In this paper, a work on representing plastic bottle shape using erosion based approach for an automated classification is reported. Morphological operations are used to describe the structure or form of an image. By using the two-dimensional description of plastic bottle silhouettes, edge detection of the object silhouette is performed followed by the erosion process. This work will compare two versions of erosion which are regular erosion, the Matlab function imerode and the improved version of erosion which is called partial erosion. Normalization procedure in which the sum pixel value after erosion is divided by the sum pixel of the whole silhouette is done. The normalized values are grouped into histograms of 9 bins of sum pixel value(9HbSPV), find its maximum number to form as a feature set and is then used as inputs to train a neural network for plastic bottle shape classification. Results obtained showed that the proposed feature extraction method can be applied to discriminate plastic bottles according to shape, either slim or broad bottles, efficiently.

Infrared (IR) sensors are widely used on robotics platforms for measurement purposes. Low-cost small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have drawn broad interests during recent years for their various uses in many applications. This paper introduces a two-stage IR sensor calibration method for the attitude estimation of low-cost UAVs. The first stage is based on ground and flight tuning procedures, which are concluded from experience;the second stage is to use the calibration algorithm with inertial measurement unit (IMU) as the baseline reference. The implementation and optimization of the proposed algorithm is described and explained in detail. The experimental flight results are compared and discussed in the end.

Installation of video collection devices (CCTV) that can be used to determine the road situation in real time has been expanded recently. This trend reflects the fact that image information is preferred by the road operators and users due to characteristics like immediacy, accuracy, conciseness and visibility. Since the CCTV system that is being operated at the present by the Traffic Information Center is run by operators, however, difficulty in operation will increase as the number of CCTV systems increases. When an accident like an incident occurs, rapid response will be difficult because verification will be late. Since there is functional demand for environmental information like direction information, location information and environment information that are difficult to determine with just image information, text information is displayed simultaneously with the image information. The goal of this paper is to improve service by transferring the passing pattern conveniently in video and images by adding functions which allow vehicle flow to be determined. The improvement method that is being proposed has the advantage of making it possible for the real time traffic information to be understood together with image information. This is accomplished by processing the CCTV image data so that it can be displayed together with the traffic data after analyzing and processing the traffic information that is entered so that traffic data that is collected at the corresponding point is displayed through the CCTV monitor when real time situation of the road is observed through the CCTV system. The Shipborne combat system (SCS) includes many application systems. The integration of application systems is necessary because they are distributed and need to complete combat tasks together. For such integration, an integration model needs to be developed. Firstly, the integration framework of application systems of SCS is introduced, which involves three layers: data integration, function integration and workflow integration. Secondly, integration metamodel based on the framework is discussed. Data, application system, function, component, workflow and their relationships are explained in detail. Finally, a system integration modeling language for application system design (SIML4ASD) based on the metamodel is defined by extending UML using profile mechanism. A case study of antisubmarine combat is given to explain the use of SIML4ASD. Since it is an extension of UML, STML4ASD is easy to learn, understand and use for the system designers and can be used to describe the integration model clearly and exactly in multi-view.

In orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system, the frequency offset in mobile radio channel leads to the loss of sub-carrier orthogonality which causes inter-carrier interference (ICI). As a result, the performance of the system will degrade. The authors have proposed an efficient scheme for ICI cancellation. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional self cancellation scheme in terms of BER and ICI components.
