A circuit technique for increasing the maximum output voltage slew rate (SR) of an integrated operational amplifier (OpAmp) with the HA2700 microchip architecture based on the modernization of the input differential stage (DS) is considered. An OpAmp architecture is proposed in which the influence of parasitic capacitances of DS reference current sources and capacitances on the transistor substrate on the SR is minimized. This allows the use of micron technological processes in the fabrication of CBJT OpAmps, which are widely used to improve the radiation resistance of microchips. Computer simulation of the proposed OpAmp is performed, which shows that the SR of the new circuit differs from the SR of the well-known serial OpAmp by more than 40 times and reaches values of about 800 V/µs at the emitter current of the input transistors of the DC in the range of up to 80-100 μA. The developed OpAmp is recommended for practical use in discrete-to-analog filters on switched capacitors.

The cooperative adaptive cruise control (CACC) functionality received significant interest in the state-of-the-art due to its advantages in optimizing traffic flow. The model-based predictive control (MPC) strategy was used in various studies due to its advantages in improving the performance of the vehicles (reducing the travel costs, improving the quality of the travel by reducing sudden accelerations, and ensuring the stability of the platoons). Moreover, MPC solutions are built to maximize the advantages of vehicular communication by sharing predictions on states of vehicles (e.g., velocities, accelerations, trajectories). In addition, MPC is also used to compensate for the disturbances added by communications. Thus, this paper proposes a CACC strategy for a vehicle platoon. The solution is based on the distributed MPC (DMPC) strategy, and the controller is proposed in discrete time, ensuring predecessor-follower string stability for the whole platoon.

This work considers the synthesis of state feedback controllers established as deep artificial feed-forward neural networks for the control of discrete-time nonlinear but input-affine systems. The idea is to design output layers of particular structure to guarantee the satisfaction of state constraints in form of control-invariant ellipsoids. Since an analytical expression can be derived for the resulting neural network controller, the latter can be stored and evaluated efficiently. Moreover, the proposed output layer guarantees the satisfaction of the considered state constraints for each specification of the parameter vector. Numerical examples are provided for illustration and evaluation of the approach, in which the approximation of a nonlinear model predictive control law is considered as application.

State-of-the-art techniques for modeling, analysis and control of three-phase electrical systems belong to the real-valued multi-input/multi-output (MIMO) domain, or to the complex-valued nonlinear single-input/single-output (SISO) domain. In order to complement both domains while simplifying complexity and offering new analysis and design perspectives, this paper introduces the application of geometric algebra (GA) principles to the modeling, analysis and control of three-phase electrical systems. The key contribution for the modeling part is the identification of the transformation that allows transferring real-valued linear MIMO systems into GA-valued linear SISO representations (with independence of having a balanced or unbalanced system). Closed-loop stability analysis in the new space is addressed by using intrinsic properties of GA. In addition, a recipe for designing stabilizing and decoupling GA-valued controllers is provided. A discrete-analog filter of the second order with three frequency-setting capacitors has been developed, where the electronic keys are controlled by pulse sequences that do not intersect in time. It has been shown that in the proposed filter the pole frequency can be changed by changing the capacitance of the capacitor C1. In this case, the pole attenuation depends on the resistance of the resistor R5, the transmission coefficients are changed by resistors R1 or R2, and when changing one of the parameters, all other filter parameters remain unchanged. The performance of this filter is confirmed by the results of computer modeling in the Micro-Cap environment.

The averaged model of a current source inverter (CSI) as a voltage source inverter (VSI) dual is presented in this paper. The differential equations defining the CSI are in-troduced in matrix representation for phase-to-phase and phase-to-neutral voltages and expressed using the Clarke and Park transformations. This multiple-input, multiple-output system is studied through the transfer function matrix of the linearized model, and the results are related to original CSI dynamics. Finally, open-loop simulations using Matlab/Simulink and realtime Typhoon-HIL have been carried out to validate the models.

system identification (SysID) is the art and science of dealing with dynamic data modelling problems from systems science perspectives. It has been an active field and is still very active today, due to its wide range of applications, especially its basic principles of finding transparent, interpretable and parsimonious models for different purposes. The past decades have witnessed the explosive growth in machine learning (ML) and its applications in all areas of science and engineering. Meanwhile, there has been an increasing demand for the development of transparent, explainable and/or interpretable ML models. This paper proposes a new framework for developing system Identification-informed Transparent and Explainable MAchine Learning (SITEMAL) models. A case study, involving a real power consumption dataset, is presented to demonstrate the application of the proposed modelling framework and its performance for power consumption forecasting. © 2023 IEEE.

Autonomous decision-making has always been one of the primary goals to pursue as concerns mobile robots. Researchers of this field have recently turned their attention to Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL). This paper presents a Double Deep Q Network architecture for managing the high level decisions of a mobile robot involved in a site servicing task. We imagined a scenario where an autonomous service robot must react to alarms due to failures in its area of interest; the robot must have onboard the necessary servicing tool by resorting to a tool change station if needed, reach the area of the failure and fix it, while at the same time handling its battery status. One of the key properties, yet rarely examined, when it comes to robots' long-term independence is the energy-awareness, namely the ability of autonomously managing the charge state as a function of current and future needs. The proposed Deep Q Network training reward scheme is defined specifically to obtain an energy-aware high-level controller, by penalizing both extremely low levels of battery charge as well as unnecessary recharges. The model is numerically simulated on a graph scenario constituted of several failure and charging nodes. Results show that the trained agent always succeeds in reaching the destination without ever incurring in a complete discharge, as it promptly performs temporary stops at charging locations whenever needed.

The strategic vision outlined in the EU Energy Road Map suggests that, by the year 2050, the use of ocean wave energy could fulfill up to 15% of the European Union's energy demands, while allowing a substantial reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, estimated at 136 million metric tons per megawatt-hour. The Spanish Renewable Energies Plan echoes this vision, placing a particular emphasis on the role of wave energy within Spain's energy portfolio. In this milieu, Oscillating Water Column (OWC) converters are emerging as a leading technology for the conversion of wave energy, able to operate from both terrestrial and marine platforms. This study introduces a detailed analytical model for the wave capture chamber of a static OWC wave energy generator, which has been specifically developed and parameterized for the Mutriku Marine Offshore Wave Power Plant (Mutriku's MOWC), located on the coastline of the Basque Country in Spain. The validation of the proposed model is conducted through the utilization of in-situ measured wave input data, alongside the experimental power output data procured from the operational plant. This dual-faceted validation approach ensures the robustness and applicability of the model in real-world scenarios.

Heat exchangers are utilized in various industrial applications such as power generation, petroleum refinery, coal plants, etc. It is essential to model and control these applications to meet the desired outputs. This paper takes the experimental values of the heat exchanger, uses system identification techniques to model it, and then develops control schemes to control the same. Initially, conventional feedback control is developed. A feedforward algorithm is then added to regulate the external disturbances. Subsequently, the advanced control algorithms such as Internal Model control and Linear Quadratic Gaussian are implemented. The control starts from developing a simple Feedback control, then adding a feedforward controller to regulate the external disturbances and then advancing to Internal Model control and finally a Linear Quadratic Gaussian control. The responses, namely: servo responses (reference tracking), regulatory responses (input and output rejections), noise rejection responses, robust responses, and sudden step test responses, are compared for all the mentioned control schemes. Finally, the paper compares the four algorithms and gives an insight into each of their characteristics. © 2021 IEEE.
