedback delays occur. Therefore, the strong stability theory of neutral systems needs to be considered in the controller synthesis problem. The stabilization approach is based on minimizing the spectral abscissa of the closed loop system over the controller parameter space, subject to a strong stability constraint.

A method for quasi-direct pole placement is presented for a class of retarded time delay systems with a single control input. The pole placement is done in two steps. First, a number of dominant poles, smaller than the number of controller parameters, are directly assigned. This leads to constraints on the controller parameters. By using the singular value decomposition a simple parameterization of all controllers satisfying these constraints is obtained. In the second step, the remaining degrees of freedom in the parameter space are used to shift the remaining part of the system spectrum as far to the left as possible. It is done using an optimization procedure for nonsmooth, nonconvex functions. An extensive real-plant example is presented to demonstrate the application of the novel pole placement procedure.

This paper presents a novel load variation compensation algorithm in a sensor-less BLDC motor drive for a reciprocating compressor. Periodic load variation of a reciprocating compressor leads to commutation position error and instantaneous speed variation and causes large peak currents. The major concept of this study includes tracking the pattern of load torque and controlling the motor input voltage by the commutation point and PWM depending on the tracked load torque. The suggested method can reduce the cost because this method does not require additional current sensing or voltage comparison circuit. The utility of the suggested algorithm was confirmed by simulation and experimental results of a sensor-less BLDC motor drive.
