In the field, unsupervised learning-based fault diagnosis is necessary due to the lack of fault data. However, conventional auto-encoder models face challenges in fault classification. To address this issue, this study proposes an unsupervised learning-based auto-encoder model enhanced with an ensemble approach. The proposed model performs fault classification using gear, bearing, and eccentricity fault data, and employs the Layer-wise Relevance Propagation (LRP) technique to improve fault classification. Through the LRP technique, the key frequency bands relevant to each fault are identified and incorporated into the learning process, allowing for frequency band-based training. As a result, the proposed auto-encoder model improves classification performance and effectively distinguishes between different types of faults. © The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.

A hysteresis motor is a motor characterized by an increase in the efficiency of the output to input ratio during an over-excitation in which a higher voltage is applied at startup than when the rated voltage is applied, and the voltage is reduced over a period of time after entering synchronous speed. However, due to the specificity of the rotor material, finite element analysis of hysteresis motors is difficult, so the design was conducted by analyzing only the rated voltage application condition through an equivalent circuit. As a result, the improved efficiency and torque that can be achieved by over-excitation were not verified, which was confirmed by experiments after the design was completed. However, recently, finite element analysis simulation that can express the hysteresis loop behavior has become possible, so finite element analysis of hysteresis motors has become possible, and the improved efficiency and torque that can be obtained through over-excitation can be confirmed. Therefore, this paper compares the output and efficiency of hysteresis motors under over-excitation and rated voltage application, and confirms the necessity and feasibility of designing hysteresis motors considering over-excitation. Current optimization methods for microgrid scheduling face issues such as insufficient precision in energy distribution, high operational costs, and inefficiency. In response to these challenges, an optimization scheduling method for multi-energy microgrids based on the QUBO (Quadratic Unconstrained Binary Optimization) quantum computing model is proposed in this paper, alongside a discretization approach based on a grid partitioning strategy. To validate the feasibility of addressing microgrid optimization scheduling problems in a quantum computing environment, a QUBO model is constructed and simulation studies are conducted in the qbsolv environment provided by D-Wave. The results indicate that operational costs are significantly reduced with an increase in the number of grids, particularly a reduction of 4.52% when the number of grids increases from five to ten. This method not only effectively enhances the precision of electricity supply and energy utilization efficiency but also reduces unnecessary electrical waste and economic costs. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. Based on the set coverage theory and the multi-objective site selection planning theory, a multi-objective site selection planning model for rescue trains of a railway in mountainous area of China is established. The results show that when four rescue trains are planned to be deployed, two schemes can be obtained, and the average rescue response time of the two schemes is not much different. When five rescue trains are planned to be deployed, five schemes are obtained, of which the average rescue response time of four schemes is very close, and they can be considered as reasonable schemes. When six or more rescue trains are planned to be deployed, the deployment density of rescue trains is too high, resulting in redundancy of rescue resources. Compared with the single objective site selection planning model, the scheme obtained by the multi-objective site selection planning model of the railway in mountainous area of China rescue train can greatly reduce the average rescue response time and improve the rescue efficiency. © ASCE.

Securing Mobile Robotic Networks Against Replacement Attack

The security of mobile robotic networks (MRNs) has been an active research topic in recent years. This paper aims to secure the ubiquitous formation control of MRNs against the replacement attack, where an external robot can replace a formation robot by compromising the communication and physically interfering with the victim simultaneously. To counter this advanced attack, the novel idea of this work is to leverage the physical proximity of the formation shape and the interaction topology among robots for defense design. First, from the physical proximity perspective, we propose the convex neighbor polygon (CNP) to capture the geometric characteristic of the formation robots, and design a CNP-based security mechanism for the robots during the replacement attack. Then, from the interaction perspective, we introduce the indirect controllability to characterize the possibility that the attacker leverages the interaction between robots to deactivate the CNP mechanism, and establish the conditions regarding the topology structure and the attack input to counter the replacement. Finally, based on the obtained conditions, we demonstrate how to design the initiatory topology among the formation robots to enhance the defense performance. Comparative simulations verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

A Passive Mechanical Add-on for Treadmill Exercise (P-MATE) in Stroke Rehabilitation

Robotic rehabilitation can deliver high-dose gait therapy and improve motor function after a stroke. However, for many devices, high costs and lengthy setup times limit clinical adoption. Thus, we designed, built, and evaluated the Passive Mechanical Add-on for Treadmill Exercise (P-MATE), a low-cost passive end-effector add-on for treadmills that couples the movement of the paretic and non-paretic legs via a reciprocating system of elastic cables and pulleys. Two human-device mechanical interfaces were designed to attach the elastic cables to the user. The P-MATE and two interface prototypes were tested with a physical therapist and eight unimpaired participants. Biomechanical data, including kinematics and interaction forces, were collected alongside standardized questionnaires to assess usability and user experience. Both interfaces were quick and easy to attach, though user experience differed, highlighting the need for personalization. We also identified areas for future improvement, including pretension adjustments, tendon derailing prevention, and understanding long-term impacts on user gait. Our preliminary findings underline the potential of the P-MATE to provide effective, accessible, and sustainable stroke gait rehabilitation. © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.

A discrete-analog filter of the second order with three frequency-setting capacitors has been developed, where the electronic keys are controlled by pulse sequences that do not intersect in time. It has been shown that in the proposed filter the pole frequency can be changed by changing the capacitance of the capacitor C1. In this case, the pole attenuation depends on the resistance of the resistor R5, the transmission coefficients are changed by resistors R1 or R2, and when changing one of the parameters, all other filter parameters remain unchanged. The performance of this filter is confirmed by the results of computer modeling in the Micro-Cap environment.

Modeling trajectories in cigarette smoking prevalence, initiation and quitting for populations and subgroups of populations is important for policy planning and evaluation. This paper proposes an agent-based model (ABM) design for simulating the smoking behaviors of a population using the Capability, Opportunity, Motivation - Behavior (COM-B) model. Capability, Opportunity and Motivation are modeled as latent composite attributes which are composed of observable factors associated with smoking behaviors. Three forms of the COM-B model are proposed to explain the transitions between smoking behaviors: initiating regular smoking uptake, making a quit attempt and quitting successfully. The ABM design follows object-oriented principles and extends an existing generic software architecture for mechanism-based modeling. The potential of the model to assess the impact of smoking policies is illustrated and discussed.

To improve the robustness of high-precision servo systems, quantitative feedback theory （QFT） which aims to achieve a desired robust design over a specified region of plant uncertainty is proposed. The robust design problem can be solved using QFT but it fails to guarantee a high precision tracking. This problem is solved by a robust digital QFT control scheme based on zero phase error （ZPE） feed forward compensation. This scheme consists of two parts： a QFT controller in the closed-loop system and a ZPE feed-forward compensator. Digital QFT controller is designed to overcome the uncertainties in the system. Digital ZPE feed forward controller is used to improve the tracking precision. Simulation and real-time examples for flight simulator servo system indicate that this control scheme can guarantee both high robust performance and high position tracking precision.

A set of key performance indicators (KPIs) for manufacturing operation management is introduced in the ISO 22400 standard. However, KPIs are only defined at a high abstraction level and this hampers the standard's practical adoption. In this paper, a framework is introduced in order to solve this weakness. Starting from the analysis of the relevant measurements used in the KPIs’ formulas, a classification model is introduced defining three possible application scopes - work orders, work units and production orders - to analyze each basic element of the standard. As a result, the KPIs defined in the ISO 22400 standard are more precisely specified and, as a consequence, also suitable to be straightforwardly implemented in performance measurement systems. © 2018
