This paper proposes a novel multipath routing protocol for MANETs. The proposed protocol is a variant of the single path AODV routing protocol. The proposed multipath routing protocol establishes node-disjoint paths that have the lowest delays based on the interaction of many factors from different layers. Other delay aware MANETs routing protocols don't consider the projected contribution of the source node that is requesting a path into the total network load. The implication is that end to end delay obtained through the RREQ is not accurate any more. On the contrary of its predecessors, the proposed protocol takes into consideration the projected contribution of the source node into the computation of end to end delay. To obtain an accurate estimate of path delay, the proposed multipath routing protocol employs cross-layer communications across three layers; PHY, MAC and Routing layers to achieve link and channel-awareness and creates an update packet to keep the up to date status of the paths in terms of lowest delay. The performance of the proposed protocol investigated and compared against the single path AODV and multipath AOMDV protocols through simulation using OPNET. Results have shown that our multipath routing protocol outperforms both protocols in terms of average throughput, end to end delay and packet dropped.

Extracting environmental constraints to make reactive system specifications realizable

Many fatal accidents of safety critical reactive systems have occurred in unexpected situations which had not been considered during design and test phases of the systems. To prevent these accidents, reactive systems should be designed to respond appropriately to any requests of any timing from their environments. Verifying this property in specification phase reduces the development costs of safety critical reactive systems. This property of a specification is well known as realizability. If a specification was found not to be realizable, we have to determine the flaws in the unrealizable specification. Unrealizability of a specification arises from arbitrary requirements given by system designers. From a different point of view, it can be thought that the unrealizable specification implicitly imposes a precondition on the behavior of environment, which a system can not control. If it is possible to obtain the precondition in intuitively comprehensive forms, this makes it easy for system designers to understand the cause of flaws in specifications. In this paper, we propose methods for deriving constraints on the behavior of environments, which is implicitly imposed by unrealizable specifications. Instead of realizability, we use strong satisfiability which is a necessary condition for realizability, due to the fact that many practical unrealizable specifications are also strongly unsatisfiable, and strong satisfiability have the advantage of lower complexity for analysis against realizability. These methods derive constraints in propositional linear temporal logic from Büchi automata representing specifications. The expressions of derived constraints are limited to simple and intuitively comprehensive forms where only two temporal operators appear successively. We give proofs for three correctness properties of our methods, i.e. the termination property, the soundness property, and the weakest constraints derivability. Brain Hyperscanning, i.e. the simultaneous recording of the cerebral activity of different human subjects involved in interaction tasks, is a very recent field of Neuroscience aiming at understanding the cerebral processes generating and generated by social interactions. This approach allows the observation and modeling of the neural signature specifically dependent on the interaction between subjects, and, even more interestingly, of the functional links existing between the activities in the brains of the subjects interacting together. In this EEG hyperscanning study we explored the functional hyperconnectivity between the activity in different scalp sites of couples of Civil Aviation Pilots during different phases of a flight reproduced in a flight simulator. Results shown a dense network of connections between the two brains in the takeoff and landing phases, when the cooperation between them is maximal, in contrast with phases during which the activity of the two pilots was independent, when no or quite few links were shown. These results confirms that the study of the brain connectivity between the activity simultaneously acquired in human brains during interaction tasks can provide important information about the neural basis of the "spirit of the group".

It can be highly meaningful for individuals, institutions and even governments to extract reliable and insightful trends, opinions or particular pieces of information out of the network single web logs are embedded in - the blogo sphere. However, there has been virtually little in the way of user interfaces designed for the exploration and information gathering from the blogo sphere as a whole to allow for an integrated knowledge collection and information extraction tool. Users have to rely on their own capability to find, select or filter entries and navigate through this complex network, a task that can easily become tedious. An approach to solve this problem could be BLOGCONNECT presented in the following, a tool to visualize the inherent network characteristics of and the aggregated knowledge pool of the blogosphere.

Current regulators are a critical part of active power filters (APF's). Design of current regulators capable of compensating high frequency harmonics created by non-linear loads is a challenging task. Selective harmonic current compensation using harmonic regulators is a viable method to achieve this goal. However, their design and tuning is not an easy task. The performance -and even the stability- of harmonic current regulators strongly depends on implementation issues, with the tuning of the controller gains being critical. Furthermore, the presence of multiple current regulators working in parallel can create unwanted couplings with the fundamental current regulator, which can result in a deterioration of APF current control, i.e., oscillations and settling times larger than expected. This paper addresses the design and tuning of selective harmonic compensators, with a focus on their stability analysis and transient behavior.

Enterprises outsourcing their databases to the cloud and authorizing multiple users for access represents a typical use scenario of cloud storage services. In such a case of database outsourcing, data encryption is a good approach enabling the data owner to retain its control over the outsourced data. Searchable encryption is a cryptographic primitive allowing for private keyword based search over the encrypted database. The above setting of enterprise outsourcing database to the cloud requires multi-user searchable encryption, whereas virtually all of the existing schemes consider the single-user setting. To bridge this gap, we are motivated to propose a practical multi-user searchable encryption scheme, which has a number of advantages over the known approaches. The associated model and security requirements are also formulated. We further discuss to extend our scheme in several ways so as to achieve different search capabilities. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper employing double layer printed spiral coils (PSCs) is proposed for wireless power transmission in implantable biomedical applications. Detailed modeling of this type of PSCs is presented. Both calculations and measurements of fabricated double layer PSCs indicate that this structure can decrease the size of typical single layer PSCs without any change in the most important parameters of the coils, such as quality factor. Also, it is shown that with equal PSC dimensions and design parameters, double layer PSCs achieve significantly higher inductances and quality factors. Ultimately, a pair of double layer PSCs with a distance of 5 mm in air is used in an inductive link. The power transfer efficiency of this link is about 79.8% with a carrier frequency of 5 MHz and coupling coefficient of 0.189.

A number of techniques have been proposed for state-based testing. One well-known technique (criterion) is to traverse the graph representing the state machine and generate a so-called transition tree, in an attempt to exercise round trip paths, i.e., paths that start and end in the same state without any other repeating state. Several hypotheses are made when one uses this criterion: exercising paths in the tree, which do not always trigger complete round trip paths, is equivalent to covering round-trip paths;different traversal algorithms are equivalent. In this paper we investigate whether these assumptions hold in practice, and if they do not, we investigate their consequences. Results also lead us to propose a new transition tree construction algorithm that results in higher efficiency and lower cost. © 2010 IEEE.

Recently, physical layer security (PHY-SEC) has been investigated for wireless communications to prevent eavesdropping without upper layer data encryption. This paper addresses multibeam satellite secure communication using PHY-SEC. We propose a novel system design that minimizes the satellite transmit power subject to the individual secrecy rate requested per user constraints. An iterative algorithm is proposed to update the transmission power of each beam and to achieve the optimal power allocation strategy. The convergence property of the algorithm is proved under justifiable assumptions. The performance is evaluated taking into account the impact of the channel condition with given individual secrecy rate requirement.
