The increased need for accurately modeling the input-output characteristics of linear time-periodic (LTP) systems necessitates novel identification and control algorithms as well as new test benches for their experimental validation. This paper introduces a simple-to-build test bench for the identification and control of LTP systems. We mechanically coupled the shafts of two DC motors and fed back the angular velocity to the second motor with a time-periodic modulation. This allowed us to imitate a time-periodic load for the first DC motor, thereby yielding an experimental LTP plant. We used Matlab/Simulink target hardware support to implement the entire software in Simulink, which greatly simplifies input design, data collection, and analysis as compared to embedded programming. We used constant-frequency sinusoidal signals for the data collection on the experimental test bench. Subsequently, we estimated the harmonic transfer functions and identified the parameters of a state-space model of the proposed LTP system. We then designed a time-periodic controller in order to regulate the output of the LTP system. We designed a reference-tracking controller along with a Linear Quadratic Integrator (LQI) to improve the system performance. We validated our results through experiments on the physical LTP system plant. © 2023 IEEE.

Space weather forecasting is of global interest, and its importance is well established in research community and recognized by government, industries and stockholders. Over the past years, many types of predictive models have been developed in the literature. There is a general agreement that forecasting models should not only provide point prediction but also inform the uncertainty associated with the prediction. This study presents a novel method bases on quantile regression and complex dynamic modelling for measuring uncertainties in space weather forecasting. The approach is implemented using Quantile regression and Nonlinear AutoRegressive Moving Average with Exogenous inputs (NARMAX) methods (for short the approach is called Q-NARMAX). The method is applied to Disturbance storm index (Dst) observations to examine its interpretability and capability for uncertainty analysis. Results show that the proposed Q-NARX model can produce excellent predictions of the Dst index, and meanwhile provides a measure for assessing the uncertainty in the forecast. The innovative integration of quantile regression, complex dynamic modelling and nonlinear system identification techniques enables the proposed work to have following attractive advantages and properties: 1) it can produce excellent prediction accuracy for space weather forecasting, 2) it uses transparent models to approximate (represent) black-box systems, enabling to interpret the dependent relationship between space weather indices (system outputs) and their drivers (system inputs), and 3) more importantly, it allows for uncertainty assessment and analysis of models and forecasts. © 2023 IEEE.

Projection-based integrators are effectively employed in high-precision systems with growing industrial success. By utilizing a projection operator, the resulting projection-based integrator keeps its input-output pair within a designated sector set, leading to unique freedom in control design that can be directly translated into performance benefits. This paper aims to enhance projection-based integrators by incorporating well-crafted linear filters directly into its structure, resulting in a new class of projected integrators that includes the earlier ones, such as the hybrid-integrator gain systems (HIGS), as special cases. The extra design freedom in the form of two filters in the input paths to the projection operator and the internal dynamics allows the controller to break away from the inherent limitations of a linear control design. The enhanced performance properties of the proposed structure are formally demonstrated through i) a describing function analysis, ii) mitigation of the gain-loss problem (occurring in, e.g., HIGS), and iii) numerical case studies showcasing improved time-domain properties. The describing function analysis is supported by rigorously showing incremental properties of the new filtered projection-based integrators, thereby guaranteeing the steady-state responses to be unique and asymptotically stable. © 2024 IEEE.

The paper is devoted to corrective agents dispensing control systems for thermal power plants, namely, hydrazine dispensing control system and phosphates dispensing control system. The systems mentioned are single-loop systems with PI-algorithms and they do not work efficiently enough now. Traditional variants of these system and their improvements earlier offered are described. Some new improvements, are offered and analyzed. They are prediction module using and control algorithm tuning parameters optimization. The prediction module uses the linear prediction algorithm. The transient processes and Nyquist curves for the control systems are given and analyzed. The quality indexes for the control systems are calculated. All the calculations are based on experimental data given in the papers already published. © 2024 IEEE.

The paper demonstrates the process of developing mathematical models for identifying breakdowns of electric motors using machine learning methods. The authors have developed three mathematical models for identifying breakdowns of electric drives with a power of 55 kW, 1500 rpm on the example of sugar production: model for quadratic discriminant analysis;binary classification decision tree;feedforward neural network model. The best structures and parameters of the models were determined by machine learning methods. The performance of the models on the training and test sets was more than 96% by F-score. It was proposed to use all three models independently for diagnosing breakdowns of electric drives, while the decision maker makes the final decision on the replacement or repair of electrical equipment. This approach is justified and effective because of the diversity of models. The developed models, except for assessing the state of the engine, can also be used for simulation modelling, forecasting, and serve as information support for process operators in organizing equipment maintenance. The availability of real-time information about the state of equipment in production will allow timely repair or replacement of equipment, thereby reducing the risks of stopping production and increasing the resource efficiency of technological processes. © 2023 IEEE.

In the last few decades, it has been observed that accidental patients are getting more severe injuries while handling the injured person due to spinal/neck injuries or not enough emergency support at the spot. Thus, we designed a portable device to support the human cranial and neural system in the neck region, which includes the top vertebral bones and major nerves. To avoid damaging the major nerve, emergency support staff must handle the unconscious individual with extreme caution after they have been hurt. If it is injured, the individual may experience compression, laceration, or contusion of the spinal cord, which may result in a coma, paralysis, or long-term repercussions on the neurological system. This article provides the solutions and discusses the challenges of implementing the GPS-based emergency cervical support system that is capable of activating an airbag in life-threatening circumstances. The system is developed with the help of various sensors and a digital controller. Explaining the design steps and the assembly arrangement will help the neck area be restrained and keep it as straight as possible. Hence, that saves the injured person from menacing injuries. © 2024 IEEE.

A significant disadvantage of classical operational amplifiers with a complementary 'folded' cascode is that in the dynamic overload mode of the input differential stage, the maximum output current of the 'folded' cascode is tightly coupled to the currents of the current-stabilizing bipoles that establish its static mode. This prevents (under the static current consumption limitations of the operational amplifier) a fast recharge of the integrating correction capacitor, which limits the maximum slew rate of the output voltage. The paper discusses new circuit solutions of CBJT operational amplifier based on complementary 'folded' cascodes and input differential stage of dual-input stage subclass to increase slew rate from 215 V/μs to 8000 V/μs level. The problem solved here is to provide higher levels of 'folded' cascode output current during the transient edge. This effect is achieved by introducing three additional small capacitance correction capacitors into the circuit. It is possible to introduce a special current limiting resistor in series with the third additional capacitor to reduce overshoot during the transient edge. The proposed modifications of operational amplifier have significant advantages in comparison with the classical ones based on complementary 'folded' cascodes in terms of slew rate level. Results of computer modeling of the operational amplifier in LTSpice environment for silicon CBJT technological process with micron topological norms are presented. © 2024 IEEE.

With the economic crisis that is looming over the world due to changes in the energy sector and a reduction in the supply of certain types of products, energy and resource efficiency issues are becoming more relevant for the food industry. Also important is the preservation of the environment and the implementation of Cleaner Production trends. Most enterprises follow the concept of Industry 4.0 and increase efficiency through the implementation of intelligent methods, in particular machine learning. The paper proposes a neural network model of sugar production. The model makes it possible to predict the main estimates of resource efficiency used to correct the technological modes of production by the operator-technologist. The structure of the operational decision support system has been developed and is used by personnel to model and predict changes in resource efficiency estimates and KPIs calculated on their basis. Its feature is the integration of methods for achieving resource efficiency, improving environmental performance and ensuring KPIs. To do this, at the initial stage, an analysis of the main flows that affect resource efficiency and an assessment of their importance was carried out. Ensuring Production Performance is confirmed by the simulation and the adequacy of the created neural network accuracy of more than 95%. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper considers computer modelling of a single-loop linear control system with an auto-tuning module. A short review of the modelling software is given, the advantages of SimInTech are shown. The modelling is carried out in SimInTech using the tool called the package of project, that contains several projects which have a common data base containing all the variables. The control system under consideration, the control plant identification method and the project of the package are described. The control plant model is the second order transfer function with a time delay, the control algorithm is PID. An example for testing the package is given and analysed. © 2024 IEEE.

This study addresses the effect of climate conditions on treatment effectiveness and energy consumption in a conventional Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). It has been observed that winter temperatures below 12°C produce a deterioration of pollutants elimination and energy efficiency in the activated sludge process (ASP). Then, in this work, variations of climatological conditions are considered, and ASP control parameters are modified, to evaluate their effect into the eco-efficiency of the WWTP operation. The eco-efficiency of the operation is analyzed from a plant-wide perspective considering the effects on different units of the plant. The Benchmark Simulation Model 2 (BSM2), that represents a typical WWTP, is selected for simulations. Introduction of seasonal temperature effects on ASP control strategy are contemplated for future work. © 2023 IEEE.
