In this paper, an adaptive control approach is proposed for performance of constrained robot end-effector movements in presence of uncertainty. In real-world scenarios, complex physical phenomena occuring at the place of interaction may introduce nonlinearities in the system dynamics, which have to be taken into account for proper system control. We currently propose an Extremum Seeking (ES) Model Reference Adaptive control (MRAC) approach for state tracking of multiple-input multiple-output systems which enclose nonlinearities in their dynamics and involve parametric uncertainty by employing Adaptive Dynamic Inversion (ADI). According to ADI, system nonlinearities are assumed known and are taken into account in the design of the system control law. The proposed scheme is based on MRAC and ADI while the unknown controller parameters are adapted by ES control. The system is shown to achieve global and asymptotic reference state tracking under the proposed control law by performing Lyapunov and averaging analysis. The approach is evaluated in simulation and in an experimental robot task.

This paper studies one particular aspect of providing communication security: firewall technology. This article provides a security framework in the form of packet filtering model within the firewall technology system and its components can be designed and evaluated. This paper introduces a reference model based on packet filtering firewall technology. All components are governed by a centralized security policy and they can be deployed in a distributed fashion to achieve scaling. This packet filtering firewall design is proven technology that provides confidentiality, integrity and availability in own information and network resources. The required design implement to set-up packet filtering firewall for network to protect and unauthorized access to our network. We describe the filtering process design depends on its underlying network technologies. The resulting security mechanism can be used as a bastion-host in the construction of firewall system.

Genome-Wide Association Studies (GWAS) are of great importance in identifying the genetic variants associated with traits/diseases. Due to the high number of candidate SNPs some filtering techniques are necessary to be applied. The aim of the study was to develop the comprehensive approach allowing for detailed analysis of both SNP-gene and SNP-miRNA-gene relations. We elaborated and optimized the novel signal analysis pipeline improving significantly the results of the analysis on genotype-phenotype interplay. Direct links between genotype results and gene expression levels were enriched by detailed analysis of SNP-miRNA-gene interactions at both mature miRNA structure/seed region and target binding site level. The proposed technique was applied to the data on lymphocyte radiation response and increased by almost 100% number of potential functional SNPs.

Web Laboratories (WebLabs) are essential resources for engineering education. Within this type of laboratory, a new Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) package design model is shown in this work. The proposed model is based on a set of resources that form a complete educational structure;taking into account the sequencing and navigation among the elements that compose it. In addition, it can be uploaded to a Learning Management System (LMS), offering to the students an effective tool to work with web labs. The package is structured in 4 sections or pages: Introduction, Theory, Virtual/Remote Laboratory (VRL) and Assessment;where the last performs an automated verification of the work done by the learner. In this way, one of the advantage of this methodology is that the instant results of the assessments, performed by the SCORM package, is stored in the inner LMS. Some WebLabs performing this methodology are being developed in the University of Jaén. In this work, an example is developed: 'Modelling of Dynamic System: DC Motor'. This WebLab is used in the Industrial Automation course that is included in several Industrial Engineering degrees. © 2014 IEEE.

The paper describes the steps involved in designing and implementing a mobile app for real time monitoring of mental stress using voice features and machine learning techniques. The app is easy to use and completely non-invasive. It is called StressID and it is available in the Google Play store. With the use of a server application presenting a web interface, interested parties may remotely monitor the stress states detected by the mobile app, enlarging the number of use case scenarios.

This paper shows how control techniques, such as PID or generalized predictive control, can improve the performance of TCP/IP networks when dealing with congestion. Drop tail, or more sophisticated AQM techniques such as RED, perform worse than process control techniques. A comparison between the different methods in different working scenarios is analyzed. Two different GPC controllers are evaluated. One considers the model resulting from on-line identification and the other is the linearization of the non-linear model. © 2009 EUCA.

The last six years has seen Moore's Law continue to produce incredible gains in computational power. Indeed, the November, 2007 list of the top ten fastest supercomputers in the world contained no machines with acceleration of any kind. The same list six years later has four of the ten fastest supercomputers using accelerators, including the top two machines [3] . And the ten greenest supercomputers in November 2013 are using NVIDIA GPUs [1]. This heterogeneity of processing units is present from the top of the computational power spectrum down to the bottom, where GPU hardware coupled with novel CUDA and OpenCL programming paradigms have brought significant performance gains to consumer-grade applications. This paper presents a new design methodology of multivariable Smith predictor for stable 2×2 time delay processes based on the centralized inverted decoupling structure. The controller elements are calculated in order to achieve good reference tracking and decoupling response, and the obtained general expressions result very simple. The realizability conditions are stated and the particular case of processes with all of its elements as first order plus time delay systems is discussed in more detail. A diagonal filter is added to the proposed control structure in order to improve the disturbance rejection without modifying the nominal set-point response. The methodology is applied to two simulation examples and comparisons with other authors show its effectiveness.
