A Robust Observer with Gyroscopic Bias Correction for Rotational Dynamics

We propose an observer for rotational dynamics subject to directional and gyroscopic measurements, which simultaneously estimates the gyroscopic biases and attitude rates. We show uniform almost global asymptotic and local exponential stability of the resulting error dynamics, implying robustness against bounded disturbances. This robustness is quantified with respect to a popular nonlinear complementary filter in quantitative simulation studies, and we explore how the measurement noise propagates to the asymptotic errors as a function of tuning.

Opinion dynamics models are important in understanding and predicting opinion formation processes within social groups. Although the weighted-averaging opinion-update mechanism is widely adopted as the micro-foundation of opinion dynamics, it bears a non-negligibly unrealistic implication: opinion attractiveness increases with opinion distance. Recently, the weighted-median mechanism has been proposed as a new microscopic mechanism of opinion exchange. Numerous advancements have been achieved regarding this new micro-foundation, from theoretical analysis to empirical validation, in a discretetime asynchronous setup. However, the original discrete-time weighted-median model does not allow for "compromise behavior" in opinion exchanges, i.e., no intermediate opinions are created between disagreeing agents. To resolve this problem, this paper propose a novel continuous-time weighted-median opinion dynamics model, in which agents' opinions move towards the weighted-medians of their out-neighbors' opinions. It turns out that the proof methods for the original discrete-time asynchronous model are no longer applicable to the analysis of the continuous-time model. In this paper, we first establish the existence and uniqueness of the solution to the continuoustime weighted-median opinion dynamics by showing that the weighted-median mapping is contractive on any graph. We also characterize the set of all the equilibria. Purpose. The aim of this work is to compare the effectiveness of various methods for correcting cell failures in cascade high voltage frequency converters. These methods provide the smallest voltage drop on the motor, the least loads and oscillation of electromagnetic torque in an accident modes, and evaluate the effectiveness of pulse width modulation (PWM) methods with the injection of third harmonic and space-vector PWM in normal and emergency modes. Methodology. We use mathematical and geometrical interpretation of all analysed methods - Sinusoidal PWM (SPWM), Balanced sinusoidal PWM (BSPWM), Balanced PWM with injected 3rd harmonic (THPWM) and Balanced Space Vector PWM (SVPWM). Results. The method of balancing the phase-to-phase voltages by to such a shift of the zero point and rotation of the phase vectors, in which the amplitude of the phase-to-phase voltage decreases to the minimum possible value. Injection of the 3rd harmonic allows you to further increase the utilisation factor of power supplies in terms of voltage. But the violation of the symmetry of the phase voltages leads to the need to reduce the voltage amplitude to exclude saturation of the power supplies, which reduces this coefficient compared to the theoretically possible 15.6%. A distinctive feature of the method of balanced Space Vector PWM is that the amplitude of the 1st harmonic is always greater than the radius of the circle by 15.6%. Comparison of methods of space vector PWM (SVPWM), balancing of phase-to-phase voltage with the injection of the 3rd harmonic (THPWM) with sinusoidal PWM shows that SVPWM is the best method. Despite the more complex mathematical software for the implementation of this method, it provides the best performance in all considered emergency modes of 3...6 cascade converters. The increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) has left power network providers to deal with new challenges in terms of grid stability and electricity market design. On the latter direction, a demanding problem is represented by the development of probabilistic algorithms capable of computing optimal time-varying price profiles for EVs charging stations to induce a desired aggregative behavior. Here, the inclusion of demand elasticity represents a key feature to provide usable schemes for real-world cases. In this paper, we propose an "estimate-then-optimize" framework for optimal dynamic pricing computation in the presence of price-sensitive customers. It consists of an estimation step based on nonparametric kernel methods to infer about the demand elasticity, followed by an optimization step to maximize the expected daily profit. We describe the charging process via a probabilistic framework and we show the benefits of the proposed formulation via extensive numerical experiments.

The paper is devoted to study of the influence of rolling modes on the performance of powerful interconnected electric drives of a hot rolling mill under the action of an electromagnetic coupling circuit between the electric drives of the roughing and finishing groups. The action of the electromagnetic coupling circuit manifests itself in the form of the influence of impact loads of synchronous electric drives on the angular velocity of direct current electric drives of the finishing group of the mill. The parameters of the electromagnetic coupling circuit are determined by the power supply scheme and equipment parameters. Values of impact loads applied to a synchronous motor depend on the rolling process parameters, in particular, the chemical composition of the rolled steel and the temperature of the ingot. The paper presents the results of calculating the rolling power for various rolling mode parameters. Using mathematical modeling in Simulink, numerical estimates of the influence of rolling modes on the magnitude of the voltage drop in the power supply unit and the drop in the angular velocity of the electric drive of the finishing group were obtained on the example of a wide-strip hot rolling mill 1700 of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC. © 2023 IEEE.

Modeling trajectories in cigarette smoking prevalence, initiation and quitting for populations and subgroups of populations is important for policy planning and evaluation. This paper proposes an agent-based model (ABM) design for simulating the smoking behaviors of a population using the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation - Behavior (COM-B) model. Capability, Opportunity and Motivation are modeled as latent composite attributes which are composed of observable factors associated with smoking behaviors. Three forms of the COM-B model are proposed to explain the transitions between smoking behaviors: initiating regular smoking uptake, making a quit attempt and quitting successfully. The ABM design follows object-oriented principles and extends an existing generic software architecture for mechanism-based modeling. The potential of the model to assess the impact of smoking policies is illustrated and discussed.

Feedback Optimizing MPC for Load Frequency control and Economic Dispatch

With increasing renewable generation, demand response, and deregulation, power networks are becoming more uncertain, time-varying, and strongly coupled. As a result, the conventional approach of performing separate economic dispatch (ED) and load-frequency control (LFC) operations may no longer guarantee smooth and cost-efficient regulation of frequency across interconnected power networks. To address this, we present a tracking model predictive control (MPC) algorithm which simultaneously achieves economic dispatch and secondary frequency control in a multi-area power network. A unique feature of the proposed algorithm is that it exploits the implicit feedback in MPC to regulate the interconnected power system towards steady-state equilibria that solve a multi-area economic dispatch problem, without explicitly computing the latter as a reference to be followed or estimating the unknown disturbances. This feedback-based optimization approach endows the algorithm with inherent robustness to uncertainty (such as unknown step changes in the demand). Simulation results for a two-area power network show improved steady-state economic performance compared to standard MPC-based frequency control schemes, and better dynamic performance compared to other feedback-based optimization schemes.

This paper analyzes the zero dynamics of three-phase current source inverters fed from a voltage source and connected to a local resistive load or the electrical power grid. The zero dynamics is the remaining dynamics of a system when it exactly meets the control objectives. It is important for understanding the system behaviour, and its limitations, and designing efficacious controllers. The analysis concludes that, when the power source is modelled from its Thévenin equivalent circuit, some stability problems occur in the dc link if the control scheme only tracks the output voltage. The paper includes an alternative nested-loop controller that overcomes the internal dc-current instability.

A circuit design of a high-speed CBJT operational amplifier (OpAmp) based on an “folded” cascode is proposed, in which a differentiating transient correction circuit is introduced to increase the maximum slew rate of the output voltage (SR). The considered OpAmp is intended for use in a subclass of so-called discrete-to-analog SC filters on switched capacitors, where (in some important cases) higher SR values of the OpAmp are required. In addition, such high-speed OpAmps are in demand in drivers of high-speed analog-to-digital converters and other devices of automatics and computer engineering. Computer simulation in LTSpice environment shows that the proposed CBJT OpAmp circuit designs for micron silicon technological processes provide SR increase from 45.8 V/μs to 18000 V/μs.
