The paper shows the process of developing a model of multistage evaporator station of a sugar factory based on a neural network. The neural network predicts the main performance indicators of the multistage evaporator station, such as the concentration of syrup at the output of the evaporator and the amount of evaporated water at the station. Unlike existing solutions, forecasting is performed in real time based on a set of indicators of the automation system (temperatures, flow rates, levels, pressure, density in the apparatus) and industrial laboratory (concentration of solids at the inlet to the evaporation station). The proposed neural network model has an MLP structure with 27 inputs, 2 outputs and one hidden layer with 20 neurons and predicts these indicators with an error of less than 5%. This allows to increase the informative support of the operator-technologist on the quality indicators of the enterprise without additional load on the industrial laboratory and without additional cost automatic quality devices, as well as to perform timely adjustment of the technological mode of the department. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper addresses the problem of adaptive output regulation of a minimum-phase MIMO LTI system in the presence of un-modeled (fast) input dynamics. The adoption of a post-processing tunable internal model makes it possible to implement standard methods for the analysis of two-time-scale systems. The proposed adaptation law guarantees, under suitable hypotheses, convergence to zero of the regulation error as well as of the parameter estimation error.

Modeling trajectories in cigarette smoking prevalence, initiation and quitting for populations and subgroups of populations is important for policy planning and evaluation. This paper proposes an agent-based model (ABM) design for simulating the smoking behaviors of a population using the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation - Behavior (COM-B) model. Capability, Opportunity and Motivation are modeled as latent composite attributes which are composed of observable factors associated with smoking behaviors. Three forms of the COM-B model are proposed to explain the transitions between smoking behaviors: initiating regular smoking uptake, making a quit attempt and quitting successfully. The ABM design follows object-oriented principles and extends an existing generic software architecture for mechanism-based modeling. The potential of the model to assess the impact of smoking policies is illustrated and discussed.

computer networks provide exceptional privacy, primarily for testing and other educational activities. However, the security of computer networks is an exceptionally touchy subject, mainly when applied in labs and tests for educational purposes. Any software system created on a server typically requires a username and password to access a collection of computers on a particular network. The proposed work devised and implemented a neural network feedback network with four inputs (I.P. address, MAC address, user number, and time) and an output that represents the user's acceptance or rejection. A few instances of the data and numbers needed to train the neural network include the lab's address, the student's name, the academic stage's address, etc. Good results were obtained through the company's training and education, which was tested on more than 200 models, and the response aligned with the data. No user can access the network without first being recognized by the proposed network by comparing the pre-trained data to ensure they are authorized to take the exam or enter for any other reason.

With increasing renewable generation, demand response, and deregulation, power networks are becoming more uncertain, time-varying, and strongly coupled. As a result, the conventional approach of performing separate economic dispatch (ED) and load-frequency control (LFC) operations may no longer guarantee smooth and cost-efficient regulation of frequency across interconnected power networks. To address this, we present a tracking model predictive control (MPC) algorithm which simultaneously achieves economic dispatch and secondary frequency control in a multi-area power network. A unique feature of the proposed algorithm is that it exploits the implicit feedback in MPC to regulate the interconnected power system towards steady-state equilibria that solve a multi-area economic dispatch problem, without explicitly computing the latter as a reference to be followed or estimating the unknown disturbances. This feedback-based optimization approach endows the algorithm with inherent robustness to uncertainty (such as unknown step changes in the demand). Simulation results for a two-area power network show improved steady-state economic performance compared to standard MPC-based frequency control schemes, and better dynamic performance compared to other feedback-based optimization schemes.

This paper presents an FPGA-based low-power acceleration of sound source localization in HARK, open-source software for robot audition. Due to the massive matrix operations, sound source localization in HARK takes substantial processing time in edge computing devices. To balance processing time and low power consumption, two functions in sound source localization that include many matrix operations are targeted and migrated on an FPGA SoC board called M-KUBOS. Compared to CPU-based computing on ARM Cortex A53, our implementation achieved a 2.0× speedup and 1.7× lower energy consumption.

This paper addresses the topic of modeling complex systems and introduces a new formal framework. It starts with an extensive overview on the context of complex systems, major research and application directions and general requirements in terms of modeling with an emphasis on the Cyber Physical systems paradigm. Afterwards, five key modeling formalisms which address various aspects of complex systems are presented. The formal contribution of this paper is ultimately introduced. The approach is based on integrating in a unified architecture multiple modeling formalisms that are dynamically re-configured inside a modeling environment. A particular implementation of the framework is further defined for integrating relational models, probabilities and numerical information. © 2021, Politechnica University of Bucharest. Purpose. The aim of this work is to compare the effectiveness of various methods for correcting cell failures in cascade high voltage frequency converters. These methods provide the smallest voltage drop on the motor, the least loads and oscillation of electromagnetic torque in an accident modes, and evaluate the effectiveness of pulse width modulation (PWM) methods with the injection of third harmonic and space-vector PWM in normal and emergency modes. Methodology. We use mathematical and geometrical interpretation of all analysed methods - Sinusoidal PWM (SPWM), Balanced sinusoidal PWM (BSPWM), Balanced PWM with injected 3rd harmonic (THPWM) and Balanced Space Vector PWM (SVPWM). Results. The method of balancing the phase-to-phase voltages by to such a shift of the zero point and rotation of the phase vectors, in which the amplitude of the phase-to-phase voltage decreases to the minimum possible value. Injection of the 3rd harmonic allows you to further increase the utilisation factor of power supplies in terms of voltage. But the violation of the symmetry of the phase voltages leads to the need to reduce the voltage amplitude to exclude saturation of the power supplies, which reduces this coefficient compared to the theoretically possible 15.6%. A distinctive feature of the method of balanced Space Vector PWM is that the amplitude of the 1st harmonic is always greater than the radius of the circle by 15.6%. Comparison of methods of space vector PWM (SVPWM), balancing of phase-to-phase voltage with the injection of the 3rd harmonic (THPWM) with sinusoidal PWM shows that SVPWM is the best method. Despite the more complex mathematical software for the implementation of this method, it provides the best performance in all considered emergency modes of 3...6 cascade converters. This paper proposes a user selection scheme for federated learning (FL) over wireless networks to reduce communication time based on channel capacity. In particular, the edge server calculates the Shannon channel capacity of each client for each round, and clients with a certain threshold capacity are randomly selected to participate in FL. We show that the convergence time of the proposed scheme outperformed that of the conventional scheme through computer simulation based on an image processing task under a wireless channel with pass-loss, shadowing, and Rician flat-fading. Moreover, the superiority of FL to centralized learning (CL) regarding total time is demonstrated theoretically and validated through computer simulation.
