The paper examines a new approach to controlling deterministic dynamical chaotic mode of power system with two electric generate-sources. A control law is synthesized in the class of one-parameter structurally stable mappings from catastrophe theory. Analytical calculations and a numerical experiment in MatLab showed that the proposed system excludes the generation of a deterministic chaotic mode for any changes in the uncertain system parameters. The study of the control system is carried out by the gradient-velocity method Lyapunov vector functions © 2023 IEEE.

Optical fiber displacement sensors (OFDS) offer several advantages over conventional sensors due to their compact size and immunity to electromagnetic interference. These are particularly useful for applications in confined spaces, including aeronautical turbines. The critical component of OFDS is the fiber bundle, whose response depends on the arrangement, radius, and number of fibers. We developed a straightforward yet effective method for designing OFDSs based on sensor specifications: working point, range, and sensitivity. This allows to determine the bundle geometry directly from the specified requirements. Among the explored designs, the tetrafurcated bundle stands out, composed by a transmitting fiber at the center, surrounded by three collections of receiving fibers. This paper demonstrates that tetrafurcated OFDS designs significantly enhance both the range and linearity. Additionally, they effectively reduce the dead zone of the sensors, enabling precise measurements even at very short distances. The design has been manufactured and experimentally validated. Simulation and measurements are in good agreement with an MSE of 0.26%. Our findings highlight the practicality and reliability of tetrafurcated OFDS designs, opening new possibilities for advanced displacement sensing applications. © 2024 SPIE.

Genetic instability is one of the hallmarks of cancer, however mutations can occur for different causes and induce different effects. Mutational signatures are characteristic patterns of somatic mutations in cancer genomes, reflecting the underlying mutational processes. A mutational signature can be determined by studying the kind of mutations a patient has acquired during their life: patient stratification based on mutational signatures has become more and more useful in genomic studies, given its possible clinical implications. In this work we focused on Single Base Substitution (SBS) signatures to study a cohort of 115 metastatic melanoma patients. We inferred and identified two mutational signatures characterizing the patients. Based on these signatures we divided patients into two group: the bigger group was characterized by a signature associated with exposure to ultraviolet light, while the smaller group resulted to be mostly composed of patients which did not respond to immunotherapy (anti-PD1) and that presented a low mutational count. More importantly this second group showed a significantly worse survival outcome. The use of mutational signatures is clearly a powerful tool to identify disease sub-types that have a clinical relevance, however we believe that this topic needs further investigation focused on the characterization of patient subtypes with a multi-omics based approach. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper analyzes the zero dynamics of three-phase current source inverters fed from a voltage source and connected to a local resistive load or the electrical power grid. The zero dynamics is the remaining dynamics of a system when it exactly meets the control objectives. It is important for understanding the system behaviour, and its limitations, and designing efficacious controllers. The analysis concludes that, when the power source is modelled from its Thévenin equivalent circuit, some stability problems occur in the dc link if the control scheme only tracks the output voltage. The paper includes an alternative nested-loop controller that overcomes the internal dc-current instability. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper reports on the design and development of a customized Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) solution aimed at detecting defects in a production line related to the correct mounting of integrated circuits. Contrary to most solutions avail- able on the market, the developed system relies on deep learning to be able to perform detailed real-time visual inspections of components without the need to compare the captured photos with any reference images/golden sample. The proposed solution was designed to also provide good generalization capabilities, accommodating visual changes in the environment and in the structure of the component being produced. A custom testing machine was built in order to perform real-time inferences and validate the simulation results in a real-world setting. © 2024 IEEE.

A circuit design of a high-speed CBJT operational amplifier (OpAmp) based on an 'folded' cascode is proposed, in which a differentiating transient correction circuit is introduced to increase the maximum slew rate of the output voltage (SR). The considered OpAmp is intended for use in a subclass of so-called discrete-to-analog SC filters on switched capacitors, where (in some important cases) higher SR values of the OpAmp are required. In addition, such high-speed OpAmps are in demand in drivers of high-speed analog-to-digital converters and other devices of automatics and computer engineering. computer simulation in LTSpice environment shows that the proposed CBJT OpAmp circuit designs for micron silicon technological processes provide SR increase from 45.8 V/µs to 18000 V/µs. © 2024 IEEE.

The relevance of the present research is related to the search for promising ideas for increasing the maximum slew rate of the output voltage (SRM) of new-generation operational amplifiers (OpAmps). Proposed circuit techniques that provide (with simultaneous use) an increase in SRM by more than 2 orders of magnitude. Such high-speed operational amplifiers are in demand today for application in drivers of high-speed ADCs (AD9208, AD9691, etc.), and as active elements in circuits of analog-to-discrete filters on switched capacitors. It is proposed to introduce (according to the developed rules) a nonlinear differentiating RC-circuit realized based on an additional differential stage and a differentiating capacitor of small capacitance into the classical OpAmps with one integrating correction capacitance. Such circuit "additives"practically do not change the low-signal dynamic and static parameters of the OpAmp, and at a large signal during the transient front, when the input stage enters the nonlinear mode, form a large current overcharge of the integrating correction capacitor. Consequently, the SRM of the OpAmp is significantly increased. © 2024 IEEE.

Recent advances in semiconductors industry and microelectronics have created new opportunities for integrating various technologies in energy harvesting projects. These advancements have simplified the process of capturing energy from different sources, such as thermal energy, and converting it into electrical power. Thermo-Electric Generators (TEGs) are commonly used in many applications such as wearable devices. However Thermo-Electric Generators produce very low output voltages, which is insufficient for most low-power electronic circuits to operate. Therefore, a boost converter is essential to step up the voltage output from the TEG to a usable level. In this paper, a DC-DC converter with a high performance in terms of voltage gain is implemented. The proposed quasi-Z-source (q-ZSC) DC-DC converter not only offers high voltage gain but also several significant advantages. The proposed q-ZSC is capable of both boosting and regulating the voltage output efficiently, even under variable input conditions, making it highly suitable for low-power energy harvesting systems such as Thermo-Electric Generators. The design is simulated using MATLAB Simulink software, focusing on integrated circuits, with a strong emphasis on optimizing the circuit's efficiency. This work underscores critical factors in improving energy harvesting circuits, enhancing their performance and effectiveness in low-power applications for wearable technology. © 2024 The Authors.

In this paper, a new cascade control structure is proposed for model predictive control (MPC) of permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM). Based on the d-q model of the PMSM and the field-oriented control principle, the cascade structure consists of an inner loop for predictive control of d-q currents and an outer one for predictive control of speed and load torque rejection. To independently control the two currents in the inner loop, a decoupling algorithm was used, followed by MPC controllers that by their ability to manipulate the constraints in the design phase ensure efficient control considering the physical limitations of currents and voltages. Quadratic constraints of electrical signals are approximated by box constraints to reduce computational effort. For speed control and load torque rejection, an MPC controller with a measurable disturbance input is used in the outer loop. Since the load torque is not measurable, an observer was used to estimate it. The proposed predictive control structure for the PMSM was implemented in Matlab-Simulink using MPC controllers from the MPC Toolbox. The Simulink control scheme was used for the performance testing against classical PI controllers.

Emotions in human is an effective medium to study the mindset of a person. Since, expression on the face of human is significant approach to understand the condition and communicate with him to release the pressure or stress of person. The emotions and behavior have a strong relationship and is noteworthy in non-verbal form of communication. The advancement in medical science and use of image processing tools like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), can be helpful to recognize emotion, detect stress and depression level of a person. Thus, in this research work emotion recognition system is developed using Convolution Neural Networks (CNNs) with increased dept. and width. CNNs have been shown to enhance prediction accuracy. In terms of proper emotion categorization and accurate prediction, the suggested ensemble technique is effective. In this paper Xception CNN architecture is proposed for accurate facial emotions prediction along with an ensemble model, using Max Voting ensemble technique, mainly contributes in accurate classification. In proposed technique trained CNN models were loaded and for each trained model prediction probabilities were generated. Furthermore, it is then used for Max Voting to generate final emotion prediction. The CNN models are trained and evaluated on FER-2013 dataset. © 2022 IEEE.
