Bond graphs are a natural method for representing power flows in physical systems and they represent the most basic graphical paradigm that is still fully object-oriented. This paper describes a new version of BondLib, the Modelica bond graph library. The library was created for Modelica with graphical Dymola support, and its object-oriented design allows the wrapping of bond graph models offering a user-friendly environment for modeling physical system in multiple energy domains. The new improvements try to reduce the deployment and training cost for end-users by making the error diagnostics easier.

Common practice in industrial design of discrete controllers as well as in most synthesis procedures advocated for discrete control in academia is to create the control logic and to transfer it into a PLC language before process start-up. Changes in the operational constraints of the controlled process (e.g. of available resources, nominal set-points, occurrences of failures) have to be accounted for by dedicated alternative routines, i.e. dependability is restricted to variations which are envisaged during design. In contrast, the approach proposed in this paper operates online on a model of the uncontrolled process to compute a control strategy that is adapted to the current set of constraints. By using algebraic computations largely resembling techniques for discrete-time continuous-valued controllers, perceived process variations (including newly defined control-goals) are first assessed with respect to the existence of a feasible successful control strategy, before such a dependable and optimal strategy is computed.

Link duration determines the performance of many vehicular applications, especially for urban vehicular wireless communication networks. However, the theoretical analysis on link properties is always complicated, since parameters that should be considered include the inter-vehicle distance, the vehicle speed, the turning ratios in the intersection, the influence of traffic lights in the intersections, and the signal decay caused by the roadside buildings etc. To reduce the analytical complexity, most of the previous works proposed preliminary analysis on link duration property by considering some parameters. Even though some works considered all parameters, their assumptions on the parameters setting were somewhat ideal. For example, the events of meeting traffic lights for two consecutive vehicles in a communication route path were always assumed independent with each other, which is different from the actual situations. This paper proposes a discrete Markov process-based analytical model on link duration by considering a relatively complete set of parameters, including the influence of the inter-vehicle distance, vehicle speed, turning ratios in the intersection, traffic lights in the intersection, and the non-line-of-sight transmission for the intersection. Especially, the theoretical study on the link duration is based on a more realistic traffic lights scenario description model. Finally, simulations are carried to verify the accuracy of our analytical work.

This paper proposes an approach to algorithmically synthesize control strategies for discrete-time nonlinear uncertain systems based on reachable set computations using the ellipsoidal calculus. For given ellipsoidal initial sets and bounded ellipsoidal disturbances, the proposed algorithm iterates over conservatively approximating and LMI-constrained optimization problems to compute stabilizing controllers. The method uses first-order Taylor approximation of the nonlinear dynamics and a conservative approximation of the Lagrange remainder. An example for illustration is included.

Most approaches concerning distributed control for physically interconnected systems assume a flat controller structure, i.e. the subsystems exchange state information directly and in each timestep. In this paper, ideas from distributed control, network topology optimization and optimal control are combined in order to construct a distributed two-layer state feedback control structure. A decomposition algorithm is proposed which groups the subsystems into distinct clusters. Within each cluster, information is exchanged between the subsystems in every timestep. On the upper layer of the hierarchy, informaton is exchanged between the clusters with a lower frequency. The underlying communication topology is optimized to obtain a compromise between control performance and communication cost. This leads to reduced communication between the subsystems compared to existing hierarchical approaches.
