In this paper, we present a fuzzy singularly perturbed model (FSPM) for the dynamics of a flexible-link manipulator. We extend the Takagi-Sugeno model to approximate the dynamics of the flexible-link manipulator by softly merging locally linear singularly perturbed models using membership functions. Based on the FSPM, a mixed H2/H∞ optimal and robust controller is developed for a flexible-link manipulator to achieve the suboptimal H2 control performance with a desired H∞ disturbance rejection constraint. Finally, an application example for a single-link manipulator shows the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed control approach. © 2006 IEEE.

Recently issues about cyber-war have gained relevant attention, especially because of gravity of damages that could be caused by cyber attacks to strategic targets, mining security of citizens. Examples of targets might include national civil and military airports, command and control systems of civil and military transportation means electronic military systems for national defense, national infrastructures for water and electricity distribution, industries and also hospitals or firefighters informatics systems. The risk of cyber attacks for the mentioned systems and infrastructures has grown because of the introduction of general-purpose and open (not proprietary)communication protocols, widely interconnecting systems and services. With this regard, it is of great importance the problem of evaluating the impact that cyber attacks could generate and to select effective countermeasures to protect military and civil heterogeneous and interconnected systems. In this paper the Mixed Holistic Reductionist (MHR) model is proposed as a conceptual methodology to evaluate the impact of a set of cyber attacks to military and civil infrastructures of strategic interest. The reductionist approach allows modeling of heterogeneous systems using the simplest elements and then coming to assess the interaction of basic components. The holistic paradigm instead allows to analyze complex systems by evaluating their behavior in complex and thus as a monolithic unit. This model allows combining the holistic method with the reductionist, trying to maintain the benefits of both paradigms. The two methods are linked together through an additional layer which is an intermediate level of abstraction, usually represented by the services of any infrastructure. Services are defined as logical objects, in order to obtain useful functionality to the customer, or other infrastructure. In this paper, we develop a method for detecting infant emotion from images using machine learning techniques. It is important to develop automatic infant emotion detection algorithms as they can become part of an integrated system that monitors the well-being of infants at home and in institutional settings. In particular, we develop an ensemble classifier that combines the results from diverse individual classifiers to produce better classification results. We present a novel method for selecting members of the ensemble that is based on the Pearson correlation coefficient of the location of the errors in the classifiers. The results show that the ensemble classifier outperforms individual classifiers by at least 1.4 times, and outperforms a state-of-the-art open-source algorithm for adult emotion detection by a larger margin. The results also indicate that Pearson Correlation among classifiers at a certain number of classifier count is a good criterion for selecting ensemble members. ©2020 Society for Modeling & Simulation (SCS) International

The method of detection and localization of design errors in HDL-models of finite state machines with arbitrary output functions was proposed. The diagnostic experiment is carried out bypassing all arcs of the Mealy machine, starting from the initial vertex, including for machines of the "nonexclusive" class. To ensure the return of the machine with a possible design error in the initial state, it is suggested to use synchronizing sequences. Diagnostic experiments were performed in the Active-HDL design environment. © 2019 IEEE

In this paper is described possibility of nondestructive diagnostics of solid objects by software analysis of vibration spectrum. With using platform MATLAB, we can process and evaluate information from accelerometer, which is placed on the measured object The analog signal is digitized by special I/O device dSAPCE CP-1104 and then processed offline with FFT (Fast Fourier Transform). The power spectrum is then examined by developed evaluating procedures and individual results are displayed in bar graph. When we take a look on results, there is an evidently correlation between spectrum and examining object (inner defects). © 2010 IEEE.

The advent of smart manufacturing in Industry 4.0 signifies the arrival of the era of connections. As an excellent communication protocol, Object linking and embedding for Process Control Unified Architecture (OPC UA) can address most semantic heterogeneity issues. However, its semantics are not formally defined at the application layer. To address the information silo problem caused by semantic heterogeneity, a method named Querying of Ontology Mapping-based OPC UA (QOMOU) is proposed. It extracts the information models of OPC UA servers into resource description framework triples, utilizes web ontology language for semantic enrichment and inference, and employs a semantic similarity model for event ontology mapping to improve query efficiency. The method's effectiveness is validated through functional queries using the SPARQL protocol in Apache Jena. The query efficiency is 5% higher on average compared to both structured query and extensible markup languages. Moreover, by employing a keyword-matching algorithm, the query accuracy of the existing heterogeneous data integration scheme is improved by 4% on average. This enhancement can boost the operational efficiency of Internet of Things systems based on the OPC UA architecture. © 2024 IEEE.

Water quality prediction methods forecast the future short or long-term trends of its changes, providing proactive advice for water pollution prevention and control. Existing water quality prediction methods only consider the historical data of single-type or multi-type water quality. However, meteorology and other factors also have a significant impact on water quality indicators. Therefore, only considering the historical data of water quality is not feasible. Unlike existing studies, this work proposes a hybrid water quality prediction model called CMI to solve the above problem. Before prediction, CMI incorporates a multimodal fusion mechanism of water quality time series and remote sensing images of meteorological rainfall. Moreover, CMI integrates the model of ConvNeXt V2 and a multimodal bottleneck transformer to extract image features for fusing the time series and images. Furthermore, it utilizes an emerging model of iTransformer to realize prediction with the fused features. Experimental results with real-life water quality time series and remotely sensed rainfall images demonstrate that CMI outperforms other state-of-the-art fusion algorithms, and the water quality prediction accuracy with fused meteorological data is 13% higher on average than that with only water quality time series. © 2024 IEEE.

Diesel-electric locomotives are equipped with one or more synchronous generators driven by diesel engines, that provide the necessary electrical energy for their operation. These generators are usually provided with some protection relays, depending on their rated power and their type of service. Standard stator-ground fault protection has a setting for rated conditions. In case of variable speed and voltage operation, the protection does not cover all the operation range of the machine. In addition, unwanted tripping may occur due to incorrect filtering of the third harmonic. In this paper, an auto-adaptative stator ground protection function is presented, for the operation of synchronous machines at variable voltage and frequency. A specific case study is tackled, focused on the main generators of a diesel-electric locomotive. Numerous simulations are carried out to verify the proposed protection method. The obtained results are promising, and they can be used in other synchronous machines operating at variable speed. © 2023 IEEE.

Users of database applications, especially in the e-commerce domain, often resort to exploratory "trial-and-error" queries since the underlying data space is huge and unfamiliar, and there are several alternatives for search attributes in this space. For example, scouting for cheap airfares typically involves posing multiple queries, varying flight times, dates, and airport locations. Exploratory queries are problematic from the perspective of both the user and the server. For the database server, it results in a drastic reduction in effective throughput since much of the processing is duplicated in each successive query. For the client, it results in a marked increase in response times, especially when accessing the service through wireless channels. In this paper, we investigate the design of automated techniques to minimize the need for repetitive exploratory queries. Specifically, we present SAUNA, a serverside query relaxation algorithm that, given the user’s initial range query and a desired cardinality for the answer set, produces a relaxed query that is expected to contain the required number of *** algorithm incorporates a range-queryspecific distance metric that is weighted to produce relaxed queries of a desired shape (e.g., aspect ratio preserving), and utilizes multi-dimensional histograms for query size *** performance evaluation of SAUNAover a variety of multi-dimensional data sets indicates that its relaxed queries can significantly reduce the costs associated with exploratory query processing. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.

Automatic and objective body condition scoring of dairy cow has aroused great researches as a method to assist management of nutritional programs in dairy herds. This study presents a 3-dimensional surface fitting approach that provides a structure description of dairy cow's body for BCS estimation. a 3-dimensional algorithm that provides a topographical understanding of the cow's body to estimate BCS. In this study, the hypothesis tested was that the body contour of a fatter dairy cow is plumper than that of a thin dairy cow and, therefore, may better fit a paraboloid surface. dept. image processing and fitting model were investigated and consisted of three stages: (1) object location and separation of individual cow;(2) image surface fitting;and (3) parameters determination in body condition scoring (BCS) model. Compared with the previous studies, the novelty in this paper was completing the full-automation of a BCS system. The proposed model was trained and tested with the BCS value obtained manually. Pearson correlation between the proposed BCS and the manual BCS was 0.84 for the test data set. © 2019 IEEE.
