In the present paper, a hybrid architecture based on multi-agent systems is proposed, where it is included a module for formal evaluation. This module, allows the processes verification involved in the level/layer/environment steps. It is also developed a methodology for trajectory tracking based on the generation of a reliable virtual space, on which the navigation takes place under operative conditions (safety and effectiveness). Time processing operations reduction is expected during the inspection.

In this paper, an asymmetrical ΓZ-source hybrid power converter is proposed for fuel cell-battery hybrid vehicle application. The converter uses an asymmetrical ΓZ-source converter to interface the fuel cell and a bidirectional DC-DC converter to interface the battery. Via the DC-DC converter, the capacitor voltage of the asymmetrical ΓZ-source converter can be controlled into a constant value. By adjusting the modulation index of the inverter, the fuel cell voltage can be controlled into the reference value, which can ensure high operation efficiency in the fuel cell. To reduce the number of semiconductor switching in the shoot through states, the space vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM) control method is implemented for achieve the maximum constant boost control for the asymmetrical ΓZ-source inverter. To verify the validity of the proposed power converter topology and the control methods, the real-time simulation model is performed in Opal-RT Real Time Digital Simulator. The simulation results demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed methods. © 2014 IEEE.

We propose an improved proposal distribution in the Particle Metropolis-Hastings (PMH) algorithm for Bayesian parameter inference in nonlinear state space models. This proposal incorporates second-order information about the parameter posterior distribution, which can be extracted from the particle filter already used within the PMH algorithm. The added information makes the proposal scale-invariant, simpler to tune and can possibly also shorten the burn-in phase. The proposed algorithm has a computational cost which is proportional to the number of particles, i.e. the same as the original marginal PMH algorithm. Finally, we provide two numerical examples that illustrates some of the possible benefits of adding the second-order information. © IFAC.

The voltage ripples of the half-bridge rectifier lead to the requirement on bulky electrolytic capacitors and voltage difference on the split capacitors. In this paper, a topology for a single-phase rectifier is proposed to reduce the DC-bus voltage ripples and voltage difference without using electrolytic capacitors. The proposed rectifier contains two legs: 1) A rectification leg to maintain the DC-bus voltage and to draw a clean input current with unity power factor;2) A neutral leg to reduce DC-bus voltage ripples and the voltage difference. The two legs are independently controlled and the resulted high performance of the system is achieved. In order to test the system, real-time simulations were conducted and associated results are presented to demonstrate that the system is able to considerably reduce the DC-bus voltage ripples. With the derived system, the total required DC-bus capacitors can be reduced a lot when achieving the same level of voltage ripples. © 2014 IEEE.

In hybrid energy systems, batteries and supercapacitors are usually taken as storage mechanisms for smoothing output power, start-up transition, and various load conditions. As a result, developing hybrid power conversion systems has become an attractive research topic. In this study, a compact non-isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter is proposed to interface two DC power sources, which mainly benefit with reduced power switches. In detail, only two switches are needed while for conventional systems four switches are required. Although the number of switches is reduced by half, the proposed converter is still proficient for energy diversification from two energy sources individually or simultaneously. Another benefit of the proposed converter is its extensibility. Several converters are given by easily extending the proposed converter to different applications. They also feature with reduced power switches compare to conventional systems. Detailed analysis on the topology and control algorithm of the proposed converter are given. Real-time simulation results are provided to verify the validity of the proposed system. © 2014 IEEE.

In this paper, a transformerless PV inverter is proposed, which is formed by adding a neutral leg into conventional half bridge inverter. It consists of one neutral leg and one inverter leg. The presence of the neutral leg enables the direct connection between the ground of PV panels and the ground. Two main benefits are then obtained. First, the common mode currents are completely eliminated because the stray capacitors between the PV panels and the grid neutral line are bypassed. Another benefit is the voltage of the PV is only required to be higher than the peak value of the grid voltage, which is same as that of conventional full bridge inverter. In addition, the synchronverter technology designed for three-phase inverters is extended to a single-phase case to design the controller of the inverter leg. As a result, the proposed inverter becomes more grid-friendly. The control of the two legs are independent with each other, which means the controller design much easier. The performance of the whole system is evaluated in detail with the provided real-time simulation results.

This paper shows how control techniques, such as PID or generalized predictive control, can improve the performance of TCP/IP networks when dealing with congestion. Drop tail, or more sophisticated AQM techniques such as RED, perform worse than process control techniques. A comparison between the different methods in different working scenarios is analyzed. Two different GPC controllers are evaluated. One considers the model resulting from on-line identification and the other is the linearization of the non-linear model. © 2009 EUCA.

The demand-side energy management of microgrids comprising of buildings of heterogeneous nature (residential, commercial, industrial, etc.) and thus exhibiting heterogeneous occupancy pattern, requires the development of appropriate energy management systems (EMSs) that can integrate the maximum exploitation of the distributed energy resources like photovoltaic panels with the thermal comfort of the occupants. This paper presents a simulation-based optimization approach for the design of an EMS in grid-connected photovoltaic-equipped microgrids with heterogeneous buildings and occupancy schedules. The EMS optimizes a multi-objective criterion that takes into account both the energy cost and the thermal comfort of the aggregate microgrid. A three-building microgrid test case is used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach: comparisons with alternative rule-based and optimization-based EMSs show that the proposed EMS strategy exploits the occupancy information to automatically change the energy demand of each building, resulting in improved energy cost and thermal comfort.

This paper presents some considerations on a new educational approach aimed at complementing the traditional robotics education. The main idea and contribution is to introduce students to Second Life (a free 3D social virtual world) and to the Linden Scripting Language (the Second Life programming language with a syntax similar to C) and then to ask them to design robotic avatars replicating low and medium complexity behaviors which they have previously seen or programmed for simulated or real robots. This approach brings flexibility in working time and a definite social dimension which add to the benefits of the traditional classroom education. Results from a survey conducted with students taking a Robotics and Virtual Reality course demonstrate the validity of this approach in stimulating the students in learning.
