This paper investigates the utilisation of back propagation neural networks (NNs) for modelling flexible beam structures in fixed-free mode; a simple representation of an aircraft wing or robot arm. A comparative performance of the NN model and conventional recursive least square scheme, in characterising the system is carried out in the time and frequency domains. Simulated results demonstrate that using NN approach the system is modelled well than with the conventional linear modelling approach. The developed neuro-modelling approach would further be utilized in the design and implementation of suitable controllers, for vibration suppression in such system.

This paper is an explanation of an approach to the problem of decision making in a multi agent system using genetic algorithm. The soccer game environment is chosen as the distributed system. This algorithm was tested during the Robocop competitions against other teams and could register important accomplishments. We also compare the performance of three averaging methodologies; simple weighted averaging approach, genetic algorithm with simple weighted average function, and genetic algorithm with an OWA function. This paper encompasses the study of the output impedance impact of parallel-connected UPS inverters. Two novel nonlinear control strategies are proposed. The first one is based on the single-wire current-sharing scheme, which is well known in parallel dc-to-dc converter systems. The second one is a wireless control technique derived from the droop method. The output impedance of the inverters is investigated in both cases. Results of two parallel-connected 1-kVA UPS inverters show the feasibility of the proposed approach. Finally, the two proposed controllers are compared between them and those with the existing solutions.

This paper presents an approach for functionally dealing with multiple tasks in the supervisory control of discrete-event systems (DES). The colored marking generator (CMG), a special type of Moore automaton, is introduced as a model that distinguishes classes of tasks in DES. Then, the main results of supervisory control theory are extended to this model, allowing the synthesis of more refined supervisors in control problems where the distinction of classes of task is necessary. Reversibility is also investigated as an alternative way of ensuring liveness of multiple tasks. Finally, an example illustrates the convenience of this approach.

The paper is devoted to the problem of modeling demand for inventory management of slow-moving items in the case of reporting errors. It is proposed a generalization of the beta-binomial demand model that takes into account possible reporting errors in the learning sample. For the new model, there are developed identification and forecasting algorithms that provide consistent estimators of the model parameters and mean square optimal forecasts. The efficiency of the proposed approach is illustrated by an application example for slow-moving car parts.

UTMAC is an object-oriented C++ class library, developed for design, implementation and simulation of multi-agent controllers. Using UTMAC, the control problem under analysis should be decomposed into several partial sub-problems to be solved by controller-agents, which can be implemented as reusable entities. UTMAC uses a non-centralized simulation scheme in which cash agent simulates itself. In this paper the structure of UTMAC is explored and design of a simple reusable multi-agent controller is provided to illustrate the work and show the convenience of design and implementation.
