Based on the delay-independent rule, the problem of optimal guaranteed cost control for a class of Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy descriptor systems with time-varying delay is studied. A linear quadratic cost function is considered as the performance index of the closed-loop system. Sufficient conditions for the existence of guaranteed cost controllers via state feedback are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), and the design of an optimal guaranteed cost controller can be reduced to a convex optimization problem. It is shown that the designed controller not only guarantees the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop fuzzy descriptor delay system, but also provides an optimized upper bound of the guaranteed cost. At last, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and the perfect performance of the optimal guaranteed cost controller.

The whole system is centered on the student and it mainly takes into account Vygotsky's socio-cultural theory that states that social interaction plays a fundamental role in the development of cognition. The model is part of a larger project - DANTE - Socio-Cultural Models implemented through multi-agent architecture for e-learning - that has as main objective the development of a student centred framework for the virtual educational universe that facilitates collaborative learning. To better identify the objects in remote sensing images, the multispectral images with high spectral resolution and low spatial resolution, and the panchromatic images with high spatial resolution and low spectral resolution need to be fused. Many fusion techniques are discussed in the recent years to obtain images with high spectral resolution and also high spatial resolution. In this paper an image fusion technique, based on integrating both the Intensity-Hue-Saturation (IHS) and the Discrete Wavelet Frame Transform (DWFT), is proposed for boosting the quality of remote sensing images. A panchromatic and multispectral image from Landsat-7(ETM+) satellite has been fused using this new approach. Experimental results show that the proposed technique improves the spectral and spatial qualities of the fused images. Moreover, when this technique is applied to noisy and de-noised remote sensing images it can preserve the quality of the fused images. Comparison analyses between different fusion techniques are also presented and show that the proposed technique outperforms the other techniques.

Construction parts consisting of modern composite materials made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) laminates still need to be machined, whereby drill holes are frequently manufactured. Special attention has to be paid to the machining quality, which implies dimensional accuracy as well as a defect-free peripheral zone. Machining defects often occur as a consequence of excessive mechanical and thermal loads, which are often caused by wrong process conditions or by the wrong choice of machining process itself. With respect to widely used state-of-the-art machine tools providing high performance and equipped with potent control unit, for the comparatively large drill hole, circular milling gains interest as an alternative to the drilling operation assisted by ultrasonic torsional mode vibration cutting. Here, the circular milling process Is compared to the drilling process focusing on the cutting of hole having 6 mm diameter to CFRP laminates. The research work highlights the tool wear, the dimensional accuracy and the defects, which occur in the peripheral zone.

A backstepping design for an aircraft described by rigid body dynamics is proposed. The system states are the unit velocity vector and the angular velocity in a body-fixed coordinate system. The result can be viewed as a multi-variable controller for angle of attack, sideslip angle, and velocity vector roll rate. The backstepping design is performed on the rigid body dynamics described on vector form. The resulting controller achieves convergence to a desired state from almost all starting points. Guidelines are given for tuning the controller to affect the characteristics of the short period mode, the roll mode and the dutch roll mode. A coupled high angle of attack, high roll rate maneuver is simulated using a simplified aircraft model to illustrate the design.
