This paper explores the problem of multi-sensor robust H_(infinity) fusion filtering for a class of discrete-time stochastic nonlinear systems with missing measurement and time delays. This discrete-time nonlinear system model is composed of a linear dynamic system and a bounded static nonlinear operator. The missing measurements from multi-sensors are described by a binary switching sequence that obeys a conditional probability distribution. By employing the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional method with the stochastic analysis approach, a centralized fusion filter is designed such that, for all possible missing observations, the fusion error systems is globally asymptotically stable in the mean square, and the prescribed H_(infinity) performance constraint is met. A simulation example is provided to illustrate the design procedure and expected performance.

This paper deals with the problem of designing a distributed fault detection and isolation methodology for nonlinear discrete-time dynamical systems that are modelled as the interconnection of several subsystems. The subsystems are allowed to overlap, thus sharing some state components. For each subsystem, a Local Fault Diagnoser is designed, based on the measured local state of the subsystem as well as the transmitted variables of neighboring states that define the subsystem interconnections. The local diagnostic decision is made on the basis of the knowledge of the local subsystem dynamic model and of an adaptive approximation of the interconnection with neighboring subsystems. A Global Fault Diagnoser is introduced to isolate distributed faults that cannot be isolated locally. The use of a specially-designed consensus-based estimator is proposed in order to improve the detectability and isolability of faults affecting variables shared among different subsystems. Simulation results are utilized to illustrate of the effectiveness of the proposed distributed fault diagnosis methodology.

Fuzzy control is a nonlinear control method;its performance depends on the fuzzy control rules, quantification factor and the scale factor. Because these multiple objectives are influence with each others, therefore it is very difficult to ensure the control effect only rely on expertise's experience. In this paper, dynamic evolutionary algorithm is adopted to optimize the multi-objectives in fuzzy controller. In dynamic evolutionary algorithm, based on the competitive relationship between particles' free energy and entropy in the phase space system, a new option strategy is put forward which is used to maintain species diversity;furthermore, multi-parent crossover operator is selected. This operator selects some individuals to form a space and then do searching in this space. This algorithm has strong ability to find the solutions of the problem, and it also run quickly compared with other traditional algorithms. Simulation results show that fuzzy controller optimized by the algorithm has good steady-state response time, steady-state error and overshoot. ©2010 IEEE.

Google has recently released the video compression format VP8 to the open source community. This new compression format competes against the existing H.264 video standard developed by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) in collaboration with the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). This paper compares these two video coding standards in terms of video bit rate-distortion (quality) performance and the video network traffic variability with different long video sequences. We find that VP8 presently does not fulfill its promise to achieve twice the quality at half the bandwidth compared to H.264. The rate-distortion (RD) performance of VP8 is rather slightly below the RD performance of H.264. On the positive side, in contrast to H.264, VP8 has no license fees.

We propose a method to detect events and event boundaries in soccer videos by using web-casting texts and audio-visual features. The events and their inaccurate time information given in web-casting texts need to be aligned with the visual content of the video. We overcome this issue by utilizing textual, visual and audio features. Existing methods assume that the time at which the event occurs is given precisely (in seconds). However, most web-casting texts presented by popular organizations such as *** (the official site of Union of European Football Associations) provide the time information in minutes rather than seconds. We propose a robust method which is able to handle uncertainties in the time points of the events. As a result of our experiments, we claim that our method detects event boundaries satisfactorily for uncertain web-casting texts, and that the use of audio-visual features improves the performance of event boundary detection.

Background: The fix-cache approach to regression test selection was proposed to identify the most fault-prone files and corresponding test cases through analysis of fixed defect reports. Aim: The study aims at evaluating the efficiency of this approach, compared to the previous regression test selection strategy in a major corporation, developing embedded systems. Method: We launched a post-hoc case study applying the fix-cache selection method during six iterations of development of a multi-million LOC product. The test case execution was monitored through the test management and defect reporting systems of the company. Results: From the observations, we conclude that the fix-cache method is more efficient in four iterations. The difference is statistically significant at α = 0.05. Conclusions: The new method is significantly more efficient in our case study. The study will be replicated in an environment with better control of the test execution.

Intelligence is generally defined as the capability to complete a task or achieve a goal in an uncertain environment. Some characteristics of intelligence include adaptability, capability for self-optimization based upon some goal or goals, capability for performing self-diagnostics and self-maintenance, and the capability to learn and reason. This paper presents a suggested set of requirements that may be needed for the development and advancement of machine intelligence. Several intelligent systems have been proposed including expert systems, neural networks, case-based reasoning, and evolutionary programming. What is lacking, a priori, is a shared understanding of what intelligence is and what practical embodiment of intelligence will serve to realize systems of intelligent systems, or in other words, intelligence in the large. In this paper, we argue for randomization, granularization, and transformation as the three legs underpinning machine intelligence. This position is further enhanced through a good I/O mechanism and a predicate-based natural language expressive formalism. A "Knowledge Amplification by Structural Expert Randomization" system called the Type 6 KASER (T6K) is illustrated.

This paper presents a novel method for mobile robot navigation by visual environments where there are obstacles in the workspace. The method uses a path selection mechanism that creates innovative paths through the workspace and learns to use trajectory that are more assured. This approach is implemented on motion robots which verified the shortest path via Quad-tree Decomposition (QD) and then used Voronoi Diagrams (VD(S)) algorithm we called (Q&V) algorithm. Based on the experimental data, we claim the robot's trajectory planned by Q&V algorithm is the better find and control the roadmap is completely modeled and hasn't the localization errors. We show that even small modeled obstacles can cause large used from the preplanned path. Our complementary approach of path selection decreases the risk of path following and increases the predictability of robot's behavior.

Mobile learning is considered the next step of online learning by incorporating mobility as a key requirement. Indeed, the current wide spread of mobile devices and wireless technologies brings an enormous potential to e-learning, in terms of ubiquity, pervasiveness, personalization, flexibility, and so on. For this reason, Mobile Learning is attracting significant research efforts covering a fairly variety of learning settings, from schools and universities to workplaces and cities. This research has evidenced that mobile technology can offer new opportunities for learners to learn inside and beyond the traditional instructor-oriented educational paradigm. However, mobile technologies are still in its infancy and many challenges arise. In this paper we analyze, from both learning and technological perspectives, the development of learning applications using mobile devices. To this end, proxy and proxy less architectures are considered as way to extend traditional virtual campuses with mobile clients. The objective is twofold: to access learning materials and to support learning activities. A prototype of a Virtual Campus is developed using MLE-Moodle -the Mobile Learning module of Moodle. The proposed Virtual Campus enables mobile clients to perform online learning activities and is a step towards achieving the “anytime, anywhere” paradigm.

In this paper, a hierarchical multirate control scheme for nonlinear discrete-time systems is proposed, composed of a robust model predictive controller (MPC) and a multirate integral sliding mode (MISM) controller. In particular, the MISM controller acts at a faster sampling time than the MPC controller, and reduces the effect of model uncertainties and external disturbances, in order to obtain, at the next sampling instant of the MPC controller, a value of the system state that is as close as possible to the nominal one. To obtain this result, the control variable is composed of two parts: one generated by the MPC controller, and the other by the MISM controller. The a-priori reduction of the disturbance terms turns out to be very useful in order to improve the convergence properties of the MPC controller.
