The use of subband autoregressive (AR) modeling for speech enhancement is discussed. The parametric form of the AR model provides an efficient and low-variance representation of the speech signal spectrum. This allows for significant compression benefits in speech communications and can be applied to speech signal enhancement. Speech enhancement algorithms make an effort to remove the additive noise without distorting the desired speech signal. Kalman filter speech enhancement provides high quality enhanced speech with natural sounding residual noise by enforcing an AR model structure. An alternative to using a single high-order AR model is to use a filterbank to decompose the speech and to model each subband channel with a significantly low-order AR model.

This paper presents an adaptive routing protocol named Adaptive Route Selection in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (ARSMA). The aim of this work is to improve the delivery ratio and reduce the end-to-end delay. In the route request phase, source nodes will discovery multiple routes to the destination node, one for primary path, and the others for the backup paths. During the discovery procedure, each node will estimate the link expire time by way of the moving speed and direction of the precursor node. When a link breakage is about to occur, source node will try to switch the transmission to the backup route. The simulation result shows that ARSMA is able to improve the delivery ratio and reduce the end-to-end delay.

Field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) commonly implement system architectures composed from soft-core configurable components, such as a cache with configurable size or associativity, a processor with configurable datapath units, or a configurable network-on-chip connecting dozens of processors. Configurable components increasingly exist even on prefabricated platforms. Tuning configurable components to the particular application running on the architecture and to particular design constraints represents a challenging task often left to a designer. Knowledge of the Pareto-optimal points of a system for particular applications can be of benefit to designers seeking to make appropriate design tradeoffs for given constraints. Previous methods for generating Pareto points required extensive knowledge of an architecture's parameter interdependencies, used a simplistic approach that failed to find many parameters, or used randomized search algorithms that may have long runtimes. We introduce an algorithm for finding Pareto points, based on statistically rigorous methods derived from the Design of Experiments paradigm and extended for the purpose of finding Pareto points. The resulting DoE-based Pareto point Generator, or DPG, algorithm finds thorough Pareto points while running 3 times faster than randomized search algorithms, without requiring designer knowledge of parameter interdependencies-in fact, the approach determines those interdependencies automatically, representing an added bonus. We demonstrate DPG on Platune's configurable processor-bus-cache system-on-chip, Noxim's configurable network-on-chip, and the configurable Microblaze FPGA processor. Copyright 2009 ACM.

We present a 3D origami simulator with multi-touch interaction. This is a preliminary exploration of manipulating 3D models with multi-touch. Following a user centered approach, we analyzed how people make paper origami models and mapped the common actions into two-touch gestures. The user study suggested that people enjoyed the simulator and think the techniques can be applied to other 3D modeling environments.
