In the modern world of today, technology means everything. It comes in many shapes and sizes: from tablets, smartphones, laptops, cars that drive themselves and flying drones. The world around us is becoming more and more interested in new inventions. With this, there is a growing need for innovations to help firefighters, doctors, automotive and people from other areas. The paper presents an alternative way of controlling a 4 DOF vehicle that can be used for educational purposes. The main characteristics of this vehicle is that the user draw the path on PC and the vehicle follow that path. © 2015 IEEE.

As the educational system is growing there is a lot of paperwork to do like completing different types of certificates, or traditional gradebook. The paper presents a different approach to facilitate and secure the writing of certificates or traditional gradebooks. This system uses a robot arm, RV-2AJ, which has a pen attached. The setups are easy to be made because they involve the reading of only three points for calibration which forms a right-angled triangle. After the calibration the robotic arm can write even if the writing surface is on an inclined plane, or the paper is rotated. This system is more secure than the one that uses the ink printer, because the movement of the robot arm to reproduce the font on the paper is unique. Another secure element is the embossing stamp. The embossing stamp is created by changing the pen with a needle. The needle creates small closed holes using a pattern in which the information used for writing is encrypted. © 2014 IEEE.

We study a typical intermediary task to Machine Translation, the alignment of NPs in the bitext. After arguing that the task remains relevant even in an end-to-end paradigm, we present simple, dictionary- and word vector-based baselines and a BERT-based system. Our results make clear that even state of the art systems relying on the best end-to-end methods can be improved by bringing in old-fashioned methods such as stopword removal, lemmatization, and dictionaries. © European Language Resources Association (ELRA), licensed under CC-BY-NC

This paper merges the advantages of data-driven control and sliding mode control in terms of applying and modifying two combinations of model-free adaptive control and sliding mode control suggested by Ebrahimi et al. in 2018 to the position control of tower crane systems. The modifications concern the classical definition of the control error or the tracking error and appropriate proofs are adapted and summarized. The two controllers are validated experimentally and compared in the control of the three positions specific to tower crane system laboratory equipment. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper is looking into the possibility of multimedia content distribution over multiple mobile platforms forming wireless peer - to - peer networks. State of the art mobile networks are centralized and base station or access point oriented. Current developments break ground for device to device communication. In this paper we will introduce a mobile application that runs on Symbian as well as iPhone/iPod devices and is able to exchange multimedia content in a point to multipoint fashion. The mobile application coined PictureViewer can convey pictures from one source device to many neighboring devices using a wireless 802.11 network together with network coding and user cooperation. The advantage of network coding in this context is that the source devices only need a minimal amount of knowledge about the sinks received packets and therefore only a minimal amount of feedback is needed to ensure reliable data delivery. © 2010 ACM.

Human space exploration was given a new boost by targeting again the Moon and the Mars. Besides the USA, China, India and Russia announced their progressive plans to put astronauts on orbit and beyond in the next decades. The continuous development of robotic technology should lead to the advancement of automated technology, including space medicine. Telesurgery has already proved its effectiveness through various procedures on Earth, and it has the potential to provide medical assistance in space. Space agencies have already conducted numerous experiments and developed various setups to push the boundaries of teleoperation. Different control schemes have been proposed and tested to facilitate and enhance telepresence and to ensure transparency, bandwidth and latency-tolerance. This paper focuses on the modelling of a generic telesurgery setup, supported by a cascade control approach. The minimalistic models were tested with classical and fuzzy PID control options to provide a simple, universal and scalable solution for the challenges of telesurgery over large distances. In our simulations, the control structures were capable of providing acceptable performance indices up to 2 seconds of roundtrip delay, which is a promising result towards the support of future teleoperational missions. This paper looks into the implementation details of random linear network coding on the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch mobile platforms for multimedia distribution. Previous implementations of network coding on this platform failed to achieve a throughput which is sufficient to saturate the WLAN interface. In addition to previous works we compare new implementations based on two different Galois fields: GF(28) and GF(2). Using the binary Galois field allows us to ensure high throughput and low computational requirements on mobile devices with limited resources. We have implemented this approach and achieved synthetic encoding/decoding throughput of up to 36/29 MB/s on a third generation iPod Touch 32GB which exceeds the results of other researchers by two orders of magnitude.

Intelligent image processing blurs the distinction between Guidance Vision for Robots (GVR) and Automated Visual Inspection (AVI) applications. The paper presents AI techniques for interactive learning of scene-object models by feature descriptions of part flows. Robot grippers are modelled by fingerprints for collisionfree part access. The parameters of the vision models are remotely created by a Server application which accepts simultaneous connections over LAN/Internet with multiple Clients - executing on IBM PC robot terminals integrated in flexible, networked manufacturing structures. Experimental results are reported for cluster and pattern construction for part recognition. Copyright © 2006 IFAC.

The paper presents a theoretical approach and implementing issue for automatic CNC toolpath generation using morphological image processing operators applied to dept. map images. This method allows computing cutter compensation for various end mill shapes. Roughing is made using zigzag cuts with a flat end mill, and finishing is done with isoparametric toolpaths using various rounded end mills. An AI-based algorithm and image processing software create CNC machining instructions from dept. map image models. The paper also describes a graphical user interface and includes experimental results.

One of the most important problems when considering the design of manufacturing systems based on SOA paradigms is the integration of shop floor activities in the business processes at enterprise level. This paper presents the design and implementation of a web service abstraction layer for holonic manufacturing systems that allow business process orchestration of customer order management module. It focuses on enhancements implemented for the NetLogo tool by adding both incoming and outgoing Web Services capabilities and discusses the technical solutions for this integration. An example is being provided for the integration and testing of a business process against the considered environment.
