The article deals with the design and implementation of a smart household based on simple wireless modules, which are monitoring (collecting data) and controlling smart household supporting devices. The central unit processes measured parameters, and in relation to resulting values, a pre-set action is performed. Those actions variety can be configured by user via the user interface so that a set of smart rules for reaction on by household devices generated stimuli or problems can be created. That all together composes a control system based on Raspberry Pi, which manages indoor and outdoor temperature measurement, the lighting control, RF transmitter, jalousie, motion sensor control etc. There is a GUI for a PC and for a mobile phone as a part of that system. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2017.

We investigate different schemes for data dissemination in multi-hop ad-hoc networks using network coding. We study the performance of these schemes in terms of the completion time when a set of data packets must be disseminated from a single source to all nodes in a multi-hop network, i.e. a network where at least one node is several hops away from the source. Therefore some network nodes must relay information to other nodes that are farther away from the source. In this setting, a relay node does not send a particular data packet, but a linear combination of the packets that it has previously received. The selection of such relays has a significant impact on performance. We present a graphical simulator based on OpenGL that allows to study performance and illustrate the status of network nodes in real time during the dissemination of an image file. Features of real-life ad-hoc networks such as packet losses and collisions are taken into consideration in our simulator. Numerical results are presented for simple linear meshed networks and for arbitrary topologies. Results indicate that schemes promoting parallel non-interfering transmissions complete the dissemination process faster. ©2010 IEEE.

The mathematical models of the greenhouse environment are MIMO systems, characterized by a high coupling, nonlinearity, parameter variation and they are highly influenced by disturbances. This paper uses a well-known greenhouse climate model with measurable external disturbances and a feedback-feedforward linearization, decoupling and disturbance compensations technique. Greenhouse climate model parameters/disturbances, which are susceptible to wrong estimation, are identified, i.e., heat transfer coefficient (UA), shading and leaf area index coefficient (a), and intercepted solar radiant energy (Si). The system response, in the case of nominal model and considering different levels of model uncertainty, are compared. Significant quality indicator degradations for setpoint step responses leads to reconsider the control structure using two degree of freedom (2DoF) PID controllers. Four 2DoF PI/PID tuning technique are compared at nominal condition and under parameter variations showing good performance.

Course material of basic control theory has been overviewed and updated recently at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and informatics, BME. In the theoretical material the concept of the Youla parametrization has been introduced which gives a new insight into controller design. MATLAB exercises support understanding and interactively applying the theoretical knowledge. New lecture notes were written both for the theoretical material and for the MATLAB laboratory exercises. The Intelligent Product concept has been proposed almost a decade ago, gaining considerable traction in manufacturing enterprises as it helps aligning the information flow with the material flow even in the simplest implementations. In advanced applications it can provide support for executing complex algorithms allowing local decision making upon collective reasoning or individual and autonomous selection of the manufacturing operations. In the context of service-oriented manufacturing systems there are new requirements for intelligent products, such as standards adoption and SOA capabilities. This paper proposes a classification of intelligent products from a SOA integration point of view and introduces a formalized data structure for intelligent products in the form of a XSD schema for XML representation. The data flow during manufacturing is discussed in the context of lead time and lag time between operations in the product recipe with the goal to enable ETA estimation of the product and the product batch. An example is presented for assembly of an Hshaped product, focusing on representation of operation dependencies and lag time in XML format proposed. © 2013 IFAC.

The paper deals with applicative aspects concerning the control of speed and position of a BLDC servo system with low but Variable in a given range Moment of Inertia (VMI). Detailed models of various applications, some control solutions are discussed and developed and part of them tested on the basis of the specific features of the plants with VMI. The adopted control solutions PI(D) control (as reference solution) and fuzzy control with homogenous and non-homogenous dynamics are briefly presented and some approaches regarding the methods are highlighted. Due to the applicability of the methods in the field of mechatronics applications with VMI (speed and positioning control of rapid plants), the presented aspects are of permanent actuality, and they offer directions of future research. © 2011 Scientific Assoc Infocomm.

This paper presents human-robot communication for a monitoring support system in an Intelligent Space. An Intelligent Space (iSpace) is a space in which many intelligent devices are installed to observe the user's environment. In this paper, we apply the iSpace observation function to a monitoring system used for maintaining the safety of elderly persons receiving home-care support. In addition, we use a mobile robot as a tool to deliver monitoring results to care assistants. We focus on an ethological approach for designing robot behaviors for human-robot communication. The implementation of these robot behaviors based on an ethological approach, and the results of an experiment conducted to evaluate these behaviors, are then presented. © 2012 IFAC.

This paper develops a control system for an Integrated Starter Alternator (ISA) used in hybrid electric vehicles. ISA employs a permanent magnet synchronous machine with voltage source inverter, using field oriented vector control with torque reference. The motor / generator mode is given by the torque reference selecting with a switch an external torque (for motor mode) or a torque delivered by a dc voltage loop to charge the battery (for generator mode). The internal combustion engine is simulated by a DC motor with speed control, and the battery is managed by using the ISA active power. The simulation results, based on real scenarios, prove the ability of the proposed ISA control system to work in motor and generator modes with smooth transition between them. The scenarios include the motor mode with starting and added demanded mechanical torque, and the generator mode to charge the battery up to 42 V, with good dynamic responses.

The paper presents a study on the behavior of some positioning control solutions for an electric drive system evolving in conditions of reference and parameter variability. The main variable parameter of the process is the moment of inertia in the context of a system that corresponds to laboratory equipment. The main advantages of the laboratory equipment are the possibility of adjusting the dynamic parameters and the ability to insert and remove the non-ideal properties in a controlled manner. Using a detailed mathematical model of the process and the particular features of the drive system, the paper proposes three control solutions. The developed position controllers are: (1) a classical PID controller, (2) a two-degree-of-freedom controller (2DOF) and (3) a Takagi-Sugeno PD+I fuzzy controller (TS-PD+I-FC). The proposed control solutions are validated by means of experiments on laboratory equipment and have a large applicability in the field of mechatronic systems, where such applications with variable inertia and control system inputs are always present.
