Ocean wave energy has de potential to satisfy 15% of EU energy demand, cutting 136 MT/MWh off the CO2 emissions by 2050, as stated by the EU Energy Road Map. Analogously, the Spanish Renewable Energies Plan specifically highlighted the Spanish marine energy potential with special emphasis in wave energy. In this context, Oscillating Water Column (OWC) converters are maybe nowadays the most promising wave energy converters, with the potential capability of sea energy harnessing from diverse on-shore and floating structures. This paper presents an analytic modeling of the wave capture chamber for a fixed on-shore OWC wave power plant. The model is particularized and parameterized for the case of the Mutriku MOWC wave power plant, located in the Spanish Basque Country coast, and then validated using both measured real wave entry data and experimental generated output power from the plant

A two-channel Sallen-Key low-pass filter on three non-inverting amplifiers is studied, which has the property of unrelated digital set of the upper cut-off frequency at constant index of the transmission coefficient in the bandwidth range. The restructuring of the upper cutoff frequency and the attenuation of the pole is carried out by modify the resistors' resistance of one in the upper channel of the low-pass filter. It is shown that a non-inverting amplifier in the lower channel of the low-pass filter can have a small value of the systematic zero bias voltage component, what is important for the operation of the low-pass filter at the input of analog-to-digital converters. It has been established that due to the construction of a low-pass filter according to a two-channel architecture, the requirement for the magnitude of the output static voltage of the upper channel is removed. The base equations of the new low-pass filter scheme are given and the summary modeling in the Micro-Cap was pictured. © 2022 IEEE.

Retinal blood vessel segmentation is an essential component in the diagnosis and monitoring of various ophthalmological conditions, such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma or macular degeneration, providing valuable information about the state of blood vessels and ocular blood circulation. Traditional methods for segmenting blood vessels from retinal images present certain limitations in terms of accuracy and robustness, especially under variable lighting conditions, the presence of artifacts or low-quality images. However, current techniques based on convolutional neural networks have demonstrated the ability to achieve precise and robust segmentations in a variety of conditions, outperforming traditional methods. Nevertheless, neural networks face challenges regarding the limited availability of retinal image datasets necessary for training and evaluating these solutions. In this paper we describe a solution for retinal blood vessel segmentation using the U-Net architecture. This neural network achieves impressive results even with very small datasets, demonstrating the efficiency and robustness of the U-Net architecture for retinal blood vessel segmentation.

Worldwide, autism affects 1 in 100 children, with diagnoses steadily rising since the 2000s. Romania lacks official statistics on autism prevalence, but global estimates suggest similarity. Children with autism struggle with social interactions and verbal communication, prompting interest in social robots for therapy and education. Tailored robot-assisted sessions offer potential for cognitive development, vocabulary enhancement, social interaction, and behavioral stimulation like concentration and attention. The NAO robot's user-friendly design, technical capabilities, and integrated features make it well-suited for these purposes. This paper presents activities that exemplify the concept of “learning through play,” allowing children to engage in exploration, experimentation, and effective learning in an enjoyable manner.

The purpose of the work is to investigate the possibilities of soft-start devices with gate turn-off thyristors in electric drives of bow thrusters with adjustable propeller pitch to increase reliability, reduce mechanical shocks and currents, and improve electromagnetic compatibility with the ship's electrical power plant. The characteristic features of these drives are operation on fan load and the need for a smooth start in a sufficiently short time to reduce impact torque in the mechanism. As a result of the analysis, a solution with a shunt capacitor is proposed, which provides high accuracy of regulation of the 1st harmonic of the voltage on the motor according to the given law. The minimum value of the capacitor capacity was found, which for the ABB/AMD710L8T motor with a capacity of 2.7 MW is 150-250 μF at switching frequencies from 500 to 1000 Hz. For the first time, the dependences of the GTO switching frequency on the capacitor capacity and the coefficient of harmonic distortion of the current in the stator phase of the selected motor were found. Frequencies are obtained that correspond to the actual physical characteristics of the GTO (500-1000 Hz). At such switching frequencies, the characteristics of the soft start device practically do not differ from the ideal regulator of the phase voltage of an asynchronous motor. This makes it possible to synthesize closed systems with stabilization of the main coordinates of soft starter electric drive, two-circuit systems with the formation of a given tachogram with torque limitation. All this makes it feasible to implement soft start devices based on gate turn-off thyristors. © 2023 IEEE.

The article deals with methods of usability testing of industrial SCADA/HMI interfaces such as graphical operator panels or control room visualization screens. Analysis of the designed HMI screens and quantitative and qualitative testing methods are used. Usability is estimated by measuring the reaction times of the defined test tasks and by the Eye Tracking methods. The proposed method for testing and evaluating the industrial HMI is presented as a case study. The method allows for to improvement the quality of industrial HMI. Especially its usability, reliability, and efficiency.

Hearing loss impacts over 5% of the world's population, a percent rising due to aging populations, noise exposure, and chronic health conditions. To address this, we developed a non-invasive hearing device designed for individuals with hearing challenges that limit the use of hearing aids. The proposed device integrates a set of Bluetooth headphones with a smartphone, that process the ambient sound in real time through a software application and delivers to the hear impaired patient via bone conduction, bypassing traditional auditory pathways. Laboratory tests confirmed that the proposed device effectively replicates auditory perception. The developed device offers an accessible and user-friendly alternative to patients who cannot use traditional hearing aids.

mobile robots play an enormous role in different fields of daily life applications including military, safety, and logistic multi-tasking capabilities. A new approach is introduced to the market which is the 3 Mecanum wheeled mobile robot (3-MWMR) is being tested and validated. Grid-forming inverters is getting special attention of industries and academia due to their important role in the realization of microgrids. A crucial feature of them is to have an accurate voltage control. This paper proposes a digital phase lead-and-lag voltage control based on frequency response approach for single-phase half-bridge DC-AC converters. Initially, the system is modeled through the small-signal technique. Then, the controller is designed based on the frequency response approach. The discretization through Tustin and Backward methods are presented and compared. Moreover, designing the controller in discrete-time domain by conventional methods using the fictitious w-domain is also presented. The system is tested in a controller Hardware-in-Loop setup, where the power topology runs in the HIL402 device and the digital voltage controller runs in the TMS320FF28335 digital signal controllers. Scenarios like initialization, nonlinear load and oscillation at the DC voltage are performed. Results show the efficacy of the methodology proposed in this paper.

Cardiac conditions are one of the leading causes of death worldwide. To address this, we designed a model that can detect cardiac conditions from a patient's electrocardiogram (ECG). This will convert the 1D ECG signal into a 2D scalogram using wavelet transforms with Morlet wavelets. With the help of a network based on the AlexNet convolutional neural network, it distinguishes between a normal ECG signal and one indicative of arrhythmia or congestive heart failure. The resulting model performs well, achieving a classification accuracy of 92.20% and providing a robust approach for detecting cardiac conditions.
