A new algorithm based on Modified Particle Swarm Optimization (MPSO) that follows is a local gradient of a chemical concentration within a plume and follows the direction of the wind velocity is investigated. Moreover, the niche characteristic is adopted to solve the multi-peak and multi-source problem. Simulations results demonstrate that the new approach is reliable for The Advection-Diffusion odor robotic model. Finally, the statistical analysis shows this new approach is technically sound.

This paper describes an efficient method for retrieving the 3-dimensional shape associated to novelties in the environment of an autonomous robot, which is equipped with a laser range finder. First, changes are detected over the point clouds using a combination of the Gaussian mixture model (GMM) and the earth mover's distance (EMD) algorithms. Next, the shape retrieval is achieved using two different algorithms. First, new samplings are generated from each Gaussian function, followed by a random sampling consensus (RANSAC) algorithm to retrieve geometric primitives. Furthermore, a new algorithm is developed to directly retrieve the shape according to the mathematical space of Gaussian mixture. In this paper, the set of geometric primitives has been limited to the set C = {sphere, cylinder, plane} . The two shape retrieval methods are compared in terms of computational cost and accuracy. Experimental results in various real and simulated scenarios demonstrate the feasibility of the approach.

Applications increasingly make use of the distributed platform that the World Wide Web provides - be it as a software-as-a-Service such as ***, an application infrastructure such as ***, or a computing infrastructure such as a "cloud". A common characteristic of applications of this kind is that they are deployed on infrastructure or make use of components that reside in different management domains. Current service management approaches and systems, however, often rely on a centrally managed configuration management database (CMDB), which is the basis for centrally orchestrated service management processes, in particular change management and incident management. The distribution of management responsibility of WWW based applications requires a decentralized approach to service management. This paper proposes an approach of decentralized service management based on distributed configuration management and service process co-ordination, making use RESTful access to configuration information and ATOM-based distribution of updates as a novel foundation for service management processes. In this paper, we compare two multicast adaptive techniques for reliable data delivery in GEO satellite networks. Specifically, a channel-aware scheduling algorithm is compared with a multicast link adaptation technique, in the face of fluctuating channel conditions in downlink. The aim of the techniques is to maximise system throughput whilst increasing resource utilization. The scheduling technique is implemented within one forward bearer subtype, whereas the link adaptation mechanism considers transmission rates from a list of possible forward bearer subtypes. Simulation results are analysed and it is found that multicast link adaptation technique outperforms channel-aware scheduling algorithm, in terms of reduced session delay and retransmitted number of segments.

This paper proposes a smart video surveillance system with real-time moving object (primarily human) detection and identification for solving the problem of excessive power consumption in indoor public places. The proposed detection system is able to handle several known constraints such as changing illumination conditions, occlusion, clutter or even irrelevant extraneous motion. It keeps track of the number of humans in the vicinity and takes measures to gradually increase or decrease the luminosity depending on the number of people within its sight.

A hierarchical Nonlinear Model Predictive Control (NMPC) scheme with guaranteed Input-to-State-practical-Stability (ISpS) is proposed. The controller is formed by an Integral Sliding Mode (ISM) controller and a NMPC one. The ISM, relying on the knowledge of the nominal continuous-time model of the system and of the piecewise constant control signal generated by the NMPC produces a control action aimed at reducing the difference between the dynamics of the nominal closed-loop system and the actual evolution of the state. The NMPC in this way can be designed based on a system with reduced uncertainty. In order to prove the stability of the overall control scheme, some general Regional ISpS results for continuous-time systems are proven.
