In this contribution, we present a new application based on fuzzy linguistic information to evaluate the quality of digital libraries. The quality evaluation of digital libraries is defined using users' perceptions on the quality of digital services provided through their Web sites. We assume a fuzzy linguistic modeling to represent the users' perception and apply automatic tools of fuzzy computing with words based on some weighted aggregation operators to compute global quality evaluations of digital libraries.

Wireless networks such as WiFi suffer communication performance issues in addition to those seen on wired networks due to the characteristics of the radio communication channel used by their Physical Layers (PHY). Understanding these issues is a complex but necessary task given the importance of wireless networks for the transfer of wide ranging packet steams including video as well as traditional data. Simulators are not accurate enough to allow all the intricacies of such communication to be accurately understood, especially when complex interactions between the protocols of different layers occurs. The paper suggests cross layer measurement as a solution to the problem of understanding and analysis of such complex communication issues and proposes a framework in which appropriate performance measurements can be made from a WiFi network supporting a video streaming application. The framework has been used to collect these measurements at the PHY, MAC, Transport and Application layers. Analysis of the collected measurements has allowed the effects of noise interference at the PHY to be related to the perceived performance at the Application Layer for a video streaming application. This has allowed the effect of the SNR on the download time of a video sequence to be studied.

Its thread-based architecture enables it to run on high-end HPC machines as well as on embedded environments as soft-core processor in FPGAs. This paper is to propose a method for dept. estimation in a 2D image using wavelet analysis. According to our observations, the high frequency components represent focused objects in images of limited dept. of field (DOF) and their high frequency wavelet subbands contain high energy. In our approach, each image is first transformed to YUV domain and the Y component is extracted for further analysis. Afterwards, the high frequency bands are derived with wavelet analysis. Through two stages of smoothing and scale manipulation, the dept. map data with less error can be used for some 3D display. The experimental result shows that the proposed approach is effective and efficient for dept. map estimation.

We present a novel approach for generating stylized artistic rendering of caricatures from a given face image,with the ability to map any one of the main six expressions and control the degree of its expressiveness on the generated caricature. Our method achieves this by manipulating the facial appearance and expressivity of the caricature,using quadratic deformation model representations of facial expressions.A stroke-based non-photorealistic rendering(NPR) engine is developed to generate the output caricature that appears to be a sketch of the original *** NPR engine segments the defined rendering path and generates rectangular strokes that approximate each segment. The stroke properties arc computed by applying geometric image moments on each *** enhance the overall appearance of the caricature,extra strokes are randomly positioned around the rendering *** results show that from an input neutral facial image,expressive rendered caricatures are generated for the facial expressions neutral,smile,sad,fear,surprise,disgust, and *** approach produces very expressive artistically rendered caricatures,and could lead to future research directions in further extending the method to produce pencil sketch rendering of images or rendering 3D characters to generate cartoon-like 3D characters.

This paper proposes a mobile station (MS)-controlled fast MAC-layer handover (HO) scheme to reduce the HO latency in Mobile WiMAX. Based on the received signal strength (RSS) from any Base Station (BS), the MS can estimate its present distance from that BS. This capability allows the MS, through utilization of the broadcast messages by its Serving BS (SBS) and through few scannings of the Neighbouring BSs (NBS), to self-track its own direction of motion relative to the SBS and the NBSs and thus look ahead to perform an intelligent choice of the Target BS (TBS) for the impending HO. Simulation studies have shown a considerable reduction in the HO latency in the proposed method.
