Cost Analysis for Service-oriented Holonic Manufacturing System Design

This paper presents a formal methodology to perform a cost analysis for the customer order management (COM) process in the context of holonic manufacturing systems. The business process described in the paper, centred on COM, interconnects reference architecture with several enhancements that help in the mapping of the financial relevant activities. The process is analysed from two perspectives, first to show how the resource break-down rate in the HMES influences the overall profit and secondly to show the relationship between the percentage of products that fail the quality assurance test and the overall profit. The process was simulated using a BPM tool and the results are discussed.

This paper presents the implementation of synchronized multimedia streaming for the Apple iPhone platform. The idea is to stream multimedia content from a single source to multiple receivers with direct or multi-hop connections to the source. First we look into existing solutions for video streaming on the iPhone for point-to-point architectures. After acknowledging their limitations, we propose a solution based on network coding to efficiently and reliably deliver the multimedia content to many devices in a synchronized manner. Then we introduce an application that implements this technique on the iPhone. We also present our testbed which consists of 16 iPod Touch devices to showcase the capabilities of our application. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper a soft-starter model and its control strategy for connecting solutions to the grid of different operation modes for a wind turbine generator of 2/0.5 MW are evaluated. The thyristors switching for different functions of the firing angle are discussed. A complete simulation model of a constant speed wind turbine with cage rotor and double stator windings induction generator is also presented. The system model proposed in this paper is developed in the dedicated power system simulation tool DIgSILENT, which gives access to an extensive library, but requires implementation of the relevant wind turbine model. The model can be used to study alternative control strategies for wind turbines and additional equipments such as soft-starter, compensation units and storage systems. © 2010 IEEE.

There is an increasing need to support telemedicine with advanced technology. Currently, long distance telesurgical systems are only used on Earth for research purposes, but the military and the space agencies are interested in the spatial extension of effective surgical treatment through remote teleoperation. One of the major limitations of future systems is the communication lag time. In the case of the envisioned human exploratory space missions to Moon and Mars, the signal latency can be several seconds or even minutes. This paper deals with theoretical and practical aspects of the problem. Modeling approaches are discussed, proposing simplified human and machine representations to accommodate long distance telesurgical applications. Further, classical control methods are presented based on cascade control, focusing on teleoperation. A suitable controller can be designed with an empirical controller of the inner loop, based on Kessler methods, while the outer loop can be based on predictive control. © 2010 IEEE.

In this paper we present a novel rule-based, language independent method for determining lexical entailment relations using semantic representations built from Wiktionary definitions. Combined with a simple WordNet-based method our system achieves top scores on the English and Italian datasets of the Semeval-2020 task "Predicting Multilingual and Cross-lingual (graded) Lexical Entailment" (Glavaš et al., 2020). The aim of this paper is to present a control scheme for controlling the temperature in a slab which is not directly measurable. The process can only be controlled by manipulating the ambient temperature (boundary control). We describe the physical process and derive its (distributed) transfer function (DTF). The sensitivity of the model for one of the parameters is analyzed. We describe a model reduction technique which provides an accurate approximation of the distributed transfer function. Based on the reduced order model we present an Internal Model Control (IMC) scheme applied to the heat process and analyze the closed-loop. © 2009 EUCA.

The paper proposes a new global stability analysis method dedicated to fuzzy control systems containing Mamdani fuzzy controllers with dynamics to control SISO linear / linearized plants. The method is expressed in terms of relatively simple steps based on the generalization of the describing function method to the MIMO case and on the application of the least squares method to approximate the describing functions. The method is applied to the stability analysis of a class of PI-fuzzy controlled servo systems and validated by a case study. Copyright © 2005 IFAC.

The paper performs the sensitivity analysis with respect to the parametric variations of the controlled plant in the case of low cost fuzzy control systems dedicated to servo systems, with focus on solving the tracking control problem for a class of wheeled mobile robots with two degrees of freedom used in mining technologies. A new development method for Takagi-Sugeno PI-fuzzy controllers is proposed, based on applying the Extended Symmetrical Optimum method to the basic linear PI controllers in a cascaded control system structure. Besides the motion control issues and problems arising in general robotic applications, control engineers frequently encounter difficulties in designing robotic surgery systems due to the complex environmental constraints present. One of the most challenging problems is caused by the unique behavior of soft tissues under manipulations such as grabbing, cutting and indentation. The appropriate modeling of the interaction between the tools held by the robotic arm and tissues is essential for precise control, yet no generally applicable, universal model has been developed so far. This paper gives an overview of the existing tool-tissue interaction models and possible approaches to the parameterization problem, listing and reviewing several models found in the literature. We reviewed the problem within the frames of a theoretical master-slave teleoperation surgical robot, where exact mathematical model of the soft tissue is essential for effective control over a time-delayed communication channel. © 2014 IEEE.

The paper proposes a cost-effective Takagi-Sugeno state feedback fuzzy controller (T-S SFFC) meant for speed control of brushless direct current (BLDC) drives. The simplified process models of BLDC drives at several operating points are characterized by second-order linear dynamics with an integral component and variable parameters. The discrete-time dynamic Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy models of the process are derived by the modal equivalence principle to merge the discrete-time linear process models in the rule consequents. The parallel distributed compensation is applied to obtain the state feedback gain matrices in the rule consequents of the T-S SFFC which shares the same inference engine, defuzzification method and input membership functions with the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy models of the process. The T-S SFFC merges a set of separately pole placement-based designed local linear state feedback controllers in the rule consequents. A system of linear matrix inequalities is solved in the design of the T-S SFFC to guarantee the global stability of the fuzzy control system. © 2011 IEEE.
