In all mechanical devices, motors are subject to failures, which can sometimes lead to the shutting down of an entire industrial process. That is the reason why predictive maintenance and prognosis are necessary. Motor current signature analysis is a condition monitoring technique that is now widely used to diagnose problems such as broken rotor bars, abnormal levels of airgap eccentricity, shorted turns in low voltage stator windings and some mechanical problems. This paper presents the effect of the broken bar time evolution since the created incipient fault on the various characteristics of the induction machine such as torque, speed and currents. The methods used for analysis are based on: the Lissajous representation of Park vector current components spectral analysis of stator current and the modulus of Park vector current.

Recycling of paper is typically performed in a chain of processes. An important process is the peroxide bleaching implementing the means to achieve a high brightness quality. As this process step requires consumption of various chemicals, it is quite cost intensive. This paper presents means to optimize the bleaching stage to achieve an (adaptable) trade-off between cost and brightness: First, the time-varying deadtime of the bleaching stage is estimated using a Kalman filter. Second, the bleaching stage is modelled by Gaussian processes aiming to be used for optimization of the bleaching stage by application of a model predictive controller.

To resolve the influence of uncertainty and nonlinearity on the high-precision turntable servo system, an inverse control method based on diagonal recurrent neural network (DRNN) is presented. The inverse controller is composed of two DRNNs, the DRNNI is used to identify the system inverse model on line, the copy of the DRNNI is used as the controller (DRNNC). The proposed controller combines the advantages of neural network and inverse system control, and can compensate the influence of uncertainty and nonlinearity. The simulation result on the servo system indicates that the control method above improves effectively dynamic tracking performance of the servo system and has good robustness. The calculation time of the controller is reduced, thus, the requirement of real-time control is better satisfied.

Some new stability conditions are developed for the systems based on Lyapunov-Razumikhin theorem. Then a design method for the general state feedback controllers is proposed for the systems with multiple delays by the LMI optimization based approach. The developments and control applications of SOSTOOLS, a free third-party MATLAB toolbox for formulating and solving sum of squares programs was discussed. The technique was based on the sum of squares decomposition for multivariate polynomials which can be effectively computed using semidefinite programming. The nonlinear stability analysis, parametric robustness analysis, safety verification, and nonlinear controller synthesis was also considered in the control applications. A sparsity structure was used while considering infinitely constrained linear matrix inequalities (LMI).

This paper proposes a novel algorithm to decompose fibre image and extract its edge characteristics. Because the characteristics of the paper fibre such as length and width play an important role in papermaking industry, so how to measure its related characteristics is important to improve the paper quality and production. An online fibre analyzer is designed based on the computer vision theory, and the distribution structure of the online fibers on image presents the multi-directional properties, so the multi-direction and multi-scale algorithm is proposed, and the directional wavelet transform is applied to the analysis of fibre image. Our analysis shows that directional wavelet transform can better reflect the edge information of images, because direction and texture information of fibre image can be better expressed. The experiment proves that the directional characterizations of fibre image can be extracted effectively.

This study is an effort to give a practical solution in the problem of optimizing the structure of the Hierarchical Mixture of Experts model, which is a natural extension of the Associative Gaussian Mixture of Experts system. We present two novel methods for optimizing such structures using Genetic Algorithms. Special concern is taken for reducing the computational time so as to efficiently allow the structure to "grow" while it evolves with the Genetic Algorithm. The main contribution of the paper lies on the efficient, topologically oriented, representations of such architectures so as to be optimized through involving genetic algorithms.

The fast prototype is most basically used to design system project and test hardware quickly and easily. It can avoid many weakness of the literal criterion and improve the item's inheritable character and continuity because it adopts the frame diagram construction which is easily understood to describe the whole system. In particular, it is introduced primarily the realization of the collection and process of digital signal based on software Matlab and digital signal processor C6000. In addition, automatic code generator is applied to combine software Matlab with C6000 and it realizes the connection between high-level arithmetic and applied hardware of digital signal process which provides a favorable means to prophase development and arithmetic validity of the item.
