This paper aims to introduce an application to Kalman Filtering Theory, which is rather unconventional. Recent experiments have shown that many natural phenomena, especially from ecology or meteorology, could be monitored and predicted more accurately when accounting their evolution over some geographical area. Thus, the signals they provide are gathered together into a collection of distributed time series. Despite the common sense, such time series are more or less correlated each other. Instead of processing each time series independently, their collection can constitute the set of measurable states provided by some open system. Modeling and predicting the system states can take benefit from the family of Kalman filtering algorithms. The article describes an adaptation of basic Kalman filter to the context of distributed signals collections and completes with an application coming from Meteorology. Copyright © 2017, The Authors. In this paper, an adaptive control approach is proposed for performance of constrained robot end-effector movements in presence of uncertainty. In real-world scenarios, complex physical phenomena occuring at the place of interaction may introduce nonlinearities in the system dynamics, which have to be taken into account for proper system control. We currently propose an Extremum Seeking (ES) Model Reference Adaptive control (MRAC) approach for state tracking of multiple-input multiple-output systems which enclose nonlinearities in their dynamics and involve parametric uncertainty by employing Adaptive Dynamic Inversion (ADI). According to ADI, system nonlinearities are assumed known and are taken into account in the design of the system control law. The proposed scheme is based on MRAC and ADI while the unknown controller parameters are adapted by ES control. The system is shown to achieve global and asymptotic reference state tracking under the proposed control law by performing Lyapunov and averaging analysis. The approach is evaluated in simulation and in an experimental robot task.

Source Routing allows a node in the path of a packet to specify partially or completely the route taken by that packet. The route is appended to packet header as a list of nodes to traverse, therefore making simple, stateless forwarding decisions. In this paper, we present a novel approach of Source Routing in SDN that uses stacked VLAN tags. Our solution was validated in Mininet using the Ryu controller and proven to have multiple advantages over other forwarding methods.

The main objective of the work is to improve the clustering efficiency and performance when we deal with very big datasets. This paper aims to improve the quality of XML data clustering by exploiting more features extracted from source schemas. In particular, it proposes clustering approach that gathers both content and structure of XML documents to determine similarity between them. The content and structure information are concluded using two different similarity methods that are then grouped via weight factor to compute the overall document similarity. The structural similarity of XML data are derived from edge summaries while content features similarity are derived from aggregate of set of similarity measures;Jaccard, Cosine measure and Jensen-Shannon divergence in one algorithm. However, we also experimented using Jaccard distance as content measure with edge summaries to prove that using an aggregation of content similarity measures can further improve the results. The experiments prove that clustering of XML documents based on structure only information produce worse solution in homogenous environment, while in heterogeneous environment clustering of XML document produce better result when the structure and the content are combined. Results have shown that performance and quality of the proposed approach is better in comparison of both XEdge and XCLSC approaches. © 2016 IEEE.

Among the various ways of self-expression and communication between people, communication by speaking prevails. Speech presents a significant challenge for some disabled people, such as the deaf, hearing impaired, wordless, and dumb persons. Therefore, these people rely on the use of sign language to interact with others. Sign language is a system of movements and visual messages that ensure the integration of these individuals into groups that communicate vocally. On the other side, it is necessary to understand the gestures and linguistic semantics of these individuals. The main objective of this study is to establish a new model that enhances the performance of the existing paradigms in use for the recognition of American Sign Language (ASL). Therefore, three enhanced deep-learning models of YOLOv5 for recognizing the alphabetic and numeric information conveyed by hand motions are presented in this paper. These models depend on using different attention approaches. The suggested models were evaluated using the MU HandImages ASL dataset. The proposed models yielded superior results compared to those achieved by the initial version of YOLOv5. The modified models have reached their maximum accuracy of 98.9%, maximum recall of 97.5%, maximum mAP 0.5 of 99.2%, and maximum mAP 0.5:0.95 of 98.9%. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

We recall several two- and three-compartment models considered *** a killing agent which is active during cell-division is the only control considered in the two-compartment model, model (A), also two three-compartment models, models (B) and (C), are analyzed, which consider a blocking agent and recruiting agent, respectively. In model (B) a blocking agent which slows down the growth of the cells during synthesis enabling in consequence synchronization of neoplastic population is added. In model (C) the recruitment of dormant cells from the quiescent phase to enable their efficient treatment by a cytotoxic drug is included. In all models the cumulative effect of the killing agent is used to model the negative effect of the treatment on healthy cells. For each model it is shown that singular controls are not optimal.

Flexible manufacturing puts high demands on industrial automation in terms of affordable and competitive solutions and is of key importance for short-lot production typically found in small and medium sized enterprises, situations where today manual labour is extensively used despite e.g. , environmental issues and harsh working conditions. Key factors in the successful introduction of new robot automation concepts are that they provide both the desired performance and quality (technical capability), but also that they enable fast deployment and extend available task repertoire. The Gantry-Tau manipulator is a new robot concept which in contrast to other high-performance parallel kinematic manipulators (PKM), has a large, open working range. Its high stiffness makes it ideal for a wide range of tasks such as grinding, deburring, and cutting. An additional aspect of such a PKM is the modularity, which in this work has been studied in terms of possibilities for assembly and mechanical reconfiguration at the end-user site, integration of such a kinematically different robot with a standard industrial controller, and new needs for methods/tools to support simple (re)configuration. A range of software tools and methods were found to be useful and necessary for efficient engineering and integration of the concept in typical SME manufacturing scenarios. For experimental evaluation, two full-scale prototype robots were designed and built, the kinematic software was developed and integrated into a couple of different robot control systems, robot CAD software was adapted to the configuration needs, and both simulations and physical experiments were carried out. Our findings make us believe that enhanced software tools should be integrated on a higher symbolic (or meta-) level to better support transformation of data and code generation, but also that the Gantry-Tau type of robot (with adequate software support) will bring a new dimension of flexibility into SME manufacturing.

In the control Message Aggregation (CMA) problem, control packets are generated over time at the nodes of a tree T and need to be transmitted to the root of T. To optimize the overall cost, these transmissions can be delayed and different packets can be aggregated, that is a single transmission can include all packets from a subtree rooted at the root of T. The cost of this transmission is then equal to the total edge length of this subtree, independently of the number of packets that are sent. A sequence of transmissions that transmits all packets is called a schedule. The objective is to compute a schedule with minimum cost, where the cost of a schedule is the sum of all the transmission costs and delay costs of all packets. The problem is known to be -hard, even for trees of dept. 2. In the online scenario, it is an open problem whether a constant-competitive algorithm exists. We address the special case of the problem when T is a chain network. For the online case, we present a 5-competitive algorithm and give a lower bound of 2 + φ ≈ 3.618, improving the previous bounds of 8 and 2, respectively. Furthermore, for the offline version, we give a polynomial-time algorithm that computes the optimum solution. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Based on Bayes theory of hypothesis testing, a new DWTdomain decoder structure for image watermarking has been proposed in this work. The statistical distribution of wavelet coefficients is deliberately described with the Laplacian model so that the decoding algorithm could couple effectiveness and simplicity. Under the Neyman-Pearson criterion, the decision rule is optimized by minimizing the probability of missing the watermark for a given false detection rate. Compared with other domain decoders, the proposed DWT-domain decoder has more flexibility in constructing new watermarking algorithms by using visual models that have varying spatial support. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2003.

The application of Semantic Web technologies in the life sciences for data integration is still nascent. We have recently built Bio-Gateway, an RDF store that integrates all the candidate OBO Foundry ontologies with other resources such as SWISS-PROT. In the course of developing BioGateway, we faced challenges that are common to other projects that involve large datasets in diverse formats. We present a detailed analysis of the obstacles that had to be solved in creating Bio-Gateway. In doing so, we demonstrate the potential of a comprehensive application of Semantic Web technologies to global biomedical data. The time is ripe for launching a community effort aiming at a wider acceptance and application of Semantic Web technologies in the life sciences domain. We make a public call for the creation of a forum that strives to implement a truly semantic life science foundation of a type of Systems Biology that we named Semantic Systems Biology.
