Quantum communication complexity studies the efficiency of information communication (that is, the minimum amount of communication required to achieve a certain task) using quantum states. One representative example is quantum fingerprinting, in which the simultaneous message passing model is considered and the minimum amount of communication could be exponentially smaller than the classical fingerprinting protocol. Experimental demonstrations based on a practical quantum fingerprinting protocol where coherent states are used to construct the fingerprints, have successfully shown the superiority of quantum fingerprinting. However, as a consequence of using coherent states, the communication time in this coherent quantum fingerprinting (CQF) protocol is increased. Moreover, the minimum amount of information communicated in these experimental demonstrations is largely limited by the dark counts of the single photon detectors. Here, we propose to enhance the performance of the existing CQF protocol through applying wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) and simultaneous detection of multiple wavelength channels. We show that the new WDM-CQF protocol can potentially reduce the communication time significantly. More importantly, with the same experimental parameters, the amount of communication is much reduced in the new scheme compared with the original CQF protocol. The more wavelength channels are used, the less communication is required by WDM-CQF protocol. We also perform a proof-of-concept experimental demonstration of the new WDM-CQF protocol with 6 wavelength channels. The experimental results further validate that the new scheme with WDM not only beats the classical protocol, but also reduces the amount of communication required by the original CQF protocol by more than half. This paper proposes a system, by which humanoid robots could imitate human movements to learn human behaviors. Considering the security problem during humanoid robot imitation process, a method of stability identification based on improved Multi-Layer Perception (MLP) is proposed. Firstly, the positions of the human joints are collected by a Kinect. Secondly, the human joints information is transformed into robot angles information by the inverse kinematics equation. Finally, the stability of the robot is identified by the deep neural network, which has the robot angles as its input. Simulations and experimental results demonstrate that compared with the Back Propagation neural network (BPnn), RBF neural network (RBFnn), Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Extreme Learning Machine (ELM), MLP neural network has the best identification accuracy. And the filters we used can overcome the problem of speed pulse, to some extent, and achieved an ideal imitation result.

In this paper, we studied the influence of the presence of a wide river on electromagnetic fields generated by lightning strikes to a tall tower located on a high mountain, using the three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method. In the computations, the lightning channel and the tower are represented by the transmission line model extended to include a tall strike object. Electromagnetic fields are computed at different points located in the river and above the ground. It is shown that the peak value and the electromagnetic field waveforms, computed at the considered observation points, are significantly affected by the presence of the river.

Electrocardiograms are generated by electrical signals, and therefore individual electrocardiogram signals can vary according to the measurement environment that is created by the subjects' behavioral characteristics. Generally, post-exercise electrocardiograms that are used as biometric identification data do not match pre-exercise electrocardiograms owing to temporarily occurring tachycardia, and this reduces user identification performance. Research is being conducted on normalization techniques that make the post-exercise electrocardiograms match the pre-exercise electrocardiograms, but there have been problems caused by the distortion of morphological features such as P waves, QRS complexes, and T waves. To address problem, this study looked at the measurements of electrocardiograms before and after exercise and performed linear interpolation normalization on the P and T waves of a post-exercise tachycardia electrocardiogram cycle to make it match the pre-exercise electrocardiogram cycle. This study also proposes a user recognition system based on this technique. To analyze the proposed system's performance, the lead-I electrocardiogram signals of 20 subjects were measured three times at 2- to 3-day intervals before and after exercise, and a database was constructed. The experiment results showed that the conventional algorithm's maximum recognition performance was 88.33%, and the proposed normalization method's performance was 91.67%. A combined method was found to be both excellent and similar to the proposed method, with a performance of 92.5%.

This paper presents the architecture and control of a LLC bidirectional isolated DC-DC converter with unity gain for low power application. The converter features zero voltage switching (ZVS) at light loads, which results in reduced switching loss and thus improves the efficiency. Further improvement of the efficiency has been achieved by operating the converter in burst mode with a constant switching frequency. A control scheme that allows bidirectional power flow is proposed. High frequency ferrite core transformer provides the galvanic isolation between primary and secondary. In addition, resonant inductors have been integrated in the transformer, which reduces the size and cost of the converter. Experimental results show power transfer efficiencies more than 90 % for loads between 1 W to 8 W. © 2018 IEEE.

This paper presents a control strategy for Cyber-Physical System defense developed in the framework of the European Project ATENA, that concerns Critical Infrastructure (CI) protection. The aim of the controller is to find the optimal security configuration, in terms of countermeasures to implement, in order to address the system vulnerabilities. The attack/defense problem is modeled as a multi-agent general sum game, where the aim of the defender is to prevent the most damage possible by finding an optimal trade-off between prevention actions and their costs. The problem is solved utilizing Reinforcement Learning and simulation results provide a proof of the proposed concept, showing how the defender of the protected CI is able to minimize the damage caused by his her opponents by finding the Nash equilibrium of the game in the zero-sum variant, and, in a more general scenario, by driving the attacker in the position where the damage she/he can cause to the infrastructure is lower than the cost it has to sustain to enforce her/his attack strategy. © 2018 IEEE.

Microgrid control becomes more and more developed with the application of this concept on a larger scale. This paper defines the modern microgrid concept and evaluates the possible architectures and control hierarchy. A small scale microgrid architecture is proposed. The components of the system are a wind turbine, a photovoltaic panel and a household. The model was implemented in Matlab/Simulink and a decision table control was proposed. The proposed decisions and actions are defined for both on and off grid operation, in order to benefit most of the local resources. The results of this study are promising in terms of microgrid off grid operation for single dwellings, considering that the house is grid supplied for a period of only 4 hours of the day. © 2018 Politechnica University of Bucharest. Thanks to the exponential growth of the Internet, Distance Education is becoming more and more strategic in many fields of daily life. Its main advantage is that students can learn through appropriate web platforms that allow them to take advantage of multimedia and interactive teaching materials, without constraints neither of time nor of space. Today, in fact, the Internet offers many platforms suitable for this purpose, such as Moodle, ATutor and others. Coursera is another example of a platform that offers different courses to thousands of enrolled students. This approach to learning is, however, posing new problems such as that of the assessment of the learning status of the learner in the case where there were thousands of students following a course, as is in Massive On-line Courses (MOOC). The Peer Assessment can therefore be a solution to this problem: evaluation takes place between peers, creating a dynamic in the community of learners that evolves autonomously. In this article, we present a first step towards this direction through a peer assessment mechanism led by the teacher who intervenes by evaluating a very small part of the students. Through a mechanism based on machine learning, and in particular on a modified form of K-NN, given the teacher’s grades, the system should converge towards an evaluation that is as similar as possible to the one that the teacher would have given. Systems are often controlled using feedback loops. Fault diagnosis schemes are usually designed assuming that there is no feedback loop. Therefore fault diagnosis methods need to accommodate for the feedback loop. One such method is active fault diagnosis based on a fault signature system. This method is derived using the YJBK parametrisation, named after Youla, Jabr, Bongiorno and Kucera. It uses the derived fault signature system to determine the detectability of possible faults in the system. Deriving the fault signature system requires knowledge about the controller. This paper demonstrates the possibility of estimating the detectability of faults in the fault signature system using a gap-metric. The gap-metric has the advantage of only requiring knowledge about the plant. By using the gap-metric it is possible to estimate the detectability of faults without using information about the controller. © 2018 IEEE.

Development of a Greek language teaching platform for primary school pupils

This study aims to develop an online Greek language learning platform via a learning management system based on the WordPress platform for primary school pupils with Russian as a mother tongue. The subject was chosen with a view to aid both the communication needs of Russian native speakers in Greece, as well as their smooth integration into society. For the purpose of the current study, we investigated how Greek language is learnt in Russia, how widespread and popular it is, whether it is supported by the Russian educational system, as well as whether Greek language distance learning could be achieved. Moreover, LMS(Learning management system) environments were investigated as well, aiming at selecting the most student/teacher-friendly one. Taking into account that the platform is addressed to children, a presentable and properly developed material was designed, thus making the learning of each module more interesting and comprehensible throughout its short duration. With"GrfKids" platform speakers of other languages have the opportunity to learn Greek in an interactive asynchronous teaching environment with an automatic assessment. Moreover,"GrfKids" can be easily and immediately expanded both to pupils‘linguistic, as well as age range."GrfKids" provides Greek language courses to children with Russian as a mother tongue with interactive modules in which the learners can adapt the learning time by themselves. It is easy to use, functional and easily adapted to the ages it is addressed to. It was developed to create a teaching system by applying different plugins to the selected CMS(Content Management system), aiming to achieve a curriculum in which the pupil is in direct interaction with the educational material. It can be used individually, or as a support tool in a real class context.
