On the Absolute Stability of Nonlinear Sampled-Data systems

A general form of area inequality is used to develop a frequency domain criterion for absolute stability of single-nonlinear sampled-data (SN'SD) systems. By reductions of the general form to specific area inequalities, it is suggested that all known and some new frequency domain criteria applicable to different subclasses of SNSD systems may be derived as special cases. One of the latter involving q<0 is investigated to determine its significance and general applicability to SNSD systems. The aim of the research is to investigate how much the losses in a permanent-magnet synchronous machine (PMSM) increase by the test pulses that are injected for sensorless control, i.e., to obtain rotor position information without using a position sensor. The current responses to the voltage test pulses in the machine are used as input of a 2-D transient finite element model (FEM) of the PMSM, to compute the field distribution. The magnet losses are calculated by a 3-D FEM of one magnet and a part of the rotor yoke only. To find the iron losses in the SiFe part of the magnetic circuit, quasi-static and dynamic BH-loops were measured at various amplitudes by using an excitation winding and a measurement winding around the stator yoke of the PMSM. For field waveforms recorded in the 2-D FEM, the corresponding induction is calculated by a static Preisach model. The dynamic field is added based on the theory of loss separation. The test pulses cause minor hysteresis loops. Measurements and simulations show that losses due to the test pulses are usually small and have the same order of magnitude in the permanent magnets and the yoke. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper, the magnetic material characteristics, the normal magnetizing B-H curve and the loss parameters, are reconstructed for an asynchronous motor. The identification process is carried out using a coupled experimental-numerical inverse technique. Different inverse problems are formulated based on global and local magnetic measurements at no load condition. It is shown that a higher accuracy of identifying the normal magnetizing curve is obtained when local magnetic measurements are performed. In addition, loss parameters are recovered with an acceptable recovery error. The presented results are validated by comparison with the exact material characteristics. The presented results depict that the magnetic characteristics of the material inside a commercial asynchronous motor can be identified accurately by interpreting local magnetic measurements into a numerical model. © 2006 IEEE.

In switched reluctance motors, rotor position information can be extracted from the measurement of position-dependent phase voltage resonances. Due to hysteresis in the magnetic core of the machine, subsequently triggered resonances can exhibit different resonance waveforms, even when the rotor is held at a constant angular position. In order to analyze the influence of hysteresis, a finite-difference model of a magnetic lamination is coupled with a scalar Preisach model and with an electric circuit comprising an air gap and an equivalent capacitance associated with the converter, power cable and phase winding. A good correspondence is obtained between simulated and measured time-domain resonance waveforms. The model is used to predict the impact of hysteresis on the initial position estimation at start-up of the drive. © 2011 IEEE.
