This paper proposes a method to provide the frame synchronization for the high quality 3D broadcasting service in a mobile broadcasting system. In this method, left and right video frames are delivered through a heterogeneous network which consists of a mobile network and a broadcasting network, to overcome the limited bandwidth of the broadcasting network. Then it is more difficult to synchronize the left and right video frames coming through different types of networks. In the beginning, the proposed method uses only the offset from the initial timestamp of RTP (Real Time Protocol) to determine the order of frames and to find the pair of a left and a right frame that must be played at the same time. However, the method using the initial timestamp only may not resolve the PCR (Program Reference Clock) discontinuity problem of the broadcasting system. Thus the proposed method is enhanced to periodically send RTCP (Real Time Control Protocol) which includes current timestamps of a pair of frames on mobile and broadcasting networks. Additionally, a new signaling method is introduced for a mobile device to request a 3D service and to get the initial RTP timestamp.

We consider networked control systems where nodes (sensors, actuators, and controller) are connected via a communication network that allows only one user to transmit at a given time. We tackle the scheduling problem of deciding which node should access the network at each transmission time so as to optimize a quadratic performance objective. Using the framework of dynamic programming, we propose a rollout strategy by which the node elected to transmit at each step is the one that leads to optimal performance over a lookahead horizon assuming that from then on nodes transmit in a periodic order. The proposed strategy leads to a protocol in which a conic state partition determines which node transmits at each step and which can outperform any given periodic protocol. Moreover, we show that some of the protocols previously proposed in the literature, such as the Maximum Error First and the dynamic protocols, can be viewed as rollout strategies for a certain dynamic programming problem. The advantages of using rollout strategies are illustrated by a numerical example.

Healthcare targeted for home activity is playing an important role in our daily lives as the number of elderly person is increasing sharply. Researches pointed out that one third of 65-and-over aged person fall per-year. Some detection related work made use of accelerometers or gyroscopes, some use passive infrared or acoustic sensors. But there were some false alarms. Falls can be an unpredicted and dangerous event. A system based on wireless sensor networks to detect the falls for old and resident was proposed in this paper. We provided a method to minimize the false alarm rate of fall detection as well. Besides, we can detect falls that did not trigger the alarm which was intervened by outside forces.

In this paper, we introduce a new framework to compute the Average Symbol Error Probability (ASEP) of an intended wireless communication system subject to network interference and noise. The interfering nodes are assumed to be randomly distributed in the 2D Euclidean plane according to a homogeneous Poisson point process. Our framework is applicable to performance prediction and optimization of, e.g., emerging heterogeneous cellular and cognitive radio networks. More specifically, we move from and generalize the semi-analytical framework recently introduced by Pinto and Win [1], and develop a new mathematical model which offers a simple single-integral expression of the ASEP under very general channel and interference conditions. The framework is exact, avoids Monte Carlo methods for its computation, and is applicable to asynchronous and synchronous scenarios. Our numerical examples show that both setups have almost the same performance, and that the ASEP in the presence of synchronous interference is a very tight upper-bound of the ASEP in the presence of asynchronous interference. This is a relevant result, as we show in this paper that in the former case all parameters of interest can be computed in closed-form. Our analytical derivation is substantiated through extensive Monte Carlo simulations.

For purpose of detecting cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) hierarchically via hemodynamic parameters (HDPs) derived from sphygmogram, a fused hierarchical neural networks (FHNNs) scheme is proposed, which provides a noninvasive way to detect CVDs. To deduce conclusion via FHNNs, method of variance analysis is used to categorize HDPs. The categorized HDP sets are then inhaled by different sub neural networks (sub-NNs) of FHNNs according to importance and relevance of sets, and outputs of former sub-NNs are inhaled as inputs of latter sub-NNs, so that FHNNs have higher overall accuracy, especially in dealing with mixed CVDs. The sub-NNs are implemented by probabilistic neural networks (PNNs) or learning vector quantization networks (LVQ) due to their diverse advantages in dealing with different HDP categories. The preliminary testing results on site sampled data sets prove that the proposed method is promising for detecting CVDs.
