This paper analyzes the zero dynamics of three-phase current source inverters fed from a voltage source and connected to a local resistive load or the electrical power grid. The zero dynamics is the remaining dynamics of a system when it exactly meets the control objectives. It is important for understanding the system behaviour, and its limitations, and designing efficacious controllers. The analysis concludes that, when the power source is modelled from its Thévenin equivalent circuit, some stability problems occur in the dc link if the control scheme only tracks the output voltage. The paper includes an alternative nested-loop controller that overcomes the internal dc-current inst.bility. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents the design of a Proportional-Integral Passivity-based controller (PI-PBC) for a current source inverter feeding a resistive load. Thanks to the definition of a new passive output, the closed-loop system is shown to be globally asymptotically stable. This result solves the internal stability problem reported for these power converters. To robustify the control algorithm, the paper also includes the design of a parameter estimation scheme for the parasitic resistances and the load conductance. Numerical simulations are carried out to validate the control algorithm. The simulation stage compares the behaviour using the averaged model of the power converter and a more realistic switching model, including the three-phase implementation.

State-of-the-art techniques for modeling, analysis and control of three-phase electrical systems belong to the real-valued multi-input/multi-output (MIMO) domain, or to the complex-valued nonlinear single-input/single-output (SISO) domain. In order to complement both domains while simplifying complexity and offering new analysis and design perspectives, this paper introduces the application of geometric algebra (GA) principles to the modeling, analysis and control of three-phase electrical systems. The key contribution for the modeling part is the identification of the transformation that allows transferring real-valued linear MIMO systems into GA-valued linear SISO representations (with independence of having a balanced or unbalanced system). Closed-loop stability analysis in the new space is addressed by using intrinsic properties of GA. In addition, a recipe for designing stabilizing and decoupling GA-valued controllers is provided. This paper presents the design of a complex-valued sliding mode controller for a three-phase current source inverter feeding a resistive load, assuming that an ideal current source models the DC side. Numerical simulations are carried out to validate the control algorithm. The simulation stage compares the ideal sliding mode behaviour and the performance when a discrete time and the three-phase implementation are considered. Finally, the numerical validation includes the performance in front of nonlinear resistors.

This paper presents a design methodology for the output voltage control loop of a dual active bridge (DAB). It is based on fixed-order H ∞ non-smooth synthesis combined with passivity restrictions over closed-loop impedance transfer function, known to have a critical impact on system voltage stability. The proposal inherits the advantages of modern techniques, making use of simple frequential weighting-based design and plant dynamical complexity black-boxing, while keeping controller complexity low.

Ocean wave energy has de potential to satisfy 15% of EU energy demand, cutting 136 MT/MWh off the CO2 emissions by 2050, as stated by the EU Energy Road Map. Analogously, the Spanish Renewable Energies Plan specifically highlighted the Spanish marine energy potential with special emphasis in wave energy. In this context, Oscillating Water Column (OWC) converters are maybe nowadays the most promising wave energy converters, with the potential capability of sea energy harnessing from diverse on-shore and floating structures. This paper presents an analytic modeling of the wave capture chamber for a fixed on-shore OWC wave power plant. The model is particularized and parameterized for the case of the Mutriku MOWC wave power plant, located in the Spanish Basque Country coast, and then validated using both measured real wave entry data and experimental generated output power from the plant

Heat pumps can play a crucial role in the European energy strategy 2050, which aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. When coupled with thermal energy storage and integrated with advanced control strategies, heat pump operation can be optimized to reduce carbon footprint and respond to the needs of system operators. However, to scale in a multitude of buildings, the transferability of the modeling into heterogeneous systems is crucial. In this paper, two different interpretable linear models, a hybrid (grey-box) and a fully data-driven (black-box) model are investigated. Specifically, two regression-based identification methods (SINDYc and DMDc) are used for dynamic models and the LASSO regression is used for static models. The transferability of the approach is evaluated using two real-world facilities with heterogeneous sizing and configuration. The results show a similar simulation performance for both cases with a maximum normalized RMSE of 0.41 and 0.60, respectively. This confirms the transferability of the approach that is necessary for large-scale implementation. © 2023 inst.tute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

This paper deals with the design of an Android mobile application and visualization of the measured values of particulate matter and meteorological factors from the measurement stations. The application can in principle be effectively used in any field of data visualization. The architecture of the mobile application, the security, the use of AWS services to access the data in the InfluxDB databases, as well as the user interface and graphical visualizations of the measured data are described and illustrated. The application is user tested and the paper documents their first experiences using the mobile application. © 2023 IEEE.

The strategic vision outlined in the EU Energy Road Map suggests that, by the year 2050, the use of ocean wave energy could fulfill up to 15% of the European Union's energy demands, while allowing a substantial reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, estimated at 136 million metric tons per megawatt-hour. The Spanish Renewable Energies Plan echoes this vision, placing a particular emphasis on the role of wave energy within Spain's energy portfolio. In this milieu, Oscillating Water Column (OWC) converters are emerging as a leading technology for the conversion of wave energy, able to operate from both terrestrial and marine platforms. This study introduces a detailed analytical model for the wave capture chamber of a static OWC wave energy generator, which has been specifically developed and parameterized for the Mutriku Marine Offshore Wave Power Plant (Mutriku's MOWC), located on the coastline of the Basque Country in Spain. The validation of the proposed model is conducted through the utilization of in-situ measured wave input data, alongside the experimental power output data procured from the operational plant. This dual-faceted validation approach ensures the robustness and applicability of the model in real-world scenarios.
